The Fazzoletto (red kerchief) was worn by Italian resistance fighters during WWII, and is now regarded throughout Italy as a symbol of freedom and rebellion. This eponymous wine honors that tradition … and has a rebellious streak of its own. Eschewing old-fashioned conventions, winemaker Carlo Manera left a portion of the perfectly ripe Barbera grapes on the vine for a month after the main harvest, then dried them for six weeks. This process turned each grape into a raisined knot of extra-concentrated flavor.
You’ll taste the results in the glass. Fazzoletto is dark, super-fruity, and wonderfully intense, with layers of rich plum, dark berry, and sweet spice flavors. Lusciously smooth, this delicious Barbera is ready to drink on its own, with Italian fare, or any way you like – there are no rules!
