For those uninitiated, Serena Williams is a polyglot. She is quite fluent in English, French, Italian, Mandarin, and German. The 42-year-old super mom recently flaunted her French proficiency while having a fun ‘workout’ session with her daughters, but she picked a different name when asked about the most beautiful language.

Serena Williams’ love for different languages

During the 2013 Roland Garros, Williams was conversing with an interviewer in French when she showed her love for France. But when she was presented with the question, “What is the most beautiful language in the world?”, she surprisingly replied, For me it’s Italian. I love French, but I think Italian is very beautiful.”

Williams was seen giving her victory speech in Italian after her victory at the Italian Open in 2016. These efforts show us why she’s a fan favorite and her eagerness to build a stronger bond with her non-English-speaking fans portrays her as a true role model. Serena Williams has given several interviews in the past in French as well. In 2016, she revealed that she wanted to give her speech in French when she won the French Open so she had to learn it. She also mentioned that the prevalence of the French language in several African countries is another reason for her to learn and understand the language.

Williams recently posted a video of her 6YO daughter, Olympia, helping out her 4-month-old baby sister during a ‘workout’ session on Christmas Day. The supermomma was seen teaching her daughters how to train together. She said, “Doucement, doucement … comme ça,” which means “gently, gently … like that” in French as Olympia was seen lifting Adira during her baby-sit-up session. She wrote ‘We all work out in this family‘ in the caption.

Speaking of beautiful moments, Serena Williams has managed to win the French Open thrice in her career. The 23x Grand Slam winner won her first title at the French Open in 2002 by defeating her sister Venus Williams.

Being a polyglot, Serena Williams would want her children to equip themselves with more than one language. Thus, Williams was recently seen incorporating a creative element while teaching Olympia English.

Williams took the help of American rapper Soulja Boy to teach Olympia English. Aiming to enhance the clarity of Olympia’s words, Williams used the lyrics of Soulja Boy’s songs, which Olympia seemed to already have a good grasp on.
