While signs pointed toward Michael Conforto opting out of his contract with the San Francisco Giants, the outfielder will remain in orange in black for another season.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, Conforto has opted into the final year of his two-year, $36 million contract and will return to the Giants in 2024.

Conforto, 30, appeared to be a candidate for a longer deal in free agency–especially with super-agent Scott Boras representing the 2017 All-Star–but instead, the Seattle native will be returning to San Francisco.

The left-handed outfielder will make $18 million during the 2024 season and is currently in line to hold the team’s second-highest salary on Opening Day (Mitch Haniger, $19 million).

With Conforto back in the fold, it will be interesting to see if Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi looks to move Mike Yastrzemski, who will turn 34 years old next season and is in line to make around $7 million in 2024.

About SF Giants OF Michael Conforto

Conforto, 30, inked a two-year contract with the Giants in January after taking the 2022 season off to rehab a shoulder injury.

In his first season in San Francisco, Conforto holds a .245 batting average to go along with 15 home runs and 58 RBI over 121 appearances. During his time with the Giants, the 2017 NL All-Star has logged time in left field, right field, and designated hitter.

Considering that Conforto is a client of super-agent Scott Boras, it’s fair to expect that the outfielder will take his time as he goes through the free agent process in his final chance at securing a big payday.

When healthy, Conforto is a left-handed bat with pop and a decent eye in the batter’s box (52 walks in 2023) who can play a solid left field.
