Municipality of Acuto

.We publish the speech by Augusto Agostini, Mayor of Acuto, in Lazio, where the free hotspots have been activated and in addition to the Municipalities that have joined the WiFi Italia Project.

The municipal territory extends over an articulated area, on Mount Acuto, of the chain of the Ernici Mountains in defense of the Sacco valley. Leaving the road that goes from Anagni towards Fiuggi, you go up towards the ancient village, turning the hairpin bends of the mountain you can see the plots of land planted with olive trees and grapes. From this territory we obtain an excellent oil and the famous Cesanese del Piglio wine. If, on the other hand, you stay in Fiuggi for the spa, you can reach Acuto along a short road, just six kilometers long, immersed in the green of the mountain. Once you reach the medieval village you can admire the historic center and, looking out on one of the many terraces of the village, admire the landscape of the valley and, behind it, the peaks of the highest mountains.

Acuto was founded in the 5th century by the inhabitants of Anagni who fled an invasion, but findings have shown that a small town already existed before its foundation. The first more accurate sources are dated 1051 and cite a stronghold located near Anagni, the Castrum Acuti. The fortress was dominated by various local lords and by the bishops of Anagni in alternation, until the end of the fourteenth century. From the 15th century onwards, Acuto became increasingly linked to Anagni (in fact, the inhabitants of Acuto were also given the citizenship of Anagni in 1478) and consequently to the papacy.

In 1557 Spain declared war on the Pope, and so Anagni, together with other centers of the Campagna, was attacked by Marcantonio Colonna, at the head of an army of Spanish soldiers who destroyed Frosinone. From 1809 to 1814 Acuto was, like the rest of the region, under French rule. The municipality then returned to the pope, but from 1815 to 1825 it was tormented by banditry. In 1870, following the end of temporal power and the conquest of Rome, the municipality passed to the Kingdom of Italy.

The Piazza Wifi Italia Project achieves one of the objectives that our administration has set itself: to offer our fellow citizens, in this case with technology, increasingly effective services. This is why we have decided to be part of the public network that Mise and Infratel Italia have created. "
