Just over three weeks ago, the owner (Roy) picked up his Ferrari 488 Pista at Graypaul Birmingham. He is one of the few ones who received an allocation for the car, but does it all live up to the hype?

March 2018: Ferrari posted pictures of the Ferrari 488 Pista on their various online platforms and hell broke loose. It was unclear how many were going to be produced and what you had to do to become eligible for an allocation.
One thing was certain: the demand turned out to be very high. We received tons of direct messages on Instagram in regard to the 488 Pista, so it’s great to have been part of some order procedures. After a few weeks, I flew to Geneva to see the car in real life.
Carbon never hurt anyone
This Ferrari 488 Pista shoot is the first of many I have planned for the upcoming week. Roy and I met outside of Central London and one of his friends joined in a Porsche 911 Turbo S as back-up car to take some rolling pictures too.
I jumped in the Pista with Roy and I immediately noticed how loud the car actually is. Though you don’t have the high pitching naturally aspirated V8, this award-winning turbocharged engine sings a beautiful song too. It’s like an angry grumble. Though it’s a track focused car, the ride is very smooth. We drove in sport mode and it felt really comfortable. Another random aspect I noticed are the lightweight doors. They have to be, but aren’t as heavy as the ones in the 458 Speciale.
Let’s take a look at the car’s configuration first. Roy went for a pretty exciting spec in my mind: Rosso Corsa with a Nero Daytona striping and satin black wheels. The interior is black alacantara with some red details such as the seatbelt and leather striping on the seats.
Now, let’s talk about carbon, because literally every box was ticked, from the engine bay and the front-splitter to the rear-diffuser, the side air-intake and parts in the interior. The only part that’s missing are the carbon wheels. Ferrari suffered from a lot of supplying issues with those specific wheels. The demand appeared way too high compared to initial estimates. But don’t worry, Roy ordered and paid for them, so they’re coming!
Verdict
Yes, the Ferrari 488 Pista is really THAT good. The turbocharged engine sounds great and it’s a thoroughbred track car when you need it. I assume this would also suit as an excellent road trip car. As mentioned before, the car is just a couple of weeks old. Roy was so excited for the car he postponed a paint protection film. Once the car is fully protected and has the carbon wheels, Roy is planning to take it where it belongs: the race track.
