“I actually find most Nike shoes quite consistent when it comes to sizing! ”
Adam, Head of Breaking News at The Sole Supplier
I have wide feet so I need to go half a size up for the Nike Air Max 97, for those with regular-width feet, I definitely recommend going true to size!
I actually find most Nike shoes quite consistent when it comes to sizing! The Air Max 90 is slightly narrower at the front than the 97, but again, my wide feet mean I need to go half a size up.
I think the streamlined silhouette calls for modern fits, so I’ll wear these with cargo trousers or some slim-fit joggers.
The 97s are really easy to keep clean! I just go at them with a wipe or, if they get really dirty, I use a toothbrush and some water. Maybe some washing up liquid if I’m feeling fancy.
The long Air unit underfoot means these sneakers are really, really comfortable.
No question, the Sean Wotherspoon Nike Air Max 97s! Always.
“I love wearing these with tea dresses, cycling shorts and a baggy tee or my favourite gym fit! ”
Paige, Writer for The Sole Womens
I always go true to size with these sneaks. I find that they do need a little breaking in, but once that’s done, they fit like a glove!
I find that Nike Air Max 90s fit slightly smaller as they’re a little tighter at the front. I can still go true to size with the 90s, but they do give me less room than my TTS Air Max 97s.
I love wearing these with tea dresses, cycling shorts and a baggy tee or my favourite gym fit! They’re so versatile and I love mixing their sporty aesthetic with something quite girly. Lily Allen vibes.
I’m actually not to mad at how these look when they’re a little worn in! I’ll remove any big marks with a simple wipe, but I don’t really go in with a deep clean.
They’re a little rigid at first but after a couple of wears they’re really comfortable. The Air unit sees to that!
I will always go for triple white Nike Air Max 97s – they go with everything and they’re pretty much always in stock, so I can cop a new pair when mine are done for!
“Whenever I’m getting Nike Air Max 97, I cop my usual size. ”
Chris, Head of PR and Releases at The Sole Supplier
Whenever I’m getting Nike Air Max 97, I cop my usual size.
Both the AM90 and AM97 run true to size, but the 90 is a little more flexible thanks to the mesh upper so they’re a little easier to break in! The AM97 are slightly more rigid but once they’re broken in, they’re perfect.
I always wear my Nike Air Max 97s with some relaxed joggers and a tee or jumper. I think the sporty style of these sneakers works best with sporty garms.
I don’t. Anyone who knows me knows that I love my sneakers to look a little bit beaten up, so I’ll do everything I can to avoid cleaning them!
Once broken in, the Nike Air Max 97 is so comfortable! I’ve worn them on city breaks, walking 15,000 steps a day and not had any problems.
I love the Undefeated x Nike Air Max 97! Simple, effective and timeless.
“I like my sneakers to have a little more room so I can wear thick socks.”
Miles, Restocks & Groups Manager for The Sole Supplier
I like my sneakers to have a little more room so I can wear thick socks in the winter, so I go half a size up with my Nike Air Max 97. True to size would work for me, but I like more room.
Similarly to the AM97, I go half a size up with the Nike Air Max 90 so that I can be a little more comfortable.
I practically live in cargo trousers or jeans, so I’ll always pair my Nike Air Max 97 with whichever of those two I’m wearing that day!
I like to keep my sneakers looking really fresh, so when my Air Max 97s get grubby, I’ll use a specialist solution and shoe cleaning brush. I always put their original tissue paper back inside after wearing them so that they keep their shape.
They’re not that comfortable the first couple of wears as they can be a little stiff, but once they’re broken in, they’re perfect!
The OFF-WHITE x Nike Air Max 97 is my favourite pair, but I also have a soft spot for the iconic ‘Silver Bullet’ colourway!
The Nike Air Max 97: What You Need To Know
Inspired by nature, mechanics and everything that combines the two, the Nike Air Max 97 was designed way back in 1997 by the legendary Christian Tresser. Streamlined, sporty and way ahead of its time, this sneaker made waves when it debuted and consumers didn’t quite know what to make of its metallic finish and completely exposed Air pocket. In terms of functionality, this sneaker was unlike any other on the market; it utilised Nike’s most forward-thinking technology and delivered bounce, comfort and stability.
Boasting a number of high-profile collaborations – like OFF-WHITE, Undefeated and Skepta – this legendary silhouette has firmly secured its place in the sneaker hall of fame.
