Tasting Notes: Inquieto, which translates to “restless”, is a testament to the efforts made in its production. This is a wine that is nuanced in aromas of tree bark, black berry, olives and tarragon. On the palate, the wine has a mirroring note of dark berry and herbal qualities but is still well balanced with subtle tannins and a glimmer of acidity.
Estate History: Salvatore Giardina is well known in his town of Randazzo, Sicily, as the owner of one of the best wine bars and restaurants in the area named Vitis Vineria. Salvatore’s relationship with wine led him to work with the Etna winegrowers at Masseria del Pino and begin production of his own label. The bottling of Masseria Case Rosse is driven by the admiration of what they call “peasant techniques”. A way of growing wine that avoids any invasive workings outside of manual labor. This is only the second vintage of this wine imported into the USA. The production is minuscule with only 800 bottles produced, from 70 to 75 -yearold Nerello Mascalese vines.
