Bust A Groove (otherwise known in Japan as Bust A Move, which, of course, they had to change in North America and Europe, because Taito's Puzzle Bobble is internationally known as Bust A Move) is a hybrid rhythm/fighting game developed by Metro and published by Enix (now Square Enix) released for the PlayStation in 1998. The game's character and stage designs (and possibly the songs, as well) were done by Frame Graphics' Hideyuki Tanaka and Makiko Morioka, known for an anime called Super Milk Chan. It mixed elements of PaRappa The Rapper, because it's rhythm-based, and fighting games, where the player can use special moves on their opponent. They used songs produced by Avex, a Japanese entertainment company known for music. An arcade version was released by Atlus and Namco.

A sequel, Bust A Groove 2, was released by Enix and Metro in 1999 in Japan, and in 2000 in North America for the PlayStation, and unlike its predecessor, it was not released in Europe. They used songs produced by East West Japan, a Japanese division of East West Records, which is a UK division of Warner Music Group. Like its predecessor, Namco released an arcade version.

Both games had some pretty cool characters, while other characters were pretty…weird, to say the least. Generally, both of those games are weird and wacky, and some of the backstories in the Japanese version of Bust A Groove 2 are pretty dark. And none of the backstories make any sense at all. But I guess that's Japan for ya. And don't even get me started on…Pander. (*shudder*) Anyway, they both had awesome music.

Another sequel for the PlayStation 2, Dance Summit 2001, was only released in Japan. After that, the series never carried on. And the worst part is, none of these games sold very well, if at all, probably because some things in these games were considered niche, both in Japan and the West. Let's change that.

We need Square Enix to remake Bust A Groove 1 and 2, and make them uncensored, which means make these games aimed at teenagers, young adults and adults who grew up playing these games, not just kids, and include Strike's guns and drinking flask, Hiro's cigarette, and more, with re-recorded music (and with the endings retained but rewritten, especially James Suneoka and his cheesy jokes) and make Bust A Groove 3, using Unreal Engine 5, with local and online multiplayer, full voice acting, characters and stages from Dance Summit 2001, new characters and stages, new music, and multiple special interactions for each and every character, such as intro animations, victory animations, and Double Fever Time. Also, there could be multiple rivalries. For example, there could be heated rivalries, like Heat VS Strike, frenemy rivalries, like Heat VS Hiro (AKA Hiro-kun), and friendly rivalries, like Heat VS Kitty-N.

However, they should make these games more like Dance Dance Revolution, with Dance Pads, and Just Dance, with a camera. But players should still be able to play using controllers. And they should make the AI more of a challenge. For instance, they could dodge, block or reflect the player's special moves. For single player and both offline and online multiplayer for each game, there should also be a Free For All mode where up to 4 players dance off against each other, a Team Mode that lets two players cooperate in Arcade Mode or dance off against two other players, or lets all 4 players dance with each other as a team, like in Dance Summit 2001, an Extended Mode that lets you dance off against each other (or dance WITH each other) to the full versions of each song, like in the arcade versions, and, for nostalgic purposes, a Classic Mode that lets you play the original games.

They should hire Aaron G. West (the guy who raps and sings The Heat Is On from Bust A Groove 2) as the announcer, and for DLC, they should add the announcers from the original games, James W. Norwood Jr. AKA DJ Kickin' (Bust A Groove), Marvin Dangerfield AKA DJ Dangerous and James Parker AKA DJ Mix Deadly (Bust A Groove 2), and Donna Burke AKA DJ Donna Burke (Dance Summit 2001). Yes, THE Donna Burke, who sang Sins of the Father from MGSV. They should also give you an option to choose between the original soundtracks and the re-recorded soundtracks and an option to choose between the Japanese and English versions of the soundtracks. Of course, they’ll have to get the songs from Avex, East West, FBIJ, and other record labels again.

Oh! And they should also make worldwide releases of both the Japanese and English soundtracks (as a bundle) that include the full versions of each song, a Bruno Mars cover of Natural Playboy, re-recorded versions of Blue Knife (Kitty-N's Song) both in Japanese and English, and a re-recorded version of The Heat Is On by Aaron G. West.
