Western Bulldogs premiership hero Tom Boyd has been diagnosed with clinical depression.

The club today announced Boyd would take a leave of absence to receive treatment.

The Dogs say the 21-year-old has managed the illness for “an extended period” and would continue to work with the club’s medical staff.

No date has been set on Boyd’s return to football, though he has expressed a desire to return to the field as soon as possible.
