this is a good cheapie for sure....vanilla and gourmand type to me.. decent longevity

Detman101

Wearing this again today after letting it macerate for a few months.
The vanilla in the fragrance has come to the forefront as well as the fruiter aspects.
I layered this with a vanilla fragrance I made and it's absolutely HEAVENLY!!
The fragrance has matured beyond anything I could have dreamed for!
I think i'll be wearing this combo all week.

Clumsy plasticky cheap quality bottle!
This and Al Haramain's Detour Noir compete for the worst bottle out of all my collection.

But that won’t matter once you spray Animale Animale, it is exceptionally well made. One of the pioneer perfumes in Tobacco-Honey duo, classic 90’s vibe but never dated. Warm and inviting masculine TM Angel version. An absolute gem.

This perfume reminds me of a saying we have in Arabic .. God puts his secret in his simplest creations.

Whoever said a gourmand can't smell masculine needs to smell this. Honey tobacco with dark chocolate topped off with a splash of whiskey. Perfect for Thanksgiving week if you live in cooler weather.

Cold weather appropriate.
Even if some people enjoy the tobacco-honey combo for warmer weather, this surely is one to refrain from in such times. A beast in performance, sweet, masculine, and super welcoming. This scent can be worn day and night during those colder months and will cut through the cold. Smells timeless and quite unique since not a lot of people rock this cologne nowadays.
Do not sample, get this from discounters ~$25 for 200mL (which is what I have) blindly.
Now, I do see some resemblance to Uomo Signature but the coffee in the latter is much more pungent than other notes, and the cologne is thicker in general.

Hammered

Classic yet timeless. In todays fragrance world where everything has gone ultra sweet and ambroxan based, Animale Animale stays grounded with a deep masculine scent profile that anyone can wear.

Detman101

Oh hell yes!!
Package just arrived after a week and holiday delays...6.8oz bottle...wow, huge!
*2 sprays to arms, one to rear neck*

WHOOOOOA.....This is WAY better than the watered down modern version of "Davidoff - Zino" that I've been using!!!
"Animale Animale" is indeed as amazing as I had hoped! I've never smelled "Pure Malt" or "Amen" or "Angel Woman" before, but THIS....THIS right here is friggin PERFECTION!!!

I get the sweetness and warm creamy fruitiness on initial spray...then it blossoms and expands like a nuclear mushroom cloud into this AMAZING slightly spicy and vanillic...but still sweet and honey-infused...aura of deliciousness ALL AROUND YOU!! I'm picking up a spicy-woody scent in there as well...it's creamy and vanillic, but not overly vanilla!
And this is from 3 sprays!! I may have to take it down to two on exposed skin or only do 3 under my shirt.
Holy shinola this is GOOOD STUFF!!! I have been looking for this EXACT combo of notes for the longest time. I even went back to "Davidoff - Zino" trying to get close to this because it was the closest approximation, of what I had been searching for, that I have ever smelled.
This is gourmand nirvana...this might be my new signature scent...goodness.

Just put it on about an hour ago....it's STILL pumping like crazy! This is amazing! IT SMELLS SOOOOO GOOD!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3
I am hoping and praying that the wife likes this because I'm in love already!

I will update with drydown info later today.

(UPDATE: The next day)
I wore this fragrance all day and night yesterday....3 sprays total. I could still smell it at 11pm but very faintly. I had to put my nose to my inner elbow to smell it.
That was when I noticed that the drydown of this is EXACTLY the same as "Michael Jordan - Legend" on my skin!!
Oh..and the wife likes it!!! WOOHOO!!!
She didn't say it blew her away and gave her a headache or anything negative! So that means it's as smooth as I thought...another plus!

*NEGATIVE*
The only negatives regarding the fragrance so far are the physical bottle.
The thing is just a monster to try and hold. I realize I got the biggest bottle, but the square shape of it makes it hard to hold and spray effectively.
And then there's the sprayer...completely horrible. It doesn't do anything actually bad...but it's far from good. It shoots out such a small amount that you wind up putting on 4 sprays to equal one spray of any other brand sprayer.
Those two factors combined makes me want to decant all of this into one of my large 200ml spray bottles and keep my 100ml bottle (incoming) for display.

*FULL-WEAR BREAKDOWN*
I'm wearing a full setup of "Animale Animale" layered with 2 shots of my "Cheesecake" creamy vanilla fragrance on my chest. I've got on at least 10 sprays of AA to my body with 4 of those on my chest, 4 on my arms and 2 on my neck. Everything under clothes and it's radiating NICELY! I can smell everything blended together perfectly...this is just awesome. Now to see if it lasts all day without topping up. I brought a 10ml travel sprayer of the mixture along just in case (70%AA, 20%Bourbon vanilla, 10%Cheesecake vanilla) I need to top up....though I doubt it.
Always be prepared...lol.

But...more to follow at the end of the day. =D

UPDATE: This fragrance does SOOOO well in cooler environments. It lasted the entire day at work and kept me in a cloud of gourmand heaven. As soon as I went outside in the early afternoon to run errands...it faded severely. This fragrance does NOT do well with heat and even mild sweat. That is unfortunate...I'll have to plan on wearing this one mostly in the fall, winter and spring.
Summer wear ain't it...
I still love it, but this drops it from a "Signature Scent" to just a favorite because it can't handle year-round usage.
I think if I layer it with "Alexandria Fragrances - Hafez 1984" It will give this the BOOST that it needs to be worn in the heat.

Afc_Croatian

This fragrance smells like the name itself.

Imagine you're in a garden with tons of lavender and roses, and suddenly you come across a bear covered in honey, that's how I imagine Animale.

Animale is very interesting and different enough to be part of my collection. For starters, you get a HEAVY dose of honey, cinnamon and tobacco. If you smell closely, it will remind you very much of 1 Million.
Next, I don't get much depth with this fragrance It is that strong honey throughout. And that's fine, at least it's different than majority of the fragrances I own.
Is it worth it? If you enjoy sweet fragrances that are subtle and won't give you a headache then yes. If you're looking for a lot of depth I don't think you'll find it here.

That being said, the notes listed are all very promising. Maybe your nose will pick up something mine didn't. Give it a try. Inexpensive as well (Paid $40 CAD for a 100ml bottle, the 200ml was $5 cheaper but I really didn't want that big of a bottle, I'm silly I know...)

This fragrance is a somewhat masculine Angel (Women) by Thierry Mugler. .Definitely a great fragrance for the $.

Mr. Boston

Smells cheap. Smells good.

spodongle

a very timeless, masculine fragrance.
powdery, strong, a super easy scent to wear.
holds up very well to this day.

2020bottle
the opening starts out like a sour fruit
20 mins in it smells like vintage Opium Pour Homme with that chocolate note going on ,
. doesn't project very well it sits close to skin after 20 mins and fades away after around 4 hours so that is disappointing but excellent for the price , its good juice

Legend by Michael Jordan and this smell very close

Armchair Racer

I CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS! $26 for 200ml of this nectar from the gods?! That's $13 for 100ml! I feel like I committed robbery in broad daylight. This stuff is so good. Sweet, spicy, and fruity while simultaneously being clean, fresh, and soapy. Not quite the beast mode fragrance I was led to believe but good enough to get me through an 8 hour workday. And yeah the atomizer isn't the best but on a scale of atomizers from Mercedes Club Black (1) to Sean John 3am (10), it's probably a 5.

Deelecto

One of those everything-and-the-kitchen-sink masculine baroques of times past. On first spray I thought it smelled a bit dated, but after it blooms a bit on the skin (and perhaps some maceration over the past six months) that thought hasn’t worried me since.

This is basically like original formulation Mugler Angel with the feminine florals replaced with soapy masculine ones. And like Angel this is a sensory-overload bricolage, stacking together different types/genres of fragrance. Unlike modern scents that showcase individual synthetics, here we have entire phalanx units of naturalistic accords representing the sweet fruity gourmands, the soapy florals, tobacco & spices and so on marching en masse to the patchouli-heavy horizon.

One of those cases where price has no correlation to quality (in the best way). At a modern niche price this would still be worth trying, but they’ll essentially hand you a giant bottle of this stuff in exchange for a sweaty palmful of paperclips and pocket lint - it’s all rather mind-boggling.

silvs16

This is a fruity sweet fresh fragrance! Definitely smells like pineapple mixed with a blueish type freshness on the back end. Has some strong soapy notes. A good value, I got a 1.7 oz bottle for $20. A good one to add to the collection and a nice change from the norm. Apparently this has been around since 1994 so don’t sleep on it!

A1finesse

This isn’t synthetic

It’s probably the best cold weather cheapie you can get along with Cremos spice and black vanilla

It last all day and has been blended well

It feels a little mature but can be worn by any age

People on here make it so hard for new comers to decide what is right for them and it’s annoying hopefully my review helps ✌️

Drfrag

Smells good but synthetic.

MattFragrence

So incredibly nice, winter fall scent for sure, amazing sweet entry with a pumpkin spice, type tone to it such a nice smell, primarily for winter and fall for sure but no doubt it’s great, I have no complaints with this smell perfect for the price, gives me Christmas cabin trip vibes.
9/10 Overall, would be higher but only fits winter and fall.

JmThms

Similar to Mugler A*Men but notably different. This is lighter, sweeter with the honey, pineapple and vanilla, and the with pronounced tobacco. A*Men is darker, less sweet but has a more chocolatey facet, and more austere with that "tar" accord. Someone below said this is like the love child of Angel and A*Men and it seems the "Reminds me of...." section suggests that. I've never smelled the OG feminine Angel but looking at the accords and notes it would make sense. Animale Animale originally came out right between the Angel and A*Men releases in the early '90's. This is nice. Even more wearable than the more austere A*Men.

Arber Cami

They say this is a dupe of Pure Malt of Mugler, but I think its more a dupe of A* men from Mugler. It has that 90's style fresh, spicy ambery scent with a fruity twist. Really decent for the price.

Ferra_Verto

The love child of Angel and A*Men, crystallized in burnt honey and pineapple glaze. Dried bits of tobacco has been packed in to lend some grounding contrast.
Major sillage (fills up the room and leaves a noticeable trail), and lasts for days, especially on clothes.
Best suited for late autumn and winter when it's the coldest, wears beautifully and boldly.
Definitely a must for a collection, completely unisex.

Unmodernize

I just looove this scent. From first smell I liked it. To me, not very dated. It’s fresh/spicy, like the Nikos/Minotaure/Roma smells but actually, the best one out of the bench. Longevity is decent and it’s not overtly sweet like the aforementioned frags.

For the price, a steal. All thing considered, a 9.7 / 10 scent.

3NO7

Animale Animale is similar to Pure Malt but not as smooth or well rounded. It also has something funky in the base that a lot of the 80s-90s fragrances have in it which does make it smell kinda dated.

I like the stuff and enjoy it on my shelf to look at but can’t really think of an appropriate setting at which I would wear it.

It’s more of a spray myself around the house for the hell of it kind of frag.

Kingb413

This drys down to what pure havane comes out of the nozzle like , very expensive smelling and very versitile , if you like theirry muglar pure havane and miss it the dry down to this is almost identical to how pure havane starts to my nose anyway

Discoyak

This smells like Mugler Angel to me. Not A*Men, but actual Angel. It's definitely got a sweeter opening with the honey and seems a bit more synthetic. If this has been reformulated down I'd hate to smell the original because this is a one-spray max for sure (and I always tend towards overspraying).

stephen.redeker

I want to echo what the other reviews below say. This is similar to Mugler A*Men, but there are some differences. I own both, and sprayed the back of each hand to compare them. Animale Animale doesn't have the chocolatey/gourmand notes of (regular) A*Men, but it does have a thick honey pineapple sweetness, with hints of darker notes like tobacco (I'm mentioning Mugler because it's heavily mentioned here and "reminds me of" above). I would say Insurrection 2 Wild comes much closer to Pure Havanne than this. That's the best clone in every way. But if you're a fan of that type of scent, Animale Animale is a bargain at around $30 for the giant 200ml bottle.

Update: Same night, hours later after I wrote the above review. This really isn't as similar to A*Men as I thought. On the one hand, A*Men is stronger with that gourmand vibe and on the other hand (literally), the Animale Animale has faded to a lighter sweetness/tobacco. It's still enjoyable for me. Even though it's not similar when tested, for someone who hasn't smelled Mugler A*Men for a while, this would remind you of it initially. Same type of scent, but different direction.

New Update: This fragrance inspired the original A*Men, which came out shortly after Animale Animale! Mugler thought of taking that sweet ambery tobacco scent and adding a gourmand touch to it.

Corban Lucas

90s gourmand fragrance, nice honeyed pineapple opening but it's not overly sweet to me. It's based out with patchouli, oak moss and woods to keep it masculine and mature but still playful.

Given the price, this is a solid cheapie gem.

FreddyK

Sweet concoction. Not modern, but it's fine. Take Your time and surely You will appreciate this composition. I really enjoy it during cold summer days! Great cheapie!

Blizznakov

Animale animale smells like milk, ginger and cookies sprinkled with a little bit of lemon, musk and flowers. Is has almost nothing to do with A*Men. The scent isn't bad and it's only a little bit outdated. The bottle is plastic and wiggly. It last long with good projection. It's fine for that price, but there are definitely better choices

Étant un passionné de parfumerie
Soit niche ou designer
Je recommande vivement animal by animal
Rapport qualité prix
Il donne une vibe de pure havanne avec angel
Mais avec son propre style

Roh-Ee

It does not smell like Angel by any means! it reminds me of joop in the harsh opening
It does smell nice, but still smells cheap and synthetic
Very synthetic!
While I'm writing this review i took another sniff and now I get a Rochas vibes.
After few minutes It's smells like Armaf odyssey the clone of stronger with you by Emporio Armani

Stinky whiskey Buttons

Very very... Veeery Nice pineapple opening.. Not that natural but hey iff it smells Nice it smells Nice, then we get sweet dr pepper tobaco, imagen pure havanh take away the mugler dna and replace w cola and som Light white florals, this is a pure beast, it has charm and is loud and very unisex imo and deserves a place in my collection a real frankensteins monster perfume that has a little bit off everything

Safe blind buy iff you like sweetend spicy crowd pleasers like spicebomb, wanted by night and pure havann

Edit: it has a very soapy fougreish Base, like a basic shower gel for men, this and The Nice top notes make it a fantastic year around wear

rp64

I get Pure Malt, not so much Pure Havane. Yes the bottle, cap, and atomizer are awful. However for the price, it's a safe blind buy. Very nice fragrance.

Perfect Shot

It is very nice for a cheap fragrance. Before buying it i was doubtful because some comments here say it smelled dated and it started in 1994. But i don't think it smells dated at all. Its like a dirty honey vanilla tobacco nutmeg fragrance. Its very sweet. Probably for winter and nights.
I like it, but you have to like sweet fragrances to like this, its about the same level of sweetness of Ultra Male (though they don't smell similar).

It lasts a long time. Its very powerful. Has strong longevity over 8 hours and projection.

Petrachkoff

Sweet honey and juicy pineapple in the opening give way to a sweet ambery vanilla skin scent, with some floral tobacco and masculine touches floating about throughout. Longevity is good, projection seems good, I'm still getting little whiffs about 5 hours after 6 to 8 sprays. Smells like a lot of other sweet frags, but isn't dated to my nose. I don't usually review stuff, but I really like this one, especially in the $20 range.

BigBobRoss

Smells like stale biscuits, kinda funky...

Not really to my liking kinda makes me nauseous

Moderate lasting power

irresponsibleadult

I (27f) just tried this for the first time yesterday afternoon, and I can still smell it on my inner arm today (I'm writing this at 10 in the morning). It's such a lovely fragrance, and it works well with my body chemistry. I would describe it as a gentler and more approachable version of Pure Havane. With this, I was able to distinguish the different notes like honey, tobacco, and musk, where Pure Havane overwhelmed me with that strong, somewhat mentholated note. There was none of that distracting element in Animale Animale, so I was able to enjoy it more. :)

Flamma

@Deutsch100
I think you got (Animale for men) and NOT (Animale Animale for men) there's a big difference between the two, the one you want is the latter.

Deutsch100

I was incredibly intrigued seeing 180 members voted this as resembling Mugler Angel edP. I have worn Angel since 1994, and have never been without 2-4 bottles in stock at all times :) Of course, I had to order this Animale for Men!

When it arrived, I right away saw what all the cheap bottle, cheap cap, bad sprayer complaints are all about...the packaging and actual bottle and cap are dreadfully awful.

Upon first spray, I was totally dumbfounded how 180 people thought this smells like iconic Angel edP. To me, it was a very "masculine" freshy; like Coolwater or Green Irish Tweed. It smelled good...but I got no patchouli, chocolate or anything else resembling my beloved Angel.

BUT....I sprayed a few squirts in the bathroom and walked away (and forgot I had done so). About 30-45 mins later I walked back into the bathroom to get some hand creme, and I was hit with a faint (but prominent) smell of ANGEL edP. I could not believe it. The dry down of Animale Men does indeed smell like Angel edP.

After this discovery, I put a spray of Animale Men on my wrist...but did not smell it for at least 30 mins! Again...I smell Angel. It is not a clone, but there is enough of a similarity, that even whilst typing this review I get little wafts of Angel around me. Wow moment for sure!!

BonClay

Very underrated smells fresh sweet like melon and has a great dry down especially on skin

neemz

Oh Maaaaaan !! soooooooo good so many memories!!!

This screams, Diego Maradona and World Cup 1990 Italy

?Have you guys noticed that despite of your taste in scents and what you pick as the worst you have ever smelled, (Bad Boy from Carolina Herrera also Invictus form PR) ...there are times that you pick something that completely contradicts your standards?

well,....This one is that exception for me thats tied to a certain time, place, friends and memories....WOW so nostalgic almost brought me to tears lol

It is def watered down from the days I remember stealing it from my dad's stash :)
If you are from 80's you would get your second bottle as soon as you smell it.

drummertama11

Wow, just wow. If there’s a scent that screams the 90’s, it’s this stuff right here. I blind bought it for the purpose of it potentially being a scent I have possibly smelled when I was a kid in elementary. As soon as I took my first whiff, it reminded me of my 2nd grade teacher. The dude used to wear this and Polo Safari (another fragrance I blind bought for the same purpose). The olfactory rush of getting thrown back to my 90’s childhood is amazing.

The sweet honey opening, to the beautiful tobacco mid, to the late floral-almost unisex-dry down; is mature and daring.

Scent: 10 oofs
- It profiles to a scent of its time, but carries on to be a timeless classic. Prolific opening, legendary dry down.

Sillage: 9 oofs
- leaves a great aromatic trail anywhere you walk but with more than 6-8 atomizations.

Performance: 6 oofs
- 6 hours

Longevity: 9 oofs
- It can last on the skin for more than 6-8 hours but can last longer on clothes.

AnodyneS

I almost really really like this, ALMOST... but the honey... there isn't anything wrong with the honey note here, I simply just can't get along with honey in anything no matter what. That being said, if honey notes don't bother you, this is great! I definitely picked up the Amen comparisons through the life of this, they seem to fade in and out of each other as it continues to dry.

I would definitely recommend this, especially at the price, as long as you don't have an aversion to any honey notes like I do. That being said, I'll continue to wear this from time to time, maybe I'll learn to get along with honey eventually as I really like everything else going on with this fragrance.

SimplDude

Don't let that funky looking bottle fool you. This juice is still around for a reason. I had worn this fragrance back in mid 90's and to my nose, it was simply gorgeous. It was given to me by my sister-in-law after she got back from her trip to New York. Since I've worn many fragrances over the years, I almost forgot about this one. Now that I'm into men's fragrances, I am glad to purchase a new bottle. True enough, it didn't disappoint and now I could tell that this has that Amen Pure Malt or Pure Havane vibe to it, like what other reviewers are saying. That's a big plus for this gem considering those two Mugler fragrances made names for themselves.

It's so nice to revisit an old pal, reminisce our good times together and give him a worthy place in my collection. If your nose agrees with it, this juice is a bang for your buck. Projection and sillage are just about right for its price point.

I would rate this gorgeous gem a 9.5/10

“Let us spread the scents of peace and kindness. The two most beautiful fragrance in the world that will cost you nothing and will get you a totally different kind of compliments” 🙏

Fraghesh11

This is the first time I’ve ever reviewed a fragrance, and my reason is clear. This is an awesome scent — part throwback, part fougere, part gourmand and really good overall. The problem is the atomizer. I have NEVER, in all my time with frags, from cheapie to designer to niche, experienced such a complete SHIT atomizer. I know the bottle is known to be considered “cheap looking” — but that’s not important…but the atomizer — which is important— is just straight SHIT.
I find it interesting that this gets compared so much (though not as much recently) to Pure Havane or Pure Malt, and that those frags are commonly known to have questionably designed atomizers, when this one makes me willing to take Mugler’s sprayers a million times over.
Good juice though for a “classic”.

Guinea54

Did they change the formula to this or something? Back in like 2011 or so when I owned a bottle of this stuff, it reminded me a lot of pure malt. It felt like a less rich and dense version of it that didn't have as much longevity and projection. I found it to be more of a lighter scent.. When I look at the reviews and ratings, it's considered a power house monster performer, and people are saying it smells like Angel and the pure malt reference got down voted like crazy.. Has this been the only fragrance in history to get actually stronger with a reform and perhaps even changed the entire scent profile entirely?

curt42

This one lives up to the rep. Deinitely a bit of a throwback, in a good way. Reminds me of a better blended OG RL Safari. I agree with the previous review, this could be considered both a fougere and gourmand. Don't know why this is so inexpensive. maybe the presentation. If you put this in a heavy sculpted bottle with a decent label, people would still be buying it at $100. Honestly, you could not go wrong with this in Fall, winter or cool Spring, day or night. Be a sissy sprayer with this one.

Style 29

You hear rumours that certain fragrances are awesome AND cheap. Some rumours are true, and Animale by Animale is one of them. On my skin I get a very unique fusion of gourmand and fougere type notes...with a hint of mint. Very good bang-for-your-buck. Blind buy? Sure, I'd be surprised if anyone didn't like this.

11Mic22hael33

Smells expensive! High quality, dense and natural smelling. Smells softly animalic, musky and sweet with pipe tobacco. Very nice find. Smells like Ralph Lauren Safari(latest formulation) but much better, with more complexity and depth. Works much better on your shirt, the top notes last for hours on clothing. If you are into this type of fragrance, buy it. I don't see how anybody could be disappointed. It's a really GREAT fragrance! 5 stars!

Animeguy

Ok Guys if you are looking for a dupe to Mugler Amen HAVANE THIS IS IT! I'm glad I listened to the reviews because they had it 100% right! For the price this smells amazing, tobacco Honey yum! Is definitely lighter than HAVANE but thats OK, you can spray a few times without drowning the room. Definitely a must buy if you miss Pure Havane by Mugler.

I sometimes like ordering throwback cheapies as a sort of low risk way to familiarize myself with scents that have been around awhile that I've never tried before. I looked at the ingredient pyramid on this one and thought, "hmm....it sounds promising, but, I dunno." I went ahead and ordered it. The thing about ingredients like honey and lemon is that, depending on how they're used and what they're combined with, can conjure up radically different genres of scent. (Do I make any sense on that one? Probably not.)..Anyway, another scent I really love that contains those two ingredients is Boss Number 1. It has a refined, spooky, haunting quality. When I first smelled this I thought "Thierry Mugler". Nothing personal to guys who love his fragrances, I'm just not a fan. To me the opening was a huge blast of lemony gourmand something-or-another. My mental image was of teen sex machines on the prowl for girls. No offense to anyone, that was just what popped into my head. That said, I don't dislike it. And, I'm sure there will be an occasion that will come along that'll be suitable to wearing it. Plus, it has an interestingly soapy drydown, kinda like Drakar.

smellsbells

wow the reminds me of list is all over the map. this is a great cheapie..closest to havane by amen for sure..or legend by that basketball star guy. But womens angel? lol no way

dajc26

I am wearing the heck out of this fragrance and loving it. Kept the bottle on my desk for a few weeks now because I would itch to smell it. The notes pyramid and comparisons are on point, and the low price is a no-brainer. The bottle and atomizer do reflect the cheap price, but the smell is addictive. This makes me want to try A-men.

Amberwood47

Une ressembance très frappante avec le fameux Angel TM et une vibe de TL pour lui. Unisex, voir trop féminin à mon goût, je le verrais plutôt porté par une femme. Très bon rapport qualité prix.

mapache

This MUST have been re-formulated ! It is 1/2 of the scent that it used to be.....sadly.
OK...it does smell good/nice....but the depth of the scent is lacking from the original formulation....IMO.
Still glad I own this again .....but....

lightborn

This has been a difficult one for me. I seem to have changed my mind so many times over the last couple of days; going from loving it, to not being so keen. In the end I've become accustomed to its mercurial nature and would rate it as a high like. To the smell.
On opening there's a heavy sticky sweet pineapple with a mild citrus background. This at first smells sickly, wrong. The ylang ylang then thunders through and you know you're in for a rollercoaster ride. As the pineapple drifts away you get the rose and lavender, both very sweet smelling. There's other florals as well but masked by a heavier green scent. Without the notes above I'd be clutching at straws trying to name them but yes, lily of the valley and jasmine seem about right. The sweet rose and lavender are then pushed further forward with the heavy vanilla. We now seem to be calming down a bit. I can certainly get the sandalwood but the tobacco is very light. I don't know if I'm smelling that because I know it's meant to be there. As the hours pass it becomes warm, lightly woody, with the sweet floral smell ever present.
Sillage is heavy - my family certainly knew I was wearing 'something' when I entered the room. Longevity is moderate with a couple of small sprays to the neck.
This is certainly a scent I'll come back to in the future. I don't know why but there's a part of me that thinks this smells like the lovechild of Lempicka Homme and PR 1 Million - it doesn't smell like either, but it's leaving that mental signature.
Maybe I should try . . .
No, maybe not.

Atomikbomb_

I never would've thought to try this, even with Angel being my signature. A friend on this site *GENEROUSLY* gifted my husband a set of sample decants from his stash, and included this because of my love for Mugler's creation.

Well, my husband said it was too sweet for him (and the poor man probably just can't disassociate from Angel either because of me). He likes it, but said he "couldn't wear it". So here I am.

~

Angel flankers never appease me; and I've tried a few. What ends up happening is that I inadvertently compare them to the original, and I get bored. I would rather just scrub them and put the original back on, unless they're different *enough* to be total breakaway departure fragrances. This however is different; and as impactful. It's fascinating and holds my attention...it's another bizarre gourmand to become lost in, and for that reason, I love this. It's not a Mugler, but feels like it.

It's more masculine and I get some wood notes. There is pineapple in Angel (which sometimes I detect more than other times); however, the pineapple here is electric and super bright. I do get some languid ylang ylang when I move around...but not consistently. It's very strange; ylang ylang always feel jungle-esque and sensual to me.

The muskiness of the patchouli in this is intoxicating; and the blend with honey moreso instead of cotton candy-ness creates a more androgynous feel. The tobacco also tips it slightly in another direction...but it's equally as strong as Angel. I've said Angel is unisex (possibly 70/30 toward femininity), and I'll also firmly assert that this is as well (70/30 toward masculinity).

Without the Angel comparisons (which I cannot help but make); this is a funky, creative, innovative but sexual frag that can be worn by whoever has the fortitude to rock it.

Animale “Animale” Men EDT opens with a moderate projection of sweet, fruity, floral and gourmand notes. The opening is pleasant and it feels syrupy. The lemon, lime, and pineapple have a quick presence, sharp, and sweet but they start dissipating under the influence of other rising accords. Along with the fruity opening, notes are the very sweet honey. The ylang-ylang is also a prominent accord and it comes across as sweet, thick, floral, creamy, and slightly woody. A moment after the opening a green “dirty” note comes up, possibly a nuance of the ylang-ylang, musk, or patchouli. The lavender, rose, jasmine, and lily of the valley are floral accords that combine themselves without emphasizing a particular note; the galbanum and patchouli bring a green noticeable note. As the fragrance commences to dry-down, the sandalwood adds a sweet accord, immediately counterbalanced by a tobacco and vanilla notes. The amber and musk are the last to enter the blend and work as projection and boosting notes; the musk is a lot less noticeable than the amber. As time passes, the amber becomes more noticeable adding a warm, and resinous accord. The most noticeable opening to dry-down changes in this fragrance is the quick dissipation of the opening lemon, lime, and pineapple accords, and the development of the amber, warn accord which occurs toward the dry-down. Once Animale “Animale” Men EDT has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, resinous, sweet (honey, vanilla), floral (ylang-ylang), and tobacco fragrance with green (galbanum, patchouli), spicy, and woody accords. The fragrance feels comforting, complex, earthy (with a soft green dirty note), floral/fruity, masculine, mature, mild, rich, sweet, syrupy, warm, woody, and pleasant.

moawiya.alanazi

starting off, what a beast.

I was intrigued by the affordability and its, according to you, resemblance of A*MEN so i said what the h*** let's try it.

The opening has a strong harsh moldy note that only last for the first 15 minutes then it starts to reveal its beautiful creamy balmy layers

Drydown which is complicated sometimes reminds me of Angel EDP by TM or Dior Addict EDP (navy blue bottle) and just today when i woke up it smelled like Givenchy Pi.
(Keyword: VANILLA)

This animal is a chameleon.

Performance: easily exceeds 12+ hours on skin

Sillage: moderate to slight which gives room for overspraying.

Vapor Trail

I've been wearing this for a couple days now and I don't think it smells much like A*Men - mainly because it's missing that love-it-or-hate-it tar note.

For this reason, I think it's much more wearable. Don't get me wrong; this is still a potent, sweet fragrance that I wouldn't dare put on in the summer, but it falls short of "powerhouse" status both in terms of projection and complexity. The pineapple/honey vibe is there throughout most of its lifetime, with the sweetness dying down towards the end.

I can definitely recommend Animale Animale to gourmand fans. It's not too dense or cloying and seems more versatile than many in the genre. It also has a pretty unique note breakdown, especially versus contemporary fragrances.

weegee

@Señorlancetti, have to admire your passion. Reading your call-out of A*men as a "fart in the wind" nearly ruined my laptop - if I hadn't turned my head I'd have spit my merlot on it rather than the floor as I cracked up laughing. Scared the cats, too, but good on ya for the giggles.

So... naturally I had to find my bottle of Animale Animale For Men and spray liberally. What was I thinking?!?! I'm surrounded by a funky cloud of tobacco, honey, cedar, pineapple and -yeah, I'll say it-- memories of my late grandfather. Charitably, this is a "mature" fragrance and if I could resist the desire, no, the NEED to shower, I'm guessing this funk would persist for hours and hours, like the cloud of dirt that surrounded the Pig Pen character in the old Peanuts comic strip.

Would just one spray be appealing? Maybe, but it'll be years before I try unless I've had too much wine and find myself thinking about my grandfather.

Old school pipe tobacco kept in a cedar box, side of canned fruit cocktail optional.

Matux

A toned down A*Men. Redundant if you have this last one.

jaybear

Caramelized pineapple and patchouli with a smoky undertone which in my opinion is more like burnt rubber than tobacco. Quite delicious. Great bottle and package!

Great99

Grown up fragrance in a juvenile bottle. Has a gentleman style, the opening is a bit much, but the dry down is worth it. Popular choice on cheap hidden gems lists, and easily found on discounters. Dries to a tobacco leaf and vanilla, not a pipe tobacco but more the dry natural leaf. Don’t get me wrong, this is a synthetic creation, but blended well into a mature scent that can be appreciated. This is more a sensual fragrance, but feels dated in today’s fragrance world. I consider this a reflection of men’s fragrances transition from macho power houses to sweet gourmand so common today.

Mando

Angel minus the patchouli.

Beautiful scent. I had worn it in the late 90s and forgot about it till recently. Repurchased it again and like it once more.

lenon

The older bottle has a great performance. I like the mix between pineapple, honey and tobacco. But... I was wearing this scent when my girlfriend told me "You are smelling like your grandfather". Years ago I recieved the same "compliment" from another person. Too old school for me... But it's a great fragrance. OBS: Some people said this smells like Angel - Mugler

Pense Nez

Attention: Aventus Bros

If you would like to jump on the hype train before everyone else did, you basically have two choices: Colony or Animale Animale.

Considering Colony is kind of dated these days, Animale is the kind of fragrance that has basically been ripped off ad infinitum since the early 90's.

Now that gourmands are a well established genre, it's easy to write this off. But it really was a trailblazer. Like everything, apparently newer bottles have had their souls harvested by IFRA and the accounting department. But the old juice is like smoking a fine cigar in a tiki bar, the sweet smell of sun warmed skin mingling with your Yaka Hula Hickey Dula.

Screw Aventus. Buy a Hawaiian shirt and wear it with your tuxedo like a true fashionista.

Grillmaso

this review is so easy actually:

"Do you like A*Men Mugler?"

a) yes = give this try for sure.
b) no = dont buy this, you wont like it either.

PS: I dont understand comparison with Rochas man. Because of that vanilla at drydown?
MEH.
For me, they are totally different.

Bigsly

I tried what I'm guessing is a newer formulation, because this seems quite different from a sample I obtained about a decade ago. This is much lighter, and is almost like a different scent, in that it reminds me of Lomani's Ignition for Men, only diluted quite a bit. I get a fruity and powdery "masculine" floral with a bit of wood "structure." And it's at least a little sweet. I think I like Ignition better and that's really strong, so I'm not sure I will keep this bottle. At this point I would not compare it to any of the A*Men fragrances.

UPDATE: Over time it becomes more vanillic, and the only thing I detect that is questionable at this point is some sort of "chemical" element (kind of like burnt metal). Overall, though, at a low price I can understand the appeal, and will definitely wear it at least one more time.

dabatch

one thing is for sure: this is much better than mugler a-men, maybe even better than pure havane. 6/10

smellsbells

have an older bottle and love it...dense and very mugler like(havanae/puremaltish) For the price a greta cheapie and cool bottle

Summer4Life

I can't smell the resemblance to either Angel or A*Men at all.

Anyway, while it's not bad actually, it's not very young smelling in my unreliable opinion. I'd say it suits people in their 40s best.

The performance is disappointingly weak though. 30mins after spraying twice on my wrist and I can't smell it unless I bring it up my nose. Gonna return it.

Atelier_man

For a cheapie this is nice,

It is deep, rich, good performance and really cuts the atmosphere

el_perrodeluis

I have so many things to say about this fragrance.
First of all, I have to tell you guys, this is an Amazing Scent! It's very similar to Pure Havane by Thierry Mugler. But, easier to undertand, with one tobacco note, less powerful than the Mugler's frangrance. But, that's actually nice. The girls prefer Animale Animale over Pure Havane.
But the proyection is weak, in general, this is a great scent, and the price is just incredible.
Try it guys you won't die.

richmilton

As others have indicated, it's close to A*men but without that tar note. It's not a gourmand to me, but gives a gourmand vibe vanilla, honey, and other sweet notes. In the same gene pool as Rochas Man and Prestige by Cuba, but the tobacco makes it more masculine than those two fragrances. I like it, but don't love it. It's too much like a lot of other similar fragrances and not that unique. The longevity is lacking. Maybe 1 or 2 hours on skin, and 3 to 5 hours on clothes. Projection is only an arm's length for 20 minutes or so after application. Less than $20 for a 3.40oz is about the right price for this fragrance. Ideal for cooler autumn days when you want to save your best juice for special occasions.

SybrenZandstra

If you are planning to buy a new bottle of this (with batchnumber: 067163) then don't!

The new formulation is so weak that it's a joke!
Definitely buy yourself an older bottle from the 90's or begin 00's

The fragrance used to be very strong and delicious but now you can literally not smell it anymore after 15 minutes...

Shugenja

I bought this over one year ago. I hated it and put it away. I also hated A*Men. I put A*Men in a gift bag and gave it to a friend. I forgot about Animale Animale. I was getting out my autumn/winter frags and saw this. I was in for the night and sprayed this three times on my chest.

It finally smelled like the scent pyramid and was sweet and warm. Far superior to A*Men to me. I dislike A*M very much. Animale Animale has no unpleasant opening, it is a great gourmand and still masculine. This one goes to the front of the line-up of cold weather scents.

This stuff is world-class and very nice. Good for leisure and work. I would skip it for formal occasions.

Carlitos

This fragrance has been already extensively reviwed. I would like to add some personal opinions only, comparing Animale Animale with A*Men.

- A*Men was launched in 1996. Animale Animale was launched in 1994. If one fragrance is clonning the other, surely it's not Animale Animale.
- The two fragrances are similar in their different stages. The dry down is praticaly identical.
- A*Men is a bit sweeter and spicier. Animale Animale is a bit fruitier (pineapple).
- Animale Animale performs almost as good as A*Men.
- A*Men has a bit of smokiness that I do not detect in Animale Animale.
- A*Men is a bit more manly than Animale Animale. I do think that Animale Animale is closer to Angel than A*Men is close to Angel..
- A*Men has an average sprayer. Animale Animale has a bad sprayer.
- Three 200 ml bottles of Animale Animale cost as much as one bottle 100ml of A*Men.

I tested Animale Animale in one arm and A*Men in the other. I asked my wife to tell me which is which (she adores Angel and loves A*Men).
- Opening notes - She got it right.
- Heart notes - She got it wrong.
- Drydown - She got it wrong.

Wow, did I sleep on this fragrance. This smells like a pretty good medium between Angel and amen with pineapple. I just received my bottle earlier this week and I am very happy that I pulled the trigger. I will try this fragrance layered with Angel lotion or oil. I do recommend this is it's cheap without smelling cheap however I'm not saying that it smells expensive or niche at all. It's just a nice fragrance if you like sweet with a pinch of fruity flavor/scent. And to think this one predates amen I'm not sure about angel but again this is a no-brainer. I don't get the chocolate people are talking about my nose picks up more of a roasted pineapple type of smell.

britrockguy64

Of all the notes in this wondrous liquid, no one mentions the cedar? It appears briefly after the first ten minutes and fades after twenty, but it is marvelous

mkpunk

Animale Animale for men slightly malty, slightly cigarette smoke, not overly gourmand Angel/Angel for Men (or Amen). Amen is known for being super sweet and one of the first gourmand scents for men. This to me is a prototype that Amen took and went with to create the male gourmand fragrance as we know it. It is not cloying like Amen and Cuba Prestige (Gold) is and it isn't tar-like Amen is upon opening. It is sweet but not in a cloying way.

In the mess of notes for this fragrance I get something malty (anise?), tobacco, vanilla with some pineapple in the opening. I do not really smell a chocolate note or accord like others have, or if it is there it is combined with another note to create a different accord. Hey, we don't always smell what others smell...

The scent is a lady's choice. My ex-girlfriend liked it on me. When it comes to performance, this is no slouch despite the pricing. Longevity, it lasts about 10 hours. Sillage is about 4/5 feet for about two hours.

I find that Animale Animale is more wearable than Amen or even Cuba Prestige. I wore it in 80 degree outdoor concerts and it didn't choke people out with it. Use it for concerts, dates and night out. That said stick to fall to cold spring days for use.

I have to rate Animale Animale for Men at a 8.1. It smells really nice and girls do like it but it could be abrasive given the wrong situation like say church or work.

ropb2982

This is a wonerful scent but anyone that says this is like a*men or pure malt are seriously deluded...this is so close to angel for women its unreal..

yella_light

Great alternative to A*Men who are on a budget without synthetic notes. It actually sits close to the skin after an hour or so, but last 10+ hours on my skin.
I like this smell, but only blind bought this to add to my collection. It's not my go to smell when I'm with my wife, but will wear it occasionally. It's a nicely done fragrance and I am glad to own a bottle.
I don't see teens wearing this at all, but more mature guys wearing it at night during the winter months. A person can wear it during the Fall when it's not hot out.
It doesn't have that harsh tar-like opening, so I like it more than the original A*men

Age group: 21+
2-3 sprays max

Climate: Fall, Winter
Sillage: 4 stars
Longevity: 5 stars
Versatility: 2 stars
Scent: 4 stars
Overall: 4 stars

Mando

I had this years ago in the late 90's, it was a powerhouse scent and knowing it was released before A*Men makes this one to me the "1st true gourmand" IMO. Ahead of its time.

sachaisthebest

Very long lasting old school scent, it's timeless. I just really don't like this scent at all. When I first got it I really liked the scent but after using it once I couldn't stand the scent so I sold it to a friend. This is a classic power house scent.

Lockon

I had to spray A*men on one hand & Animale on the other.
They don't smell the same on me.
But anyway it's okay, it only cost $17.00 for 3.4 oz bottle.
I wouldn't buy this again.
Sillage & Longevity....are both great.
So if you like this scent, then you'll love that the sillage and longevity are great with this one.
You get a nice buck for your buck, but not might for me.
Another scent Jeremy likes, that I don't.

I've had this fragrance for a year, at first I got it for the same reason as a lot of people, it's supposed to be a a good cheap replacement for pure malt/pure havane. At first I sort of liked it, but after a few wears i've been noticing the smell evolves into a sort of plastic like smell after a few hours. Not bad for someone whose starting a collection, but wouldn't buy again.

Well, all I can say is that I genuinely love this. I have smelled many, many fragrances, some really expensive and "niche", some less so. When I first tried this, my first thought was that this was smooth, yummy and gorgeous. It also lasts all day - which is more than can be said for many of the others.

rmf1112

@otterside
Well said!
To be sure, when the hype train for a frag rolls through, it seems like it takes most of the frag community with it, and many get a fragrance and must stare at the pyramid while attempting to comvince themselves they can smell the individual notes. "Oh I get a rose dominent, citric leaning fougere with hints of moondust and alpaca musk." When in reality, if they were to step back and just smell it as a fragrance, like most people do, like what things actually, in reality smell like, that it smells like shit.

I'm not saying all of the frags are like this, but there seems to be a decent enough number of those frags that makes it frustrating to try and use reviews as solid evidence as to weather to purchase.

Yeah yeah everyone is different, and somebodys greasy taco farts might be the next persons favorite animalic musk, but I think sometimes these reviews need a heavy dose of reality.

Thank you for providing that.

Ottersideoflife

So, you read all the reviews below and you think "This is one of those under-the-radar cheapie gems everyone is talking about!" and you see one low on the shelf in some out of the way shop and spring for it. Take it out of the box. Looks bad. The kind of plastic they used to make ice scrapers for cars and give away free at gas stations. "That's ok", you tell yourself, "it's what's inside that counts!" With all those bewitching descriptions still in your head you give the bottle its first spray and....

... this is garbage water. Somehow both synthetic and rotten. You can't believe it. You go back and re-read some of the notes, then smell again.Someone even said it WASN'T cloying! Maybe it's just you, it's gotta be, how could all those people be so wrong? You decide to give it a day.

The next morning you try again. To no avail. You WANT to smell all those wonderful notes everybody else is smelling. But there is a heavy blanket of acrid chemicals, like sooty floor polish sweetened with silicone tub sealant, smothering over all those lovely ideals. You KNOW those notes are there though, the fruit and vanilla and caramel and oakmoss, buried under all that pollution, so you wait. The drydown comes.

But like all smog, it changes the landscape. Eats into the foundation and erodes it. The damage is done. No amount of beauty will come and no belief or testimony of others will make appear what is not there.

Uh-umm

This is a much loved fragrance. Recommended by a friend and I had to have it. This one was compared to A*Men Pure Malt. This fragrance rocks a much lighter and classier vibe to Pure Malt because of the honey and pineapple accord and lack of that malt boozy quality, ironic. Pure Malt would be a much heavier fragrance in comparison. After all is said and done, this was money well spent and u know chicks approve

Lomasfuerte

This is one of the best fragrance money can buy period a must have in any perfume collector
The bottle is ironic and some kind of joke
Any way don't judge a book by its cover

ginandcoffee

Opening blast reminds me of the patchouli in Angel. Unfortunately becomes a skin scent within half an hour. Wish it lasted longer.

socorrosouza

Yes, it definitely is tacky. But, on me what a fragrance !!!!!!!!!!! Long lasting, sumptuous, on my skin it is quite different from Angel, they are alike only in that they last long (sillage from Angel is huge, from animale less so), are gourmands and have honey and patchouli (Animale also has cherry , tobacco, pineapple, lime and lemon) in their notes and are from the 90s. Love it !!!!!!

socorrosouza

On me Animale Animale smells like honey and leather (probably the tobacco/ nutmeg combo) with a faint woodsy background. It is delicious, lasts for over 8 hours on my skin (more than a day on clothes) with heavy to moderate sillage. Lovely and not very expensive.

sheynose

Interesting fragrance. Its opening is a synthetic mess of notes fighting for your attention. Luckily it settles down quickly into a sweet warm lavender and vanilla which reminds me of Le Male. If the fragrance had stayed here it would have been a 10/10 for me. Unfortunately after around thirty minutes the warm notes fade and citrus starts to ramp up, leaving a citrus and lavender which is sweet and light but a bit synthetic. The citrus in this reminded me of something, and it took me a good wile to place where I had smelled this. It came to me finally and it was a scent memory from when I was young living at home with my parents. I'm not sure if it is still made but it smells like a cleaning product called Lestoil.
For the time period that this came out it deserves a 10/10. But it is not 1994 and there are much better things out there.

6/10

no-fi

Animale Animale has a lot to answer for. In 1994, it was groundbreaking for a designer scent - it took the gourmand appeal of Thierry Mugler's hugely popular women's scent, Angel, and transplanted it to a mainstream men's fragrance. It would be a further two years before Thierry Mugler would capitalise on the masculine appeal of the gourmand trend he sparked with his own male version, A*Men, which also proved to be phenomenally popular. Countless A*Men flankers followed.

Fast-forward two decades and the market is now saturated with cheap, cloyingly sweet synthetic abominations. It would be tempting, in a way, to lay some blame for the current impoverished state of men's designer fragrances on Animale Animale. But that would also be unfair - it would be like blaming grunge for the horror that was nu-metal, or Aramis New West for the blandness of Nautica Voyage. Instead, Animale Animale should be judged on its own merits, not what it spawned. And as it is, Animale Animale is a very nice scent indeed.

It opens very sweet - not cloyingly so, but still unmistakably sugary to a nose like mine, which has become more accustomed to fougeres and other aromatics. The main note is honey, along with fruity notes of pineapple and banana-like ylang-ylang. I'm not a fan of the fruity notes, but fortunately they fade within the first hour, along with some of the sweetness. What remains is a creamy, almost malty blend of honey, vanilla, amber and nutmeg. It's all held together by a robust undertone of patchouli and tobacco, which lasts through the dry down. The scent is well-rounded and appropriately delicious.

Longevity is beastly, as the name would imply. Projection is within an arm's length, which I'm grateful for, especially during the opening. Any more projection would be cloying, and potentially offensive to those around you. Don't get me wrong, Animale Animale isn't the least bit offensive - it's just that nobody should have to suffocate on someone else's fumes.

I have to say, I love the packaging, too. That Ziggy Stardust lightning bolt, the golden juice, the green marbled plastic and the Animale Animale name are all so evocative. One man's cheapie is another man's treasure.

Certainly for the gourmand lovers. If you like sweet/honey type scents then I'm sure you'll like this one. Pretty safe scent so don't worry about being too overbearing. Very cheap too, so not a whole lot lost if you don't like it. Good stuff!

GabrielCupim

Someone will hardly dislike this scent, it's a great choice for a all around purpose perfume.

It's really nice, the pinaple and honey got really notable in my skin

Projects and lasts for a while too, above most of the choices at it's price.

A nice blind buy for almost anyone!

RodMessAnd

A very good choice for those who are seeking a cheap but still nice and pleasant fragrance. The dominant notes in this one are honey and pineapple, which gives to me the feeling of being inside a fancy bakery. I don't see only men wearing it, in my opinion is a unisex fragrance. Use it during the winter time and you'll smell really good. I recommend for you guys who love the gourmand vibe in fragrances.

libou

Similar to angel women but very very different to a*men

slemsheydi

I just bought it for CAD$70 at my local perfume store, kinda disappointed to find out that its actually more expensive than people say, but nonetheless, I adore this frag. It would've been better if I got it for cheaper.

Hatta

sweet, honey and a smell a little bit of tobacco.. perfect for cold weather, last about 10 hours on me..

According to sites that discuss fragrances, there is no specific order to define accurately the evolution of their notes, but I trying to understand them could do a split from my perception "amateur". Its opening is a lemon juice sweetened by honey put on a table where there is a jar of freshly harvested Lavenders, and located nearby, pineapple slices preserved, produced of homemade form, there is a ardidozinho in its opening and I believe by account Galbanum and nutmeg too, but something that is not intolerable, a nice combination. Hence, their environment consists of a floral, highlighting the Ylang Ylang, Jasmine and some roses seem to go wrong in the fragrance because of the muffled aspect, dusty presenting as evolution (it seems to me that these roses were stuck in some place, I feel that feeling in your heart). Throughout its evolution Animale Animale for men as opposed behaves the genus to which it was designed and launched in the perfume market, many up to resemble the acclaimed Angel and a few more of Mugler family, ditto, however, do not see much similarity as well, matter of subjectivity in perception it. Finally, the fragrance ends being more manly and interesting with the bitter wood Cedar associated with the eastern aspect of Sandalwood, can you feel a vanilla middle chocolatey well aquecidinha and smoke notes for Tobacco crossing all this gourmand amalgam with oriental vibe besides setting and exhale above the 12 h easily, it is still citric throughout its evolution. The House Animale is more concerned with the release of clothing and accessories, perfumes for they are just only appendages; the brand is of Indonesian origin and did not find much about the details of his creations for perfumery. In this sense, I consider Animale Animale for men a fragrance that deserves attention for being a landmark with its distinctive sweetness of being, being well prepared, firm and sure!

A true gem!

Caramel / Honey / Vanilla / Fruit / little mint / and little tobacco
projection and longevity are great. lasts around 15 hours.
The dry down is unbelievable.
You can't get bored of this fragrance, it will put you in a good mood.

Highly Recommended.

Perfume Gourmand very good , highly praised by females, with excellent projection and fixation, only not advise using it on hot days

the biggest " problem " it is that is cheap and many people turn up their noses at him, but they forget that this fragrance launched in 1994 was an innovative fragrance that only now the Thierry Mugler came to create something like the malt pure and pure havane . The funny thing is that there are people who say that the Animale Animale for men is a copy of Pure Havane , Pure Malt and the masculine Angel, but they say it suffers from myopia and memory , for the ANIMALE ANIMALE FOR MEN was creating a lot before the famous perfumes THIERRY mugler .

Nope Not for me, worst blind buy ever smell like grandpa! well atleast for me its a very mature scent for winter only!

smellavision

Without having a sample of A*Men at the moment for a side-by-side comparison, my olfactory memory tells me that this scent is pretty close to Mugler's original A*Men.
What intrigues me even further, is that this scent is supposedly launched in 1994, while A*Men was not launched until 1996. Just goes to show what marketing and advertising can do, as far as I know A*Men has been praised for years for being one of the first gender benders and male gourmands.
Even if the bottle is a little tacky, the wonderful smell of lavender and burnt sugar with musky honey and some vanilla really does smell good. Warm, ambery and fruity and the same time.

If you're on a tight budget and looking for a rich sweet gourmand that's perfect for christmas time - and even has similarities with A*Men or Pure Malt - look no further. For a price of around $20-25 online this is a no brainer.

------> BLIND BUY be cause of the RAVES below me. (You folks let me down!)

I like the marbleized plastic cap & face on the bottle but when I blasted this baby out I was like "Whooosh........... a gutter version of Tom Ford's Black Orchid or some other high-end coco-concoction ".

This smells so synthetic and so cheap and so cloying that I decided to spray it all over my furniture to keep the pets away.

This really smells disgusting . (I cannot imagine wearing this in a work-place).

"Hello Fragrance Graveyard? I have another corpse for you. Please pick it up today. I'm leaving it out on the curb. And hurry!"

One of the top WORST men's frags I have reviewed on here.

JackNapier402

I bought this based on the reviews and I'm highly disappointed. I'm at a lost for words but it reminds me of another fragrance that I've smelled though I can't remember what.

Ryanmmas26

To start off, this is a very under rated scent ! And yes its a cheaper alternative to AMEN or PURE HAVANE.

To everyone that says this smells cheap I have to disagree. In the opening this is very synthetic and smells like a very cheap knock off of AMEN but after 2 mins this morphs into a gorgeuos scent.

In the mid this goes from smelling like Amen to smelling like Pure Havane. They are very similar but the main differences is Pure Havanes main note is the tobacco with Honey being the secondary note and Animales main note is the honey with the pineapple being the secondary note.

So in a nutshell this is a very sweet honey scent with pineapple lifting it up and giving it a bit of freshness. There are a lot of notes listed but honestly on my skin all I smell is honey and a synthetic smelling pineapple.

The drydown what you get is a chocolate powder like smell thats very pleasant ! For such a cheap scent this smells very expensive :)

Performance on this is great as well ! It lasts on me 12-16 hours and projects moderately for 4 hours. Just when you think its gone you will walk around and it pops back up.lol

Overall rating 8 out of 10 ! Very good smell, great performance and amazing scent for the price

The only reason it doesnt get a higher rating is because even though its a good scent its nothing amazing and although it stacks up against most gourmands I still wouldnt say its as good as New Harleem or Pure Havane

The drydown is

Rerik

Animale Animale is not like Pure Havane or A Men, but it´s like a gourmand version of Creed Aventus.
Pineapple with honey and vanilla.

Edit:
Now I got a bottle of TM Pure Havane.
Pure Havane wins that game. Both have nothing common. Animale Animale is like I said a gourmand Aventus. Pure Havane is a much softer, rounder gourmand.

Really love this one here, more than 10 hours Huge and nice longevity/projection tremendous, Highly recommended.

phillip202

It's caramel, honey, vanilla, pineapple...OMG. Its sweet and warm at the same time, I love it! It last about 10 hours on me, but 3-4 hours after applying it sits close to skin but you can still get hints of it. My Rating:

Scent: 8.5/10
Longevity: 9/10
Sillage: 6.5/10
Projection: 7/10
Price: 9/10

Pare159

Original and unrefined but has inspired many houses. Try the mugler line and you will see what I mean after experiencing this. Beast and 6 hrs longevity.

MASTER1947

perfect for office use.
longevity 4-5 hours.

Smells same like A*MAN ..

RobbieX

Chopshop has it just right. Listen, this is a rich, sweet mellow and really lovely scent which is full of character. If you love a sweet vanilla fragrance, Animale is one you've got to try!

chopshop

I couldn't be more pleased with this frag. For the price its amazing. The honey note on this one is very unique and plays great with the vanilla, pineapple, and patchouli. The amber and sandalwood bring it home. I get the A*Men comparison. I guess you could say its a tame and more sophisticated version of A*Men. A*Men is one of my all time favorite frags and this fits right into my collection nicely. I have it in my work rotation. Between this, A*Men, and Cuba Paris Prestige, I have this entire spectrum covered. Done.

RobbieX

Make no mistake.....This compares with the greatest of Mugler's fragrances. Potent and tons of character and GORGEOUS!

Dr.Scrotes

Blah blah we all know what it's compared to and yes it's quite close, but each are special.

Animale Animale is like an A*Men you can wear to work without pissing people off.

Same vibe, less intense, less rich, lower projection but also not as imposing and a touch fresher than A*men.

My favourite out of the two will always be A*Men but I will purchase both again for sure.

This must go on your bargain buy shelf.

karlovonamesti

Let's not kid ourselves into thinking that a smoother gourmand exists for under $25, because to put it plainly, this is as good as it gets in that cost bracket. Animale Animale is a bit like Lapidus Pour Homme meets Angel (and to a lesser extent, A*Men), its big pineapple, jasmine, and ylang accord joining forces with equally large honey and lavender notes, all resting gracefully on a vanillic sandalwood base. There are hints of A*Men here also, but only in the sense that AA "masculinizes" the Angel concept by adding pineapple and heady lavender. There's still that boozy patchouli essence at AA's core, which is what ties everything together and creates a truly pleasant olfactory experience. I own this and A*Men. The latter is definitely a more interesting wear, with its intensely odd tar note and stronger patchouli (plus peppermint) in the mix. But honestly I think AA is just as good, albeit different enough to warrant owning both, and I'd add that it's a perfect alternative to something like Rochas Man, for example, which many find to be too weak and not woodsy enough.

ssheth92

Blind buy, bought very cheap. This one to me smells very nice. I get the honey, booziness and also some powderniness (like cuba gold). Unfortunately, I did not realize that this frag is considered mature. In fact went to subway the other day (while having this on), and the cashier told me I smelled like her dad. makes me a bit hesitant to wear it in public more since I am only 23, but still love the smell!

~9/10

NobleRoman

AA was a blind buy for me. Lots of notes are listed, but I only get a few: honey , caramel, and a slight woody note. Yes it's sweet , but not overly sweet and long lasting. I wish I could pick up the pineapple but it's non-existent on me. Pretty good longevity at 5+ hours. IMO, AA is worth a blind buy .

Molko

I received Animale today. In the first 2 minutes I feel like a fresh and mature man fragrance but after this shock it turns like a known smell, omg it's like Angel in flat edition, not Amen nor Havane:)
I'm glad to purchase it, because it's very unisex, not a real man scent, the bottle is very ugly and cheap, but I don't care cause the juice is so good.
This is my most complimented fragrance after Pure Havane:)
Sillage and longevity is moderate on me.
Generally I layer with Pure Leather and smells like Amen...

update: after 4 hours the drydown of Amen and Animale are similar, but you can feel the difference, Amen is more refined patchouli dusty stuff

Shaheen

Animale Animale. Funny name. This fragrance's notes are all over the place. Honey, vanilla, pineapple, patchouli, amber, sandalwood, oakmoss, musk, lavender, nutmeg. One would think something like this wouldn't smell that good, but strangely enough this smells amazing. A gourmand reminiscent of the original A*Men, but with a different vibe. A prominent pineapple note in the top, and oakmoss and musk in the base.

Mr.Bobby.N

I've been wanting this for a long time (as it's impossible to get here in Australia), and finally got it.

I have mixed feelings on this... Basically, I'm not a fan of sweet food/fruit smelling fragrances like the Thierry Mugler range (which this reflects), but ANIMALE-ANIMALE has some 'classic' notes in it that I do like.

It's not a go-to fragrance for me, but I do recognise quality when I smell it. If you ever wished A-Men had a little more old-school masculinity in it, then this will put a smile on your face.

After reading the notes in fragrantica and reading the reviews. I had to get myself a bottle of this stuff. And to my surprise (actually I wasn't surprised I had faith in it already) it was a beautiful mixture of pineapple, leather, vanilla, honey, and woods on my skin. The sprayer didn't smell that great but on the skin it's breathtaking. Another fabulous buy that I can add to my collection.

jivanshi

@SMELLY1992: you mean that this fragrance was CREATED by the marketing staff at Parlux? No wonder so many say it smells cheap! I have seen that guy's comment and I have refrained myself then, but now, that you are reiterating it, I must say: a fragrance is CREATED by a perfumer, not by some marketing hot shot who has the nerve to take credit for it!

namak

I definitely get the Pure Havane comparisons.

For me, it does not start like Pure Havane, but after half an hour..they are almost identical..IF you are not doing a side by side. There are still differences, but they are negligible in my opinion.

Similar longevity (this might actually be better) and projection.

Highly recommended, if you are looking for an excellent gourmand or a Pure Havane substitute.

Oh yes, it's around $22 online.

Darkwave1

By far the most respected , affordable fragrance in my very new (6 months into collecting) fragrance collection ! Going to be the first full size bottle out of 20 or so that I will finish ! Being new to the fragrance community , this was the first Gourmand that I have ever smelled. All the colognes I have owned since my high school years were the type that department stores pushed .... summer scents ! I had no idea at the age of 38 , how deep the rabbit hole truly goes !!! I love my new hobby and Animale Animale helped open my eyes ! I will always have this fragrance in my collection :)

newbee3114

This fragrance is pretty great for its time. Love the chemistry that these notes construct. A late fall/winter fragrance.Three thumbs up.. great job animale animale.....

Update: if you try to wear this in the summer time please be aware that one good spray is enough. I tried it in the mid summer evening and it smelled great but i sprayed 1 in the chest, 1 behind the neck, and 1 on both elbow heat source and after a few hours i started to get a headache. After 6 hours the smell was still there. Great cologne but i will stick to winter/fall time...

SMELLY1992

stop saying it ressambles A*Men or A*Men flankers... here's what the creator of this fragrance has to say, he wrote this in the end of the page - ''It's always a charge to see brands you develop years later being worn and discussed. I developed the original Animale for Men while VP Marketing at Parlux in 1992/93, and as a follow-up in 1994 we launched the Animale Animale for Men. The original Angel for Women was taking the world by storm, and I set out as a brief to develop the new Animale Animale for Men as a take-off for men on the original Angel women with a several tweaks to push it more masculine. This was before AMen came out. The Animale Animale for Men scent was always rich and full-bodied, complex and meaty - just like how I liked [and still like] men's fragrances with plenty of great ingredients. It's been almost 20 years since launch now and I can't recall the perfume house which won the brief, but I was working with Florasynth, Robertet, Takasago, Firmenich and Creations Aromatique at the time, so it was one of those five. I don't know who makes the essential oil for Animale Animale for Men now, but I would hope and guess that it is still pretty good stuff. Manufacturers make many puzzling decisions, but generally won't go out of their way to spoil a good thing. For the print ad we rented a real tiger from Lion Country Safari and shot a painted up male model with the cat in the bush. But that's a story for another day. I wanted to name the brand Animalaso instead of Animale Animale but lost out. Enjoy'' SO THIS IS ANGEL FOR WOMEN-LIKE

Chicago Tony T

The absolute bang for your buck gourmand without a doubt. It's unisex and is basically Angel for men with a light pineapple note added. Patchouli dominates but not as loud as Angel. Also kinda hard to overspray this one. Best for cool temps and nights.

mfeezy

I blind brought this about two years ago and LOVED it. But I traded it for Bleecker Street. Saw a 1.7 for sale on Ebay for $12.99 and quickly snatched it up.

It's an excellent strong masculine gourmand. It reminds me an A*Men flanker but I'm not sure which one...

Rio~sswi

Nice scent anyway but cant beat Rochas, GPI, CH Men in my list~

brent0529

It's not A*Men that this fragrance is so similar to, it's the women's Angel that it more closely resembles...On a scale of 1-10 where women's Angel is a 1 (feminine), and A*Men is a 10 (masculine), Animale Animale is about a 4 or 5...And I'm definitely not saying that compared to all fragrances A*Men is super masculine, but compared to Animale Animale it is.

daynierds

there is a big discussion out there on this being a flanker to pure malt...I am not 100% sure about it, but yes, they're very similar...not identical of course...I feel animale animale to be a BIT dated and less refined than pure malt...as for the longevity...8 plus hous on me, sillage...just good enough....for the price it is actually a great buy...If you have pure malt...do not bother in buying animale animale....if on the contrary you have animale animale...pure malt will always be a step forward...however it will indeed have many many similarities...good luck with it

Despite of being a 90's fragrance, Animale Animale has both feet and inspiration in the 80's, evidently. And yet, it appeals to the present generation of young men who love Thierry Mugler's Angel and its variations that please so many nowadays.

I was 17 or 18 years old when I started wearing this lovely fragrance. It would make so happy and carefree. Used to wear it to school! I still think it is a nice deal for teens, young ones and the young spirited in general. It smells deep yet clean. Sweet yet fresh. Very good. I miss it and miss the way it made me feel.

There is a lot of honey, vanilla and tobacco going on this perfume. Its fruity notes are adorable. The floral notes are awesome. Although it surely has this creamy, sweet side, it brings, as said before, some fresh aspects too.

It is a low price fragrance, but it smells more expensive than it really costs.

Warning: it can be headache inducing. Wear it lightly and it will work in a lovely and seductive way on you.

This fragrance is just gorgeous! I'm glad I bought a full bottle.

Caramel, tobacco, and chocolate are greatly put together with lavender to create such an amazing addictive elixir! Pure classy and endless happiness turned into perfume.

Overall score: 10/10

UPDATE: Today I love this fragrance even more that I did yesterday...The girl I'm dating just loved it!!! :)

Neomax3

A blind buy base on the reviews here.. After Encre Noire disappointment of its longevity wanna try something more intense and hoping Animale Animale is a good choice.. Positive things first.. Brilliant opening.. good combination of pineapple, lemon and lime.. as said its a very good gourmand scent that brings pleasures.. on negative side.. fragrance is great just wish it last longer on my skin.. God I need something more intense!

tots_eminem

Animale definitely be A*Men's grandfather, I do see the similar in the design from both the scent and the bottle

And just how do you know that? This has been around longer then most of the colognes that you might be thinking this is an imitation of.

Also, do you know for a fact that 90% of the votes are false? Did you take a poll and I happen to miss out?

HUELE A MIERDA D MARRANO Q ASCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

StinkOMatic

Finally got mine yesterday, here is my take on it. The open is a little sweet, not as sweet as i thought it may have been, there is a harsh spicyness to it for me that lasts for about 30 minutes to an hour that gives it that masculine smell, then it dries down into a nice sweet smell, but not too sweet. it lasts well over 8 hours on my skin. Overall not too bad, wouldn't say it's as good as everyone says, but it is nice.

xbcraig

A blind buy and I payed the price. How can anyone compare this to Pure Malt or A Men ? I own both and they are in a different league. Sample this before buying !

horus11c

Blind buy based on reviews, got 3.3 for $19. Really happy with the purchase, wife is not a big fan of A men but liked this one. smells sweet, not too complex and longevity is very reasonable. for less than 20 bucks this is great bargain and is even better than Angel products in my opinion.

Update: Pure Havane is much better. The cheap make up of this frag is starting to show as i use it. Would def. not buy again. That is if i can finish the bottle.

StinkOMatic

i am blind buying this, just waiting on my package to arrive from overseas. I got it purely based on reviews i have read. Im not expecting too much from this though. I will add my thoughts once i get it

I really love this Juice, ,the top is one of the best ive ever smelt and the lovely chocolate drydown is just fantastic..
my advise is to buy, because i feel its gonna be like escadas magnetism in a few years and start to sell for crazy prices because its discontinued..get it now while its cheap...
tip,,spray animale animale on neck and on your chest put a single spray of dhi,,im a chocolate monster

Smyle12

People like this stuff. I don't know why. I gave my bottle to my Dad after spraying it onto a paper towel and having the sharpness of the cheap and synthetic tobacco note linger in my nose for a solid hour or so. I smells NOTHING AT ALL like Rochas Man btw. If anything, it smells like a cheap, sharp, almost astringent version of A*Men marred by the pungent smell of cheap tobacco. Yuck. I'm sure I won't be getting any fragrantica balloons for this one just like the last time I tried to review it, (despite it being spot on) as everyone seems to get their rocks off on this dated smelling precursor to A*Men. Surprise me though. :) Save a little extra money and buy A*Men. It's a classic for a reason. This juice costs $20. Also... for a reason.

ph4tk0nt0ll3r

I really want to blind by this, however i have never smelled any of thierry mugler's stuff. Could someone compare this to rochas man?

What a perfume!! Honestly, everyone should have at least one bottle of Animale Animale!
This week, after reading a lot of positive reviews about it, I decided to buy a bottle. I grew more and more anxious to smell it but once I had piano class, I couldn’t open it till the time I got home. I was afraid that I wouldn’t like it, but as soon as I sprayed on my skin…WOW!!! Wonderful!!! Love at first sight!!
It’s the perfect combination between vanilla, honey and tobacco. It's sweet but not cloying!! Sillage and projection are great too!!
An excellent masculine gourmand that will fill you with joy!!

RobbieX

A lovely, sweet, masculine scent with lots of character. Deep honey, vanilla and patchouli. Longevity and silage excellent. It's just gorgeous!

Deefit

In several reviews on Animale I heard people say that if you don't like A*Men you could still like Animale, I actually find this to be true! It is sweet, but not overly sweet.

I found that the notes listed on Basenotes differ from the ones listed here on Fragrantica. What I picked up in the top seems like a combination of honey and pineapple to me. Underneath I find some chocolate, though it isn't mentioned in the notes here in Fragrantica. Also some tabacco. And something that reminds me of amber, though I am not sure that is really in there. Could be the mixture of notes? It reminds me a bit of Ralph Lauren's Polo Explorer, which also has amber in it. Vanilla is lingering softly in the background.

But I do have to say, this is not as strong in sillage as I would have expected. Maybe that is just my skin, it seems I always get less sillage than the charts here on Fragrantica usually indicate.

The opening is very nice, sweet and lovely. But the drydown on this, that's where its power is to me. Very mature, classic, stylish scent. I already like it and this is just the first time I'm wearing it.

So, all in all, is it worth the money? To me, it most definitely is! For this money, I don't mind going a little crazy with the sprayer next time, to see what happens with sillage. And with Animale Animale my succesful blind buy streak continues, hehe!

/edit: There are a lot of different opinions on the subject of its similarity to A*Men Pure Havane and Pure Malt. To me, Animale Animale is somewhere in between Pure Havane and Pure Malt. Both of the Muglers share similarities to Animale Animale but still they are clearly three different fragrances. If you'd smell the three of them blind, it's easy to tell Pure Malt and Pure Havane are related to each other.

Keep in mind that Animale Animale was launched over 15 years before either of the Mugler flankers but hands down, it's not as warm as Pure Havane. Where Pure Malt is more fruity sweet, Pure Havane is warmer than the other two with its vanilla and cocoa heart.

/edit2: This reminds me of Thierry Muglers Angel a lot! Or Angel reminds me of this. The first time I smelled Angel, I immediately had Animale Animale in my head. At least during the opening.

fire_fist

A blind buy based on all the positive reviews I read and, honestly, I just DONT understand why this has been marketed as a department store scent, this stuff is MILES ahead of that class range, i dare say even better than SOME mid class scents!

A very solid masculine gourmand scent. Up top i get this sweet luscious honey with a slight hint of vanilla, which then transitions into a musky note, finally settling down into a comfortable chocolate with slight hint of woods and oakmoss.

The projection and sillage were really good, and it easily lasts all day. I was surprised it doesn't have that cloying factor you tend to get with cheap fragrances, but like i said, MILES ahead! Perfect for the cooler days.

Lock1454

*I do not have a nose that is well trained - this is my rudimentary opinion of this scent*

Like others have said, this smells very similar to A*Men sans the harsh tar note at the start. It isn't the longevity/projection beast that A*Men is, but it does last a very good ~7 hours with good projection, people WILL smell you. I actually prefer this level of omph, I don't really want people smelling me before I come up the stairway and through the front door :P I have had individuals comment on my smelling nice and telling me that I was wearing A*Men (although my mother suggested I smelled like her Angel perfume -_-).

Overall this is a smooth sweet scent that has a nice blend of chocolate, vanilla and touches from the floral spectrum. It leans slightly towards the male side of things but could perform as a unisex for those women who could pull it off.

Applied sparingly, I could see this performing as an office scent during the cooler months, however this is primarily geared to nights out during the fall, winter and milder spring evenings.

A good cologne that is made all the better by it's comparatively low price. This is not a poor man's version of A*Men, it's another option that is comparable which happens to carry a more affordable price tag. It is a safe buy if you enjoy a sweet, chocolate, powdery cologne that is a very nice middle of the road scent between A*Men/Pure Malt/Pure Havane. If you aren't sure which of those you prefer or on a tight budget, I highly recommend getting this.

mtheory8

A*men without the tar note for sure. Its also a little sweeter but has all the DNA similarities as A*Men. Upside? Lets see... 1/3 of the price for what I think is a slightly better smell.

There will be people who say this smells "cheap". But the fact is, even some of the reviewers on youtube reviewing have a hard time telling them apart.

If we put these two in unlabeled bottles, take away prices. I think more people will prefer AA over A*Men. I personally don't think A*Men smells more expensive...

jht4060

I love this stuff. It is comforting, sweet but not too sweet, modest but just complex enough to hold your attention, and dirt cheap. Even the goofy bottle, with its cheap plastic clip-on front, has come to please me from its association with such a nice fragrance. I got it almost on a whim and it has come to win my affections over a number of expensive sweet gourmands, including A*men. If you gave it a classy bottle and called it "Vanille Orientale" there would probably be some market for it at 10 times the price. (Though this may say more about the wildly inflated price of niche perfumes than it says about Animale Animale.)

There are some nice fruit notes up top, gradually giving way to a honey, nutmeg, and cocoa middle, and then a gentle vanilla, amber, and wood base. It is lovely throughout, and it is fairly strong and lasts well.

havardize

Very, Very, Very much sugar. Reminds a Pure Havane, but with honey greatly exaggerated, mixed with citric notes providing a qualm.

Cmf

This scent certainly is not too complex. It is masculine, it is simple. Imagine a sweet gourmand with the most dominant hints being a smooth chocolate and vanilla coupled with a darker patchouli and woodsy note I can't quite pick out. Overall a great scent for virtually no cost. This will last you 6 hrs and smell a sweet masculine throughout.

EloquentOgre

It seems as if there is a tremendous amount of variety in how people perceive this fragrance. What stands out to me is a strong vanilla, with a sugary sweetness, which never gets cloying thankfully. Beneath I can catch pineapple, and tobacco too, but beyond that, the rest is just too subtle for my nose to distinguish. Definitely some flowers and woody notes, but I can't really put my finger on any of them. It's a very pleasant, alluring fragrance. Sweet, strong, quite noticeable, in a positive way. Perhaps a bit too noticeable for an office or work setting though, I'd recommend against wearing it in such a situation.

On my skin, projection is good to excellent, lasting a good 6 hours, and silage is extremely good, I was leaving trails of it for the duration. Overall, I found the strength of the EdT to put many EdPs to shame. It was not what I expected for such an inexpensive fragrance. Kudos to Animale for that. Just be careful, though. Because of the strength and sweetness, too high a dose can easily get cloying and overpowering.

This isn't a clone of the original A*men by any means, if I had to compare it to anything from the A*men line, I'd say it's closest to Pure Malt. Honestly though, I think Animale Animale for Men really stands on its own. While it is definitely a strong, sweet, gourmand, evening/night, fall/winter/cold weather sort of scent, it is definitely distinct enough from the more common ones to be noticed. And for the price, really surprisingly good.

guitarravolador

Love vanilla! kinda get that dated feeling from the tobacco, but I actually enjoy it. Lasts a long time and works well with my skin, unlike other frags... My skin is a scent killer :(

HORRIDFRAG

A*Men is refined, so does this! (who could doubt that?)
Animale Animale, oh what a name, and what a wonderful and great fragrance it is!
Great value, great quality, and who cares the cheap looking bottle? I'd buy this stuff should the juice is filled in a plastic spray or cough-syrup bottle!
This fragrance deserve every single praise in the thread, not because the 'brand' it carries, nor its cheap retail price, but because of its great superb scent. Love it!

raiyanhasin

Although people call this 'modern', I must say this is more of an oldschool scent. I have smelled this back in the days when I was a kid. That being said, it is not outdated at all, but all-time classic. One of the best gourmand fragrances ever created with a gingery-fougere vibe. Spices, cigar, and honey-amber which I find sour contrary to the general views which states them being sweet.

The pineapple does not create a fruity, but rather a woody smell along with sandalwood and nutmeg.
The overall smokiness and something reminiscent of incense creates a seductive fragrance that is a lasting and projecting powerhouse.

I used to smell it on my grandfather and on my uncles in the mid and late 90s. Wasn't a big fan of the smell, but now, I'm addicted to it. Can't stop smelling in on me. Anywhere you go, you are going to smell unique from all the PRs and Armanis. Will get you noticed and will earn you compliments.

Similar to A*Men minus the overly chocolaty-date smell that would make you smell like Arabian coffee which is nauseating. Even if A*Men started selling for 20 something dollars like Animale Animale, I'd by this over any Thierry Muglers any day. Does not smell like anything like the alcohol notes of Pure Malt, but I do get similarities with Pure Havane.

This is a masterpiece (made before any of the Thierry Muglers came out) and one of the best kept secrets in my arsenal. Do not let the price fool you, but do not blindbuy...this is not for everyone and not for kids. As for me, I'll keep buying as long as they make it.

The woodsy-spicey cigar is to die for! Easily better suited as my signature scent than Zara Gold, but I have to reserve this beauty for those special occasions where I need to make a statement.

UPDATE: Previously I stated that this was a longevity and projection monster. I was right about the longevity, but regarding projection, it is just too unpredictable to have a standard. Sometimes it projects like a monster, but other times you have to sniff real close to detect it. Meaning under certain conditions, it sits very close to the skin. This requires body heat to be activated to its fullest potential...so remember to wear in on your skin rather than your clothes.

UPDATE 2 : ANIMALE ANIMALE has got THE worst sprayer that I've ever had to come across. I Have seen 2 dollar hairsprays spray better than this...you need to press it firmly and repeatedly 5-6 times to get juice out that is worth of just one good spray. and the overall bottle quality is shabby (not that I should complain...only 20 bucks)...shame such a beast comes out of such an atrocious opening.

DJM

My bottle states it's made in the USA!

TheLumineri

Best $20 ever spent! So pleasant! Very good quality without ripping into your pocket. A MUST-HAVE for any collection.

jennix

Awesome. It reminds me of childhood cakes, but also smells really ... honey and vanilla, vanilla and honey with delicate rose scent. Amazingly beautiful

royalLionheart

Blind bought this even though i'm not a fan of sweet fragrances but just had a feeling i should try this one so just got it delivered and.. It is delicious!! Winter only for me, classy, interesting very addictive when dry. When I first sprayed it I just got a sharp pineapple, zesty and animalistic sex scent happening but develops nicely, nice dark chocolate powder in there. Impressive, wonder what the sillage and longevity will be like. Not to be layered! Hit the skin once on neck and chest.
Hmm won't need my Body Kouros after smelling this :/

trickykid300

this is the best bang for your buck, woman like the spicyness and sweetness. Honey has natural hormones in it, because it is basically made from the sex organs of a bee. It is better than theirry mugler's angel man becuase the projection doesnt fill the room but it powers through the winter, this is my go to einter cologne, defintely worth the 20 bucks.
Unless you want to pay $200 for slightly bettr projection, buy angel man.

Mprodigy

Does anybody know who designed AA?

Mprodigy

I bought a bottle of AA yesterday. Based on the reviews I gave it a chance and I have to say that when I tried it was love at first sight. For example, last night I went to a meeting and throughout the night I could feel different notes. At first something like A * men but not so pervasive and caramelized, then pineapple predominated, later cocoa and today when I woke up something if a tasty honey was there. The longevity is great (at least 8 hours) and also the sillage. I think this fragrance works with your stomach because you get hungry, is very sweet and made me want to smell my wrist all the time and even take a bite. Not tried it on a date, but I imagine the sweet girls will love this one. Could someone tell me if you received compliments from women? Applause for Animale Animale!!!.

moftahyounis

The most complemented fragrance in my big collection
My wife and sister love it and complement me every time
I can't live with out it.This is a masterpiece .
Overall score: 11/10 it exceeds 10 because of the price .

halftwintowers

It took me 2 long months to find a way to like this fragrance. Initially, I was turned way off by the oak moss and tobacco in this fragrance - it smelled very dated. But after awhile (maybe the notes finally settled after the treatment it received during shipment) I kinda like this fragrance with no more than 2 sprays (1 neck and 1 chest). You cannot overspray this one and you cannot spray the same area twice, this gets too cloying and too sweet - a real headache inducer. With two sprays, I get the honey, pineapple, vanilla, "chocolate", and oak moss mixing to form a real relaxing gourmand fragrance, meant to be worn on a cold night with a thick sweater.

Smyle12

Most over-hyped fragrance ever? Probably. I gave mine to my dad. He doesn't have the world's greatest taste.

Blaze00

I just recieved my cologne 10 min ago. Beautiful !!!!! For a cheapie from 1994 i am very amazed. Contrary to some people it doesnt smell dated but very refined, classy . You cant just put this with a t-shirt. The shirt'n'suit is mandatory. It begins with a huuuge blast of tobacco mixed with a mix on vanilla-honey (a little). Then slowly dry down to a juicy honey-vanilla with some pinches of tobacco. All this mix can remind you of dark chocolate which is very good !!!!

I never smelled Pure havane but i can see this one less agressive than A*men. It stills have power.

Tips : Layer this with Axe dark temptation shampoo and shower gel.... Chocolate man is alive !!!!!!

8.5 / 10

kavi

My skin did not agree too well with this, I got a dated vibe from it and that kinda put me off. If you get a chance, try before you buy.

RobbieX

This scent is special, it has everything I like in a fragrance: potency, soapyness, freshness, spicyness, sillage and character. It is a little like Amen with more honey and it's smoother. A beautiful oriental for men! Gotta be in my top 10.

andy

pure malt sweetness with some tobacco thrown in and a little bit of chocolate with less sillage than thierry mugler

I think its good if ur on a budget or not into collecting but if u are a hardcore collector it will probably be lacking in smell for ur collection

Smyle12

To Mr. deesy. Please do not feel the need to project your own self image onto other people. Others may find it bothersome if not immature. Thank you, good sir! This fragrance reeks. The sharp, pungent, tobacco note in it sticks in my nose and it also contains a very offensive, feral, animalic note that smells much like old fecal matter. Perhaps it smells much like my former review as well, dees', so just ignore it and/or avoid it all together, 'k? That way you won't have the desire to hurl unfounded accusations about others around the web or even to smell nice either. ;-) Hmmmmmm... I DO seem to forget the part of my last review of this fragrance where I insulted YOU personally, although I'm also going to leave that part out of this one as well. If you cannot afford A*Men or simply desire the older, dated, $20 blueprint of the Mugler classic, then, yes, by all means, buy this!! Otherwise... DO NOT. I gave my own bottle of Animale Animale to my father, and every time he wears it, I can't even tolerate it AFTER he has left the house. If you want the REAL DEAL, pony up boys and girls! If not, then giddy-yap!!! And git' along, lil' ponies! Yeeeeehaaaaaa!!! ;D

vicente.zacatenco

Es una fragancia agradable, predomina mucho el aroma a piña, este olor es similar al que se percibe al abrir una lata de piña en almibar. El aroma que se queda de fondo al pasar las horas es muy agradable.

rajeev

a proud owner of this magic potion in a bottle of 100ml. use it very sparngly... but guaranteed, every time i wear it, atleast 2/3 people ask wot m i wearing.

lisa.m.kasper

First let me say, that my 25 year old son does not ever wear cologne. I bought him some "F" by Ferragamo, but I have to remind him to wear it, and he does so begrudgingly.

I gave him a very small decant of Hermessence Ambre Narguile Hermes and he LOVES the Hermes. But it is hard to get and at present, you can only get it off ebay for too much, or via the Hermes website where you can find it as a part of a "you pick the scent" collection of four 15ml flankers for $145 U.S. So I went on a search for the main notes he loves in the Hermes which is the pipe tobacco, honey, and apple pie scent.

Ok, so, I know nothing about men's fragrances. I don't test them often, if at all, and so I bought my son's bottle of Animale Animale based off of the reviews here on Fragrantica and the similarity (somewhat) to some of the Hermes notes.

When I handed the bottle to my son, I could sense him shrinking inside, like "OOOOh god, WHY is she buying me MORE when I don't even want what I have?".

I spritzed it on him, he indulged me a sniff, and then he shrugged and said, "meh".

I was bummed, sprayed some on myself out of curiosity, and then placed it on his bathroom counter.

The next day he walked up to me and said "Hey, that new cologne you bought me is really good." To say the least I was shocked. "Really?" I asked... and proceeded to tell him about "Drydown evolution".

He nodded and said, "Yeah, I remember you telling me that before, and later last night, I kept getting this really nice scented whiff of myself and it dried down really nice. I like it! I'm going to wear it".

I asked if it was like the Hermes, and he said "No, it is really nothing like that, but its really good". I told him that some aspects where the same, and that we now know what notes he favors and he should look for colognes with those notes when experimenting in the future.

SO... for what it is worth, I can attest that this appeals to my son and I found it rather pleasant as well.

I think it is lovely when you can find a gem amongst the inexpensive scents out there. So, if you are on a budget, and you want a "for sure" great scented blind buy, I say go for this.

P.S. My son later asked if I would buy him a "back up bottle" because he is worried it will get discontinued.

Wow...!! There is a kid after his mother's own heart!!

Cheers!

Cologne Junkie72

To me this smells exactly like Tomorrow for men by Avon. A well made fragrance. Great scent and decent longevity. Not bad for any fragrance collection.

deesy

To Mr Smyle,

I do not own this but looking at purchasing this for my partner because cannot get hold of AMen in Aust. However, Mr Smyle, if you are going to review a fragrance then JUST REVIEW the fragrance. There is no need to make reference to weather or not someone can afford A*Men. Your arrogance is somewhat disturbing. My guess is you need to purchase a fragrance that will get you some attention because your personality certainly does not do it for you, or maybe your just very unattractive.

bonarelli

u just cant go wrong with this stuff in any way.

andy

its a great sweet gourmand similar to that of pure malt with some chocolate and the succulent pineapple works perfectly with the chocolate and honey and gives a nice smell.

I am a big fan of this one i have worn it 2 days in a row to work and it really does a great job

I also own pure malt but pm is my clubbing scent and this is my daytime work scent so they both have their own purpose. This one has less lasting power, but perfect strength for an office setting

florindeca

it has a divine smell, a beautifull fragrance and it last long on skin.
Very very very good fragrance.

keffy

For those of you who REALLY love gourmand fragrances like myself, this one is called the GRANDFATHER of GOURMANDS. It has some similarities to Angel Pure Malt and Angel A-men, it doesn't last half as long as those but it is very good, especially for the price, i bought this one as a blind buy and i dont regret it one bit. Very vanilley, chocolatey and so on , really good gourmand for the price, its also very cheap. Some people suggest that Thierry Mugler got his idea from Animale Animale.

dancinleroy

I bought this as a blind buy just based on the reviews and ranking of this fragrance on this site. I have never smelled pure havane but have smelled pure malt, and I see the resemblence due to the sweetness. This is a sweet scent, but it's dirty in all the right ways. The vanilla, honey and tobacco are strong throughout and that what I like. The longevity is OK, but could be better and the projection is good. This is a great fall/winter scent or even a spring/summer night scent in small doses. So far, it's my favorite gourmand type scent along with Rochas man and Givenchy play intense. I would reccomend this over those two though.

stayclose

sweet seductive laid back animale. I smell honey vanilla and tabaco I think, which are the notes that really stand out for me but iam not sure. Interesting scent and for $20 for 100ml its a good buy.

Edit: although this a good scent it does short life drying down to a stale patchuli. (But this also could be that I spray it on after the gym. So try to use right after you shower) So have the bottle on hand to keep it fresh if your planing a all night or all dayaffair.

Nicely

for me its smells more like pure malt than pure havane. this fragrance is Sex in the bottle guys its a'men pure malt but cheaper.

freddiefingers

I have gotten more compliments on this than on any other fragrance I have worn and believe me,I rotate all the time and never had anyone pass a comment except this!Yes,I get the connection with Pure Havane but given the overall complexity of this makes it a better choice for me than PH.It definitely has to be one of the most underrated fragrances around and to top,the price is still right!!!
To think this had been available long before Mugler hit us with A*Men and his siblings!!!
