Alvida, also known as "Iron Mace" Alvida, is a character in the One Piece series created by Eiichiro Oda. She is introduced as the former captain of the Alvida Pirates and serves as one of the initial adversaries encountered by the protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy after he sets sail.

Alvida’s History

Alvida, a formidable pirate, assembled her own crew and unleashed terror upon the East Blue for a span of two years. During this time, a young boy named Koby accidentally found himself aboard her ship, the Miss Love Duck. Upon discovering Koby's extensive seafaring knowledge, Alvida coerced him into becoming her cabin boy, subjecting him to constant threats and physical abuse, ensuring his compliance.

After approximately two years of forcibly recruiting Koby, Alvida's path unexpectedly crossed with Monkey D. Luffy, a novice pirate whom her subordinates inadvertently saved from a treacherous whirlpool. Luffy, caring little for Alvida's reputation or strength, fearlessly defied her and her vanity. In doing so, he reignited Koby's courage and rekindled his long-held dream of joining the Marines.

Witnessing Koby aligning himself with Luffy's defiance, Alvida erupted in a fit of rage. However, to her astonishment, as well as Koby's, Luffy's rubbery physique effortlessly absorbed her most powerful blow. Before Alvida could regain her composure, Luffy swiftly rendered her unconscious with a devastating attack known as Gomu Gomu no Pistol.

Buggy's Crew Adventure Chronicles

Following her resounding defeat, Alvida seemingly abandoned her crew and embarked on a personal quest to track down Luffy. Along her journey, she fortuitously consumed the Sube Sube no Mi, a Devil Fruit that bestowed upon her the ability to make her body incredibly slippery. As a side effect, she underwent a stunning transformation, becoming slender and exquisitely beautiful.

During her travels, Alvida stumbled upon the diminutive and defeated pirate known as Buggy, whom she valiantly rescued from the clutches of a gargantuan crab. Sharing a common goal of locating Luffy, the two formed an alliance. Together, they orchestrated the reunion of the fragmented Buggy Pirates, vanquished the cannibalistic Kumate Tribe that had threatened to devour the crew, and successfully reclaimed the sections of Buggy's body that had been confiscated and tied up by the cunning Nami.

Loguetown Arc

Upon reaching Loguetown, Alvida orchestrated a surprising encounter with Luffy, who was absorbed in contemplating the execution scaffold where the legendary Gol D. Roger had met his demise. In a collaboration with Buggy, she assisted in an audacious attempt to execute Luffy, which, unfortunately for them, ended in failure. It was during this confrontation that Alvida unveiled her metamorphosis into a resplendent and captivating woman. In an unexpected twist, she confessed her admiration for Luffy, being the first man brave enough to strike her, and expressed her affection for him.

As Alvida and Cabaji observed Buggy's subsequent endeavor to carry out Luffy's execution, they reluctantly acknowledged their disappointment, believing that Luffy would be unable to escape his predicament. However, their hopes were shattered by a stroke of fortune when a bolt of lightning struck Buggy, ultimately saving Luffy from his imminent demise. Alvida and Buggy, determined to pursue their elusive target, endeavored to give chase. Unfortunately, their efforts were thwarted as they, along with the rest of their crew, were apprehended by the Marine officer Smoker and confined within a Seastone Net. Miraculously, they managed to escape captivity, setting their sights on the Grand Line, where they would continue their pursuit of Luffy.

Jaya Arc

Alvida made the decision to remain with the Buggy Pirates, as her own crew was nowhere to be found. The crew encountered a cave that Buggy mistakenly believed held Captain John's treasure, only to discover it was occupied by diggers. Alvida voiced her dissatisfaction with the crew's rowdy celebrations aboard the Big Top and expressed frustration over their inability to locate Luffy.

During this time, Portgas D. Ace appeared and offered his assistance, helping himself to their food. Buggy expressed his concerns about crossing paths with a member of the Whitebeard Pirates, impressing Alvida with his knowledge of Whitebeard.

Amazon Lily Arc

At a later point, Buggy, mistaking a Marine garrison for yet another treasure-filled cave, was captured and taken to Impel Down.

Impel Down Arc

Obtaining an Eternal Pose, the alliance between Buggy and Alvida set sail for the Calm Belt near Impel Down. While spotted by a Marine, their Jolly Roger went unrecognized, allowing Vice Admiral Momonga to dismiss them due to their busy schedule.

Encountering a Sea King in the Calm Belt, the Buggy Pirates pleaded with Alvida to assist them in rescuing Buggy. However, Alvida threatened to keep the ship for herself and insisted that anyone who wished to rescue Buggy would have to take a lifeboat.

Convinced that their rescue attempt would prove futile, the crew ultimately accepted Alvida's judgment, apologized to their imprisoned captain, and sailed away. Though it remains unknown whether the crew officially recognized Alvida as their new captain, they respected her decisions and looked to her for guidance.

Post-War Arc

On an island in the Grand Line, the Buggy and Alvida Alliance eventually reunited with Buggy. When other crew members claimed they had never given up on Buggy, Alvida pointed out their abandonment following his imprisonment in Impel Down.

She also recognized several prisoners from their wanted posters. Buggy then revealed to Alvida the newly acquired treasure mark of Captain John, leaving her astonished and pondering how he obtained it.

Post-Timeskip

Following Buggy's induction as one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Alvida currently remains allied with Buggy's Pirate Dispatch Company.

At Karai Bari Island, during a feast with Buggy, Mohji, Richie, Cabaji, and Galdino, they celebrated the downfall of Donquixote Doflamingo and the positive impact it had on their business. Mohji informed them that Hajrudin and his crew had left the dispatch company to join the Straw Hat Pirates. Alvida sat behind Buggy, continuing to support his endeavors and remain by his side.

Wano Country Arc

Following the abolition of the Seven Warlords of the Sea system, Alvida and the crew on Karai Bari Island find themselves confronted by a fleet of Marines led by Stainless. However, the situation takes an unexpected turn when Crocodile arrives with his own forces, aiming to destroy the Marine ships and recruit Buggy and his crew into his newly formed organization, the Cross Guild.

Alvida’s Personality

Alvida possesses a deep-rooted belief in her own exceptional beauty, even during a time when her appearance was more neglected and rotund. Anyone who dared to disagree with her self-proclaimed beauty would face the wrath of her iron mace, as she had no tolerance for dissent.

She harbors a strong aversion to noise and uncleanliness, preferring a clean and orderly environment. Alvida is not one to willingly put herself in perilous situations against overwhelming odds, and she can be quite intimidating to men, especially her subordinates. When it comes to protecting her own interests, she is resolute and unyielding, unafraid to assert her authority. In moments of conflict, her cruelty can manifest prominently.

With a distaste for filth and laziness, Alvida imposes the task of cleaning the entire deck of her ship on her crew. Even the slightest hint of dust is met with a punishing strike from her club.

Prior to consuming the Sube Sube no Mi, people would flatteringly claim that she was the most beautiful woman in the world solely to avoid being on the receiving end of her iron mace. However, after eating the Devil Fruit, their compliments became genuine, as her newfound beauty became undeniable, even though other women like Boa Hancock and the Mermaid Princess have also been hailed as the world's most beautiful. In addition to the physical transformation, her personality underwent a change as well. She now speaks in softer tones and exhibits slightly less inclined to strike her crew with her iron mace, although their infatuation with her appearance often renders them indifferent to the blows they receive.

Alvida's complex character is marked by her unwavering confidence in her beauty, her demand for cleanliness, her reluctance to engage in unwinnable battles, and her willingness to exert her authority, even if it means resorting to cruelty.

Alvida’s Appearance

Initially, Alvida was depicted as a tall and excessively overweight woman. She had long wavy black hair and freckles on her cheeks. Her attire consisted of a white cowgirl hat adorned with a large red plume, a red neckerchief, a pink plaid shirt, and a blue captain's coat, which she wore with her arms in the sleeves, distinguishing her from other pirates. Alvida adorned her fingers with rings, and her long, sharp fingernails were painted in red polish. She wore a purple sash with a flintlock pistol tucked into it, along with various jewels. Her clothing also included graying pants and red shoes with gold buckles.

However, after consuming the Sube Sube no Mi, Alvida underwent a dramatic transformation. The Devil Fruit's powers caused her to shed the excess weight from her body. As a result, Alvida's appearance changed drastically. She became slim, well-endowed, and retained her long black hair, although her eyes changed from brown to dark green. Her outfit also underwent a significant transformation. She now wore a pearl necklace, a bikini top, and tight Capri-length pants.

Occasionally, she draped a purple coat over her shoulders. Alvida opted for sandals or slip-off shoes, allowing her to utilize her slippery abilities with the soles of her feet. She continued to wear lipstick and nail polish, albeit with shorter nails. Additionally, her toenails were shown to be painted, a detail that was not visible before due to her footwear. During her appearance in Loguetown, she also sported a cape-like pink cloak adorned with red hearts.

Alvida's new appearance had a profound effect on those who laid eyes upon her, regardless of gender. Similar to Boa Hancock, people would often fall in love with her upon seeing her, defying her former delusion or denial about her past appearance. Alvida humorously attributed the only change in her appearance after consuming the Devil Fruit to the disappearance of her freckles.

Following the time skip, Alvida replaced her original cowboy hat with a red-and-white top hat and continued to wear her distinctive capri pink pants, showcasing her updated style.

Alvida’s Abilities

Initially, Alvida possessed only moderate strength and power compared to other pirates in East Blue. While she was capable enough to captain her own crew and had a minor bounty, her abilities were swiftly overshadowed when she encountered Luffy. In their confrontation, Luffy's rubber body rendered her attacks ineffective, and she was easily defeated, being knocked unconscious with just one blow. Her mace strike, intended to cause harm, had no impact due to the angle of the spikes and Luffy's elasticity. Additionally, her intelligence seemed unremarkable, often overshadowed by her quick temper and vanity.

However, following her defeat at the hands of Luffy, Alvida demonstrated a notable increase in resourcefulness and judiciousness. Without apparent external assistance, she managed to navigate the East Blue successfully and formed an alliance with Buggy, providing a level-headed balance to counteract the easily excitable members of his crew.

After consuming the Sube Sube no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, Alvida gained the power to make her skin incredibly smooth and slippery. This ability allows her to render any physical attack ineffective, be it from weapons, hand-to-hand combat, or even large debris. Attacks simply slide harmlessly off her body. Furthermore, this power enables her to "skate" on level surfaces using her bare feet, although she requires a ramp or initial momentum to start sliding.

In addition to the drastic change in her physical appearance, the Sube Sube no Mi caused Alvida's excess body fat to slide off, dramatically transforming her physique. She shed her previous bulk and acquired a perfect hourglass figure, making her incredibly beautiful to the point of captivating entire crowds of men at first sight.

Despite the change in her appearance, her physical prowess remains unaffected, as she retains her strength and is still capable of effortlessly wielding her signature weapon, the Iron Mace. The heavy, spiked mace has the potential to maim or kill an ordinary person with just one swing. Alvida has also demonstrated her accuracy by throwing the mace with enough precision to shatter an entire wooden shack, albeit from short distances.

Additionally, Alvida carries at least one flintlock pistol at all times and possesses enough skill to drive off a giant crab with a single shot.

Alvida's transformation, both physically and in terms of her abilities, significantly elevated her combat effectiveness and overall presence as a pirate in the One Piece world.

Alvida’s Relationships

Buggy Pirates

Initially, Alvida traveled alongside Buggy due to their shared goal of finding Luffy. However, she did not have much patience for Buggy and his crew's constant noise-making, often requesting them to be quieter. When their quest to free Buggy reached a dead end, Alvida did not hesitate to abandon him.

As a result, the Buggy Pirates ended up serving Alvida in the absence of their captain. Alvida had no objections when Buggy resumed his position as captain of the alliance upon reuniting with the original Buggy Pirates and his group of former Impel Down prisoners after the war.

Following Buggy's appointment as a Warlord of the Sea, Alvida became a member of his Pirate Dispatch Organization. When Buggy was beaten by Crocodile and Dracule Mihawk for inadvertently assuming leadership of the Cross Guild, Alvida and the rest of the administration nonchalantly agreed to follow Crocodile, showing little concern for their chairman's impending demise as they continued to revel.

Alvida developed a significant infatuation with Luffy after he became the first man to defeat her. However, her feelings for him differ from the infatuation exhibited by the Pirate Empress Boa Hancock, as Alvida's affection appears to be more rooted in admiration. Although she did express a slight disappointment when Buggy attempted to kill Luffy in Loguetown. It remains uncertain whether Alvida's feelings for Luffy have endured or evolved since their encounter in Loguetown.

Koby

Koby remains Alvida's primary enemy, as he has not forgotten the years of hardship and abuse she subjected him to. He boldly declared that pirates like her were the ones he aimed to apprehend when he confronted her with rebellious words.
