A visit to Aviemore

When staying in the Loch Ness region, we would highly recommend a day trip to explore the Cairngorms National Park. The bustling town of Aviemore is the ideal place to spend a day: Aviemore is Scotland’s adventure capital and is renowned as a destination for people of all ages to access and enjoy the variety offered by the local mountains, forests, lochs and rivers. Coupled with some excellent eateries, there’s something for everyone in this cute ski town.

Loch Morlich - The Highest Beach in the UK

Loch Morlich is fantastic any time of year. In Winter it basks in snowy glory and can even freeze over, and in warmer months it comes alive with water sports.

A golden sandy beach framed by snow-capped mountains and a stunning pine forest - Loch Morlich enjoys one of the finest settings of any loch in the country.

Cheese & Tomatin - Yummy Wood Fired Pizza

After a walk in the forest, there's no better way to refuel than a wood fired pizza from Cheese & Tomatin, based above Cairngorm Mountain Sports. Trust us when we say this is a MUST VISIT!

Rothiemurchas Estate

Sir David Attenborough described Rothiemurchus as “One of the glories of wild Scotland” and he’s not wrong!

There are dozens of walks and cycle tracks - Rothiemurchus has a 50km network of carefully maintained paths which take you through beautiful ancient Caledonian pine forest, around stunning lochs and to the foot of vast mountains.

Be sure to get booked onto one of their many activities while you’re there - anything from Archery, Quad Trekking Highland Coo Safaris and Tree Top Assault Courses can be done at Rothiemurchas!

This photograph was taken on the Rothiemurchas and Iron Bridge Loop.

Cairngorm Reindeer Herd

The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd is Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer - there are 150 of these tame and friendly animals between the Cairngorms and The Glenlivet Estate.

Book a Guided Hill Trip to go and mingle with these fantastic beasts in their own environment, or attend a Herder Talk in the paddocks.

Landmark Forest Adventure Park

A brilliant place to take the kids, there’s plenty to keep them occupied. Between nature trails, roller coasters, butterflies and giant puzzles, there’s a great mix of activities for all ages. Some of our favourite features are the Tarzan Trail, SkyDive, Forest Tower and Dinosaur Kingdom.
