Lots of listening options in one space-saving component

Denon's RCD-N12 fits beautifully in space-challenged setups, and it comes loaded with built-in music options. Team up this mini-sized receiver with a pair of bookshelf speakers, and that might be all you need. Listen to music on CDs? There's a disc player built in. Enjoy playlists on Spotify®, TIDAL, or Amazon Music? Denon's HEOS Built-in technology offers a user-friendly streaming platform with control from an app on your smartphone.

Use HEOS to play internet radio stations, or pull in local stations over the air via the built-in tuner. And we especially love the HDMI ARC port on the back of this versatile little receiver: it lets you run an HDMI cable (not included) from your compatible TV for clear, powerful two-channel sound with your favorite shows, video games, and movies.

Connect other components

You get a dedicated input for connecting a turntable with a moving magnet cartridge, plus one additional stereo RCA input for a line-level analog source. A Toslink optical input lets you connect a digital component, and a front-panel USB-A input lets you plug in a thumb drive loaded with digital music files. Should you ever want to upgrade to a bigger amp, there's a stereo RCA preamp output. You also get a mono RCA output for connecting a powered subwoofer of your choice.

Set up a wireless whole-home audio system with HEOS

With HEOS Built-in technology, the CEOL RCD-N12 can be easily integrated into a wireless multi-room audio system. Stream music to HEOS wireless speakers and components in different rooms, and control each room's speakers independently with the free mobile HEOS app. The app lets you control playback, browse music sources, and select which rooms you want to use. Play the same music throughout your home or listen to something different in each room.

Gapless Playback: Many live and classical albums have no gaps in the music. Gapless playback ensures that there are no pauses between audio files. This provides playback with no interruptions, the way it was meant to be heard. Compatible with FLAC, WAV, and DSD music files via USB or DLNA.

Timers & Alarms: The Denon RCD-N12 offers a built-in Alarm Clock, Sleep Timer, and Auto Standby.

  • Alarm Clock: The RCD-N12 features a clock display with alarm. You can set an alarm so audio from a set input source (CD, Tuner, Optical, Analog) can be played back at a specific time. You can set this alarm to happen only once or every day.
  • Sleep Timer: You can have the unit's power automatically switched to "standby" once a set time has elapsed. This is convenient for listening to music while going to sleep. The sleep timer can be set to up to 90 minutes in steps of 10 minutes.
  • Auto Standby: The Denon RCD-N12 will automatically go into "standby" mode when there has been no audio signal and no operation for a specified period of time. You can set the Auto Standby time from 1 minute to 99 minutes.

Software Updates: Using the RCD-N12's network/internet connection, you can check for and update the latest firmware from the online Denon server. You can also set the receiver to automatically download the latest firmware and software updates when it is in standby mode. Visit Denon's Support Site for to check out the newest firmware and software updates.

Q
Do the speaker connedts work with banana plugs like the Crutchfield 14-gauge speaker wire with pre-attached banana plugs?
jon mark  Feb 24, 2024
1 answer
A
They do, Jon. The Denon RCD-N12 is equipped with a total of 4 binding post speaker output terminals that can be used to connect a pair of 4 to 16-ohm loudspeakers. The binding post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 12AWG), pin-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual).

Q
Will this work well with Polk R200 speakers?
carl  Jan 30, 2024
1 answer
A
The Polk Reserve R200 bookshelf speakers require power from a high-current integrated amplifier for best performance, Carl. Using an integrated amp like the Marantz PM7000N in the link below with a separate component CD player would be a great call! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_642PM7000N/Marantz-PM7000N.html

Q
How do you adjust the Bass and Treble? I don't see a button for this on the remote.
gordon  Jan 26, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Gordon. Thank you for your question. What happened to actual tone control knobs, or the words bass and treble on a remote? The top panel and the remote can adjust tone. There called Quick Select Buttons 1,2, and 3 When you are setting this receiver up, those can be programmed to change a source, tone controls, etc.

Q
I see the Demon CEOL RCD N-12 plays on 4 ohm speakers. I have newly purchased , still in the box, Paradigm 3000F speakers w/8 ohm resistance. What's the drawback btwn the impedance and if I use the 8 ohm w/ a 4 ohm output will I shorten the life or damage the Demon?
sdemoe  Dec 28, 2023

A
Greetings Steve. Thank you for your question. First, this Denon is not right for your speakers. It can run 8 ohm speakers, but the rated power at 4 ohms will be cut to almost half that. 35-40 watts. you speakers will play, but not as good as they can with that little power. Your speakers are looking for close to if not the full 100 watts. Small shelf systems like this Denon will just not have the needed power. You might need to look at a dedicated receiver and separate CD player.

Q
What does AUTO mean in the display?
mark  Dec 22, 2023
1 answer
A
I believe it refers to the Auto-Play function when using a TV audio source, Mark. When a TV audio source is input to this unit, the unit automatically switches to the input source set in "Default Input" and the Auto-Play function for playing TV audio on this unit is set. I hope this helps!

Q
Can the rear of the unit be placed flush against the wall, or is some clearance required to accommodate the power cord and/or other I/O cables?
mark  Dec 12, 2023
1 answer
A
Clearance is needed for the connection cables and speaker connections, Mark. The 12 5/8" deep measurement includes the speaker binding post connections, and the unit has rear vents that also need air circulation for reliable performance.

Q
Does this device display the RDS (Radio Data System) banner for FM broadcasts?
mark  Dec 10, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Mark. Thank you for your question. Just radio data when listening to Internet radio stations, not from over the air FM, or AM local radio stations.

Q
Are speakers needed?
julie  Nov 13, 2023
1 answer
A
Speakers are not included with the Denon CEOL RCD-N12 Compact stereo receiver, Julie. This Denon puts out 65-watts into 4-ohms and would be a great match for a small pair of bookshelf speakers. The Jamo Concert 9 Series C 91 II's in the first link below are a great value and would perform well with the Denon. Add a spool of 16-gauge Crutchfield speaker wire in the second link, and you have everything you need to get up and running with your tunes! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_701C91IIBK/Jamo-Concert-9-Series-C-91-II-Black-Ash.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CC16L/Crutchfield-Speaker-Wire-50-ft-roll.html
