Chicken Run 3 has yet to be confirmed by Netflix, although it's not hard to imagine Ginger, Rocky and co returning in the future.

We had to wait 23 years for it, but Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget proved worth the wait despite the controversy over the cast changes. The sequel switches up the formula by having our favourite chickens break into a farm.

It all ends in a way that perfectly sets up another movie. We'll have to wait and see if the sequel is a festive hit on Netflix though before getting too excited about a potential third Chicken Run movie.

But while we wait, here's everything you need to know about a potential Chicken Run 3.

Chicken Run 3 potential release date: When can we expect Chicken Run 3?

As mentioned above, Chicken Run 3 has yet to be confirmed by Netflix so we don't have an official release date as of yet.

Assuming they don't make us wait another two decades for a new movie, we reckon the best-case scenario is that we see the threequel in late 2026, based on the production schedule for the sequel.

Dawn of the Nugget was officially confirmed in June 2020, before filming got underway in early 2021 and then the first screening of the movie (at London Film Festival) was in October 2023.

Technically, if filming started in early 2024, then we could see it in late 2026. It's likely we might have to wait a bit longer though unless work has already begun on a script for the third movie.

Chicken Run 2 ending: Does it set up Chicken Run 3?

After the chickens thwart Mrs Tweedy's attempt to turn them all into nuggets, they escape from Fun-Land Farms, which dramatically explodes. (We have a feeling Mrs Tweedy survived, either way.)

They head back home with loads of new chickens in tow, but Ginger has got the taste for a dramatic life again.

The final scene of Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget sees Ginger, Rocky and others head to another chicken farm, where they've heard that there are 30 chickens to one cage and they have every intention of stopping that.

We don't see their latest heist, but it's easy to imagine that if the first movie was about breaking out and the sequel about breaking in, a third movie could take the scale even bigger and have them rescue chickens country-wide.

The sequel's director Sam Fell told Digital Spy that while he might need "a little break from chickens", he did see the scope for "more stories" while he was making the sequel.

"It's such a universal tale, really – they're underdogs. Well, they're chickens, but they're small, fairly defenceless, insignificant characters in a really big, dangerous world that finds them delicious," he explained.

"There's a family. They've got to survive in this world. How do they survive? There's so many challenges for them. There's many touchpoints that make you think, 'Well, what happens next?' I definitely think there's more stories to tell."

All we can say right now is that we'd happily watch whatever the chickens get up to next.

Chicken Run 3 cast: Who's coming back for Chicken Run 3?

Since it hasn't been officially confirmed, we don't have any cast announcements for Chicken Run 3 yet, but we can make some educated guesses.

Assuming the threequel happens quickly, it's unlikely we'll have the same major cast changes that caused a backlash for the sequel so we'd expect Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi back as Ginger and Rocky, respectively.

Bella Ramsey should also be back as their daughter Molly, while Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton and Lynn Ferguson should again reprise their roles as Babs, Bunty and Mac, respectively.

Miranda Richardson made a surprise return for the sequel as Mrs Tweedy and we just can't picture a Chicken Run movie without the villain. Neither can Fell, who told Digital Spy: "She's such a classic. She'll definitely be back."

Chicken Run 3 trailer: Any Chicken Run 3 footage yet?

Unsurprisingly, there isn't any footage of Chicken Run 3 as it hasn't been confirmed, let alone started filming. Sorry about that.

Chicken Run and Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget are available to watch on Netflix.
