Acqua Essenziale Colonia by Salvatore Ferragamo is a Aromatic Fougere fragrance for men. Acqua Essenziale Colonia was launched in 2015. The nose behind this fragrance is Alberto Morillas. Top notes are Bergamot and Water Notes; middle notes are Clary Sage, Orange Blossom and Lavender; base notes are Ambroxan, Vetiver and Tonka Bean.

Salvatore Ferragamo launches a fresher successor to fragrance Aqua Essenziale presented in April 2015. The name of the fragrance is Aqua Essenziale Colonia and it is the third in a row of fragrances to convey Italian charm and the style of the brand by combining notes of "characteristic texture, strong character and sophisticated shades." ACQUA ESSENZIALE COLONIA was created as a fresh aromatic-woody-fougere fragrance, signed by perfumer Alberto Morillas, just like its antecedents Acqua Essenziale from 2013 and Acqua Essenziale Blu from 2014.

This modern EDT was created to satisfy a man’s taste and request for sophisticated fragrances with an innovative interpretation of freshness. Freshness originates from aquatic accords which highlight citrus scents of bergamot. Aromatic notes of lavender and clary sage in the heart illuminate orange blossom, while elegant sound is brought by vetiver combined with a masculine, warm blend of tonka and ambrox in the base.

Fragrance Acqua Essenziale Colonia is available in transparent flacons of 50 ml Eau de Toilette and 100sml Eau de Toilette. It can be purchased on the official website of the brand Salvatore Ferragamo.

Definitely Aqua di Parma/4711 Vibes here.
My least favorite of the Acqua Essenziale trio but Not for reasons of it being a terrible fragrance... It's just not for me. A Classy Citrus at an affordable price ... though maybe a touch synthetic.

Docplaya

It’s a cross between Acqua di Parma Essenza and ADP the OG, leaning closer to the OG. It doesn’t have the depth and quality of Acqua di Parma, but it beats the OG in performance.

Have you ever walked by a well dressed Italian guy with slicked back hair and got hit in the face with a dense scent cloud of the citrusy barbershop aquatic fragrance he bathed in earlier that evening? This is what that fragrance reminds me of. That being said, it smells high quality for the price. I’ve never smelled Aqua di parma colonia, but this is what I’d imagine it smells like and supposedly that is the case. The notes are very accurate here. The citrus and watery notes are the stars of the show. Ambroxan helping them radiate. Lavender and clary sage add that classic gentlemanly barbershop feel along with the tamed vetiver in the base which remains soapy clean and doesn’t smell earthy at all. This may smell a bit too mature or potent for someone in their 20s. I’d say this is for 30s and up. Best for Spring/Summer days. Both casual and formal occasions.

MSKMAN

My batch number comes back to being almost nine years old. I say this because the scent trail on this batch is monstrous, and the performance is good. Acqua Essenziale Colonia is unlike its siblings in the Acqua Essenziale line, and there is a noticeable difference in its use of citrus and aromatics. Colonia opens and cuts through the air like a piercing knife; the scent starts with very sharp citrus and aromatic qualities. As the fragrance hits its middle, you are encountered with a white floral, which stays in the bright direction. As the fragrance settles, you are left with a remarkable scent profile, which is excellent for warmer weather. If you have an older batch, don't make the same mistake I made and overspray. A beautiful woman told me that my fragrance smelled good, but she could taste the scent ... the bad part about all this was she was easily 8 feet away from me, and my fragrance invaded her nostrils. Don't be like me and overspray.

NoirRGV

After owning this for two years, let me just say I like the scent profile, especially in my hot and humid area year round. At the same time, it smells like sweet piss. If I ruin it for anybody, sorry. The overall scent is very well blended though. It smells expensive. If you hang around other frag heads they'll definitely appreciate the scent. Much better than something cloying like ombre leather

jgherrera

A bit too floral for me, but I'm not a fan of florals at all. Other than that, a decent, not-too-loud fragrance.

Acqua Essenziale Colonia by Salvatore Ferragamo has a classy and mature scent profile. A younger guy could pull this off but I thinking it’s more suited to the older guys >40 years old. It’s perfect for hot summer days and has a slightly less Creed Green Irish Tweed feel about it which I really like. This is one of my first purchased fragrances only worn twice now. I wasn’t impressed the first time I wore it but this time?! It’s outstanding. It put me in a fantastic easy going mood. Like nothing can go wrong with my day sort of feeling. There is nothing synthetic about this fragrance and I’m really enjoying it.

Let_it_be

Yes the top notes of Green Irish Tweed is in this one. That Verbena/Lemon-Orange Blossom smell is clearly similar to that Creed's fragrance. It's not Mugler's Cologne, Acqua di Gio or Eau Sauvage as mentioned by some people. The drydown however is different to GIT, there's no Sandalwood - it's just the same Acqua Essenziale base.

Overall, this is a good one especially for the price. It's a suave old school smell, listen to Sinatra sing "Come fly with me" when you wear this and imagine you are in the Amalfi coast in Italy.

Scentlogics

I’ve never tried Acqua di Parma Colonia Acqua di Parma but I’m getting Creed green Irish tweed vibes from this. I love this I picked it up for $10 at a local shop they had some testers on clearance.

happy-knight

Masculine soapy citrus scent, works well for hot weather. A bit abrasive initially.

razorsedge

Fresh, zingy green citrus scent. Cold and zesty, clean and refreshing type of citrus, kinda like Eau de Rochas. Very traditional sophisticated and leaning old-school, but still very wearable on all occasions. Reminds me of Acqua di Parma a lot, so far the closest scent to it for me, but it doesn't dry down as flowery as AdP, instead goes modern "blue" with Lavender and Vetiver which is great on it's own.

Excellent longevity too, for the colonia type of scents. While doesn't project too strong for too long, stays for the day on me.

scentaddicted

I got this as part of a lot of fragrances someone was unloading. The bottle was hardly used which is surprising now that I've worn it. This is quite the steel for only $15 at discounters. The first whiff of it made me think of Aqua Di Gio Profundo, something I haven't seen in other reviews. The opening has very similar notes to Profundo. Bergamot and Water (i'm assuming marine is the intention) are in both. The middle notes also have similar vibes. The base of the Profundo is more animalic, which didn't sit well on my skin. Between them, Acqua Essenziale Colonia is better on me. Acqua Essenziale Colonia however is a bit lighter and fresher, but less sophisticated than profundo. Acqua Essenziale Colonia is nice daytime outdoor gym scent or a work-around-the-house scent. I don't get the tonka in the base much, but the ambroxan and Vetiver are definitely present. I haven't smelled ADP in a few weeks, but it does remind me of that a little. It is not a clone for sure.

Smell 4/5
Longevity 4/5
Sillage 3/5

If you are on a budget don't hesitate to buy this...Also the perfumer behind this is Alberto Morillas who designed massive hits like CK One, Bvlgari Man, and Aqua di Gio! Seriously $15.

jackchemin

Love this stuff! Makes you feel like Sonny Crockett walking the beaches of Miami!

JohnnyO

This one is a complete miss for me due to the heavy soapy aspects of this fragrance.

realestrater444

Soapy floral, traditional masculine clean scent, great for work and casual wear and warm weather. Great quality for the price, all the prominent notes seem to be actual raw materials from the flowers. I get solid longevity with this, you won’t complain about poor performance.

Coupe_de_ villain

Love this. Acqua di Parma vibes, but more synthetic (in a good way IMO). I suppose AdP is the superior fragrance, but if you like it don’t sleep on this one. My favorite way to wear this is coming out of the barber shop on a brutal summer day.

Leonyarra

I agree with Rare Fougeres observations below me, but I actually like that its is tangier and more metallic than AdP, so I think it is one of those subjective things. I perceive the quality of this cheapie to be excellent especially for the price. I dontget the “dirty” comments. Maybe this has to do with the fizzy effect of the neroli

Rare Fougere

I just got this and a few people compared it to Acqua Di Parma (which I love). I don’t think this is a fair comparison. It is less soothing/pleasant than ADP and is colder, tangier (like smarties or jolly ranchers) slightly metallic and not nearly as pleasant when it is first applied. In the drydown, it is much nicer/more tolerable, but it isn’t so great. It lasts long and has a great price. This would be something to keep in your glove compartment or your desk/locker at work. Good maybe to cover up gas or other foul smells. Definitely not something I would wear to fish for compliments or to self soothe.

StankFrank

Clean & dirty. Works with either the Gomez Addams ‘stache, or if I go stubble-bro. Does not work with cop stache, friendly beard or razor smooth for me. Too dirty. Takes swag to wear.

binbabalu

I can see why people like this, it does smell much better in the air, however, it is nothing like all the other mainstream designer frags out there. This is a mature, strong, Italian style frag and not sure it is something I will ever come around to. It is starting to grow on me a bit and others have told me they like it when I have asked for opinions, but definitely try and sample before dropping $30 unless you like the old school Italian vibe strong soap?

Different than anything I own and I have most of the mainstream designer frags from past decade. It is a quality fragrance for the money, more mature and spicy than I typically like.

Made by Kouros

This made a one day appearance in my collection and then I gifted it. All the people saying this smells like Acqua di Parma are missing the key element that this is nowhere near AdP quality. AEC is cheaper and unfortunately this time it means it also smells like it. It's got that synthetic metallic teflon sheen to it, that fuzzy sweet metallic synthetic smell. Of the notes I got some sage that smelled more like spice rack sage than clary sage, and then mostly just that synthetic smell. Seems like Morillas was severely hamstrung by a very limited budget.

Mystères du Château de Dé

Waited a year and for a heat wave to revisit this. It's just great, not simple, evolves, absolutely delicious.

rafaelpdelima

Sparkly, salty citrus. This is a sharper take on a classic Italian Cologne, but with a slight sour/dirty edge and much better performance than your average freshie.

For the price at discounters, it is really good value.
It is a 7/10 for me.

But if you have some more $, get the "Aqui di Parma Colonia Intensa" instead and over spray it. It is much smoother and more elegant (despite the weaker performance).

Arber Cami

Opens up bright and citrusy, but after 30mins I don't like how it evolves. There is something in this perfume that makes me puke, something soapy and it really doesn't smelling good at all.

Perfumelover2003

It is much better than aqua Di Parma because it last 7 hours on me .
I bought it after watching a review by Marco 4 U Perfumes on YouTube
Love it so much👍

Ryanmmas26

This is such a stunning scent from start to finish (although this may not be everyones cup of tea)

Colonia opens up very citrusy, musky and fresh and on opening blast it will remind you of that classic barbershop smell and it’s done beautifully
(However, don’t judge this by the opening as it does change)

In the mid it loses some of that old school edge and becomes more modern. At this stage the orange blossom and lavender are the stars and it becomes more sweet but not overly sweet, and more fresh going into that fresh laundry by the ocean type of vibe ! I’d say this is my least favorite stage but it’s still amazing!!

Where this fragrance shines is the drydown !!! (Which happens about 2 hours in) The lavender is the main player, backed by some really nice vetiver and the orange blossom is in the background! This stage you get a semi-aquatic,fresh ocean smell that’s very velvety and smooth and just so amazing and pleasant !

I actually received 2 compliments on this and very interesting compliments! The one girl in the elevator said it smelled like a nice bubble bath and one of my clients said it smelled like a soap she smelled from a resort in Portugal ! I’d definitely have to agree to most people this will definitely smell like a high class soap !!

Fragrances this bares similarities to are Ferrari bright Neroli,John Varvatos Artisan Acqua and even a little like some Prada scents !

Performance on this is great ! It projects very well for an hour but dies down fairly quick becoming a nice scent bubble ! This does have very good silage though and lasts on my skin 8-12 hours !!

Overall rating - 9 out of 10 ! Amazing scent that performs well, gets compliments, lasts long and is very affordable!

On the flip side if you don’t like barbershop scents and prefer super sweet frags than if say pass. Also give this a full wearing on skin before giving this a proper assessment

realestrater444

This is the definition of fresh soapy clean cologne. It’s mature but you can still wear it if your young it’s just for more mature people in general. Having a decent sized collection and having smelled many fragrances I could say this is very well blended imo. I get white floral, lavender, some aquatic citrus, and then enough of the vetiver and tonka bean to give it enough sweetness and depth while not ruining the clean freshness. I give this solid 8/10 with good performance

t_bonee

A nice freshy. A clean, soapy, barbershop scent. Reminds me very much of Creed Himalaya at a fraction of the cost. I like this one a lot.

caifan

Acqua Essenziale Colonia is a citrusy, soapy, musky fragrance with a clean scent.

Its opening is floral and citrusy, it feels a bit soapy, like in the style of some Acqua di Parma cologne, this phase is very attractive to me, since I like that style of fragrance. Over time the scent becomes more aromatic and aquatic, with a bit of lavender and of course ambroxan, maybe a bit of wood.

This fragrance is completely flattering for daytime wear, office work, or anywhere a neat appearance is desired.

Its duration to be a cologne type is good, at least I reach 8 hours on my skin with a regular sillage the first hour and then it goes down.

Who likes the citrus and floral fragrances of the Acqua di Parma style, this Cologne by Ferragamo will surely enjoy it, and it can also be obtained at a very affordable price.

stephen.redeker

What I like about Acqua Essenziale Colonia is the soft bergamot and orange blossom. This isn't like the modern in-your-face blue aquatic ambroxan bombs of the past decade or so. It does have a bright opening which doesn't last long, but then dries to a neroli/citrus/lavender combo that give vibes of freshly cleaned laundry, as said below. This comes off as more floral to me than citrussy or aquatic. This is suitable for most occasions. It is a great cheapie if you want a modern day version of the barbershop-type scents from decades past. Especially if you prefer just a subtle scent bubble around you in the summer months. Performance is average, as is the rest of this Essenziale line.

mikedifronzo

Just what I was looking for. Hits the sweet spot of a classic Italian barbershop opening with a more modern dry down. Plus it comes at a great price. The opening does give 70's vibes but that settles down pretty quickly. The second Ferragamo fragrance I have bought recently (Uomo Signature) and really like both.

Wild Water

Don't judge this one on the opening, which is an astringent blast. Give it a good minute to settle and you'll smell a subtle sour sweetness of juicy bergamot. As it dries the clary sage and orange blossom start to come out more. Some will read this combo as "urinal cake" but it's very well blended and calls to mind classic Italian colognes in the vein of AdP.

The lavender starts to become apparent after a while, say an hour later. Mixed with the neroli/orange blossom you get the impression of fresh laundry blowing on a clothesline on a sunny day. It gets a hint of powder to it, but never becoming a powdery scent.

The base is ambrox done right. It's less the intense bombs of blue fragrances of the last 10 years and more in a tobacco-y ambergris sort of way. It's around from the early stages and quite nice for the price you pay. The coumarin adds a hint of sweetness while never being overt, and the vetiver keeps a sour, slightly salty vibe through the far drydown.

Vetiver, orange blossom/neroli, and a slight hint of bergamot are most of what remain after about four hours and it remains somewhat close to the skin for another few hours after that. It's not listed, but I get a bit of patchouli in the far drydown, probably there to extend things out a bit longer.

Essenziale Colonia certainly feels like a Morillas creation, and I'd even go so far as to say if Acqua di Gio were an Italian guy in his 20's, this Colonia is the same guy in his 40's. The ideas of Eau Sauvage mixed with Mugler Cologne are apt. I might say it more as AdP/Mugler, but that's splitting hairs. It's a more mature scent that a lot of 20's and 30's guys won't jibe with, but for those that click with it it's a gem in the price range.

Dzarsos

The opening note combo is 100% classic '70s Paco Rabanne mixed with Dial bar soap, and I LOATHE it. So, when I sprayed it on (the morning after I bought it), I was immediately about to go wash it off. But, suddenly, as I frantically waved my arm about, trying to clear the air with my non-tainted wrist, this light touch of orangey lavender wafted past, and I thought, "Whoa, where was that from?"

Being kind of thick that early in the morning, I did not immediately realise it was the fragrance I'd just sprayed, and instead, I tried to follow the smell. Five minutes of stupid later, I reflexively scratched my nose with my scented hand, and, lo and behold, that lovely aroma was coming from my own wrist, where, buried under the '70s nose-bomb opening, was this lovely spring-summer freshness. Colour me stunned (which is a shade of rainbow, accented with dark clear, or so I've been told).

A mid-afternoon warm breeze carrying orange, lavender, and the smell of clean laundry, with a distant whiff of the sea. That's this scent in a nutshell (after that atrocious opening), and It's officially in the rotation because it's that good.

...I just need a nose plug for the first 5 minutes.

Scentsibilities

Had this and disliked it was very fresh but something about it to me was off I'd rather wear F Pour homme a much safer buy.I just can't put my finger on what it is I dislike about it.Try it yourself as you may love it but for me it's a no and a strong on at that.

Kinggeebee

Hi
This reminds me of a mix between Prada Amber pour home (sweet, powdery, clean) and Cerruti 1881 (typical Italian cologne freshness, clean). What I mean is that it is less sweet and dense than the Prada. Lighter, more suited for summer. It is what I've been looking for. (I love soapy fragrances you see...)

I love it.

Longevity and projection is above average.

Enjoy.

chrisk252

A refreshing, herbal, lavender modernized fougere. I bought it because of the ADP Colonia (which I have and love) but this is more herbal, green, and lavender vs ADP's citrus lavender. A bit sweeter than what I usually wear but not a young clubby sweetness. Parts of the drydown gave hints of Cerruti 1881, probably from the lavender. I wish it was more of a citrus freshie type, but it's a versatile enjoyable scent all the same. Very good value.

Scent: 7.75 / Sillage: 7.5 / Longevity: 7

richmilton

Morillas is my favorite perfumer. But he got lazy with this one. It's not bad, just too much like other freshies. Morillas can do a hell of a lot better. Maybe the price of Jeremy's Office line is haunting him lol.

Roman86

Nice, light and sweet with moderate projection. This one is definitely for the warmer weather. It's a nice modern scent that can be worn in all occasions. Thumbs up.

lespritz.1

Uh, it's okay, but nothing to want or need. It's like a muted John Varvatos Artisan, ish...yeah, watery orange-ish but not as strong or industrious as the JV. Safe mild office sent. Doesn't smell like an old man, but not a kid sugary smell either. Personally think it's kinda generic and one of the worst by Morillas. I got the 100ml for $29.99, it seems like a ripoff lol. I wouldn't buy it again.

Saltychipdust

This is excellent stuff for what it is. It’s a dated smell but perfect for the 40 and up. Neroli opening gives way to a sweeter base. Good price but also was something I had to part with as I never reached for it..Acqua Di Parma on a budget.

rory1

I love the drydown but the opening on this is gross to me. Wish I could identify which note it is that makes me dislike it so much.

Liffy19

Beautiful fragrance.. Love it... Fresh and long lasting

dlopeztt

Barbershop feel.
Good freshie.

bal026

It well blended... just love it and the performance is too good.

klix27

Smells really good like Acqua di Parma range but performance is truly bad. In fact it is and EDT, compared to AdP is just pure EDC, but AdP last long. Great smell but poor execution.

Colonia has a contemporary water note yet is a classic, dry, aromatic cologne. Not a clone that I know of. I don't imagine young men wearing this, a pity. Definition of Mediterranean sport chic.

ferlzjordan

Beautiful, a “ Colonia” masterfully done! Definitely on the “serious” end. Not sexy or playful, this thing is all about business, taking charge, being on the move and getting things done. Think alpha!.
The notes for this are on point, strong citrus opening, then an aquatic-musky vibe, lavender, neroli and vetiver, slight sweetness towards the end.
With 4-5 sprays I get easily 6-8 hours ( and more sometimes…) of longevity, with a strong projection for the first two hours. I snatched two testers for $20 each… the value-$$$ is sky-high.

Dr Harder

I have just seen one of youtubers saying that Salvatore ferragamo acqua essenziale colonia reminds him of Montblanc legend spirit. Like they are not even close, not even the same type, category or quality. One is sweet modern interpretation of Invictus and the other is modern twist on an old school fougeres, thats just beyond your personal taste or skin or nostrils, they are so apart from each other. How come people can be so deceiving

walterkondor85

I had a Old Spice deo spray that resembled a loat to this fragrance, obviously the Ferragamo smells a lot better but I was expecting something more aquatic. Indeed it has an italian vibe to it and is enjoyable. I quess i smelled a lot of cheap neroli and lavander everywhere and I just need to get past that. A few people said this smells similar to Aqua di Bergamotto by Zegna and that is false!
Two hours after first applying I like this more and more, the drydown is the best part, soapy ineed but very nice scent, btw i paied 17 $ for 100ml

Dr Harder

Amazing scent that will not be apreciated by younger people. Morning shower, shaving and 5-6 sprays of aqua essenziale and you are off to go. It has that clean zingy effect and it can be worn probably in all seasons. I am yet to test it at lower temperatures but I have a feeling it will cut through cold weather easily. I am more and more into fougeres, no more this Boss/Versace /Armani nonsense

Vaporized

2nd review:
Alberto Morillas, a true master of scents....
The archetypal barbershop fragrance, feels you just came out with a proper shave and a decent cut, the exquisite gentleman.
All seasonal scent? Suitable for all sorts of weather
Unisex? Gentleman's scent all the way
Blind buy worthy? Yes the safest barbershop fragrance
Performance? Longevity, 6 hours and decent projection (At first this was low performing, after a couple of days use, its great!)

StankFrank

It is all said below. The opening takes time to appreciate. The first time I wore it I thought of opening a fresh package of adult diapers. Now I love the bitter citrus chased by the floral/herbal heart. The dry down is clean, soapy, dry and delicious. Not sweet at all on me. Projects well for 2-3 hours then sits close for 3-4 more in hot weather. Lasts longer on clothes. Smells like visit to the doctor after he visited his Italian barber. Shines in the sun outside, or on hot muggy nights. Safe for indoors. Masculine, 35+, old school, business, church, casual but crispy. Very inexpensive smells classy & sophisticated. Last girl that commented on it called me Dr Manicotti

Scent 9/10
Performance 8/10
Value 8/10

EDIT
Bumped up performance because I gassed out a small retail shop ~2hrs after ~4 sprays the other day. Came in from the heat & 2 women started sneezing 🤧

Trike23

This was a real surprise when I first sprayed it. Its sooo sharp in the opening then mellowed out very nicely. This is the PERFECT blend of old meets new. If and of you super young guys are interested in smelling like a man but wanna smell youthful also this is your scent. I absolutely love this Fragrance. I would highly recommend this.

Napasonoma

Old meets new! This is a new take on an older scent profile. I love it! This is a gentleman’s Cologne it’s not for the club or real casual settings. This is a mans cologne. Yes it has a hint of the barber shop scent, but there is just enough of amber, and Tonka bean to just slightly sweeten it up. Sage and lavender are there for the long haul. Look if you are a younger man you could rock this in a nice suit or in a business environment. This is a test before you buy if you are under 40, otherwise us older guys can surely rock this!

Vapor Trail

Revisiting this one a couple years after my first bottle and yep, it's just as good as I remember.

Acqua Essenziale Colonia is frequently mentioned on the forums as a "modern barbershop" fragrance whenever that topic is raised, and you do have the trio of bergamot, lavender, and coumarin typically present in the fresher group of '80s classics. I definitely appreciate its interpretation of the fougeres of yesteryear. Nice to see Morillas try something different!

The opening is bright and fresh, but not piercing or unpleasant. I'd say the note breakdown is very accurate because bergamot and watery notes are definitely the most present (along with a hint of ambroxan that quickly subsides), while the more floral notes emerge later. I really like orange blossom and neroli, but it's hard to find them in a masculine fragrance that isn't also sweet (Dunhill Desire, Nikos Sculpture, Lapidus Altamir, etc.). Here they combine with the smoothness of lavender and aromatic nature of sage to create that luxurious, soapy feel so many reviewers have already mentioned.

That's not to say this fragrance smells niche (although I hate using that term to describe fragrances anyway), but it does come across as distinguished. It's very, very easy to wear and gets me a surprising amount of compliments! As I wrote previously, it smells good and makes you feel confident. Can't ask for much more than that.

As far as "soapy" fragrances go, this is a must-own if something like Prada L'Homme is too powdery for you. It's also quite affordable!

SkunkApe

Initially, Acqua Essenziale Colonia had a pleasant, clean aquatic smell with lavender and neroli notes. Over time, though, the smell became increasingly soapy. By afternoon I caught a whiff of it and realized it smelled just like the liquid hand soap in a high-traffic public restroom.

Dr Harder

I dont get why people are complaining about this one. Yes it is little bit mature, little bit fougere but for a fragrance thats below 20 eur to smell this clean and refreshing its more than thumbs up from me. Its staying power is also solid and even projection is moderately good. Find me another fragrance in this price range that fits so good these hot weather out of shower situations like aqua essenziale

paligap

Light Mediterranean pronounced lavender glider with a sweetish twist.
Somewhat distinctive.
Drydown similar to Trussardi Uomo 2011.

spartaksci

Fresh, citrusy and "business-like". The citrus here reminds me of the one found in John Varvatos Artisan, it's a "just got out of shower" freshness, but with a more serious tone overall. Smells professional. A white, minimalist office with glass walls in the 27th floor of a building in the center of a big city business area: That's the image this frag paints in my head. Not overly mature but not playful or young at all.
I like it. Some would call this generic, but i find this quite decent and enjoyable for what it is. This could be worn for office, work reunions or just chillin' in the house drinking scotch while watching the stock market news during summer if you have that kind of personality. Definetly not a date or night out scent.

Duration and projection are actually good.

reechlee

Cliche to say, but this has a old school barber shop smell, plus the cold chemical smell of a newer, nice, air conditioned hair salon.

A heavy straight blade razor that has the profile of an air foil; extremely sharp, the edge so fine as if it tapers to zero/infinity. Your whole body shivers as that cold piece of metal presses against your skin. The metal is so dense, it stays cold, wicking the heat away from your skin wherever it passes, your body in that tingly chilled state. You can't tell if the sting is from the cold sensation, or the actual cutting edge of the blade working. It leaves your skin with that subtle tingling that's prone to irritation.

This is a working man's work scent.

40+; he's around middle aged, but he pretty much has 'old timer' status at his work place. He tucks in his company logo'd collared pullover shirt into his work pants/jeans, because he's a little bit old school and because this is work. He has a rugged belt that holds things like a cell phone clip, multi tool, or other small tools. He is a hard ass and doesn't fool around because safety.

Some kind of semi-authoritative position - supervisor, foreman, site manager, contractor consultant. Or maybe some kind of technician - cable/internet technician, security system, fire safety, systems inspector, contractor technician, insurance adjuster. One of those male dominated working jobs that works on the road. He has a company work truck, and although he might have some office duties, he's mainly out in the field.

It is metallic, cold, sharp, harsh, professional.. There's about zero sweetness, this is not about being fun or appealing. The other softer notes here as if only for keeping a neat appearance, and being somewhat approachable to the client. Standard manly vetiver, but feels like its missing something traditional like patchouli or rosemary, so it has a hollow airiness, and makes it feel possibly modern. Amicable only to the extent of controlling and maintaining workplace relations or being business friendly. You only ever associate this scent with work and/or that person, because you only ever see them at work and you only know that side of them.

Shaving is not something you do for fun or pleasure. As a man, it's one of the things you just do. And you do it because you're going to go to work.

kigyo

(10/2020 purchase) Absolutely minimal staying power and projection. 3 hours later barely noticeable. Synthetic metallic less than average smelling citrus. I'd say very safe for office because of the near zero overall power. I've less expensive fragrances that beat this one by a hundred miles. Will not purchase again.

parallelstream

I don’t love the opening. The clary sage and the lavender are a bit harsh. The dry down is excellent, though. The clary sage fades a little bit and the citrus and ambroxan come forward to make it feel very young as well as sophisticated.

It’s got a pretty impressive sillage as well. Doesn’t last super long, but a pretty decent amount. About 6 hours on my skin.

Ferragamo is turning out to be my favorite cheapie brand. They’ve got some truly great, young scents that are more than worth their price. This is one to add to my favorites.

Robinfv

Nice, very nice. Very fresh and soapy, little barbershop vintage but in a modern way. Sophisticated and office safe. Classy scent, feels understated at first but stays a long time. Got many compliments. Makes me curious about the other aquas from this house. Will rebuy this for sure.

ThaSickSence

I blind bought this because I’m a big fan of the original, to find out it smells nothing like it. It smells way too strong in my opinion. Maybe better suited for an older gentleman.

sunsetterxx

VERY FRESH AND SOAPY! smells exactly like you've just stepped out of a shower.

colognefreak

It’s a nice fresh scent without the typical base notes of wood or oak moss or musks so typical of many of the summer scents. Opens with a bright citrus and dries into a sweet, clean vibe. If you’re under 40, you’re probably not going to like it.
It is what it is, fresh, a bit floral and soapy. It reminds me a lot of Brut, in fact, quite a lot.
Totally daytime wear and offers nothing special except to make you smell good...Nothing wrong with that!
It’s not expensive, so spray away.
It’s definitely a “barber shop” clean scent...I love my Fougere’s

Vaporized

Smells exactly like a visit at the Gentleman's barbershop, great stuff for the summers and spring. However the performance is a let down, low projection and longevity of upto 5 hours

Isotope322

Smells interesting. The main notes i pick up is the lavander and clary sage. They give a really masculine feel, that kind of smells like old people. Not for everyone and couldnt recommend as a blind buy.

5/10

Edit: Ok after giving the fragrance multiple tries ive slowly grown to like it. Its a realy green/herbal smelling fresh fragrance. The longevity and projection is pretty bad. The fragrance projects for around 3-4 hours and then its just gone, does not turn into a skin scent, but i guess it is not really meant to perform well, since its a colonia.

7/10

I rate it bettern now cause its not as bad as i thought at the beginning, but the performance still is bad.

bal026

just love it!!! soapy, fresh and masculine!

I purchased Acqua Essenziale Colonia because of the comparisons to Acqua Di Parma Colonia made on here, but they don't smell alike to me at all. Essenziale is nice and would fit a similar reach category but it smells nothing like it. I smell mostly limes and lavender with an ambroxan base. Essenziale smells classically influenced, but modern. ADP on the other hand is classic, but timeless and smells to my nose mostly of Italian lemons and lavender.

I like Essenziale and it was good and cheap, but an inexpensive clone of AdP Colonia it is not

Nooshin (Atghia)

Ambroxan magic sign! In recent years you can find it in several successful fragrance.
•Dior Sauvage EDT
•Versace Dylan Blue
•Prada Luna rossa Carbon
&
....
The key notes are Ambroxan, Tonka bean & Lavender. And the result? Special & popular new modern generation of Aromatic-Fougere structure with its common amber, fresh spicy, semi metallic & musky character! Yes Acqua Essenziale Colonia is another one in this category.

DWOG

It had something weird in it. A sharp note. I gave it away and the person loved it. It might not be a safe blind buy. Its inexpensive. Not for me.

teoteddy1

I'm still scratching my head thinking I bought 100 ml of this for EUR 18 . It was the usual blind buy hard-to-cut-plastic-box TKMaxx fragrance "presentation". Negatives aside, it's the best purchase of the year yet, smells sophisticated, clean, fresh and lasts reasonably. I'm a big fan of Aqua de Parma colonia smell, it's just the price that doesn't agree with me. Now, my prayer has been answered.

DingleBMoney

This is such an amazing fragrance at such an amazing price. Perfect for super hot days. Love it.

DaedalusX

First let me start off by saying I can understand how this scent could throw quite a few people off. This scent reminded me of Bright Neroli by Ferrari, which is strange because there is no neroli in this, but it has kind of the same vibe going on. Years ago I also purchased 4711 and loved it because of its freshness but the performance was horrible. Shortly after I went back to my Ferrari bright Neroli bottle and started to understand it and appreciate it way more over time, so much so I picked up a few other bottles. Anyway, I’m telling you all of this just for context about my struggle with these types of scents. When people say it smells like an old lady I think they mean like an old ladies attic, you know, the mothballs thing. That’s what I equated Ferrari’s scent to, mothballs.. However, something strange happened to my senses after wearing 4711 for a few months, I started loving it, and when I ran out I went to Ferrari’s bright neroli more and more, and then it was one of my most beloved fresheis for spring and summer rotations. I think what I’m trying to say here is if you like 4711 Eau de cologne but hate the performance of that, think of this as 4711 on steroids. Sure it’s slightly different but not by much. To my nose this has the herbal feel that most Salvatore Ferragamo scents have and has a touch of sweetness in the top and mid that I find the other 2 colognes I’ve mentioned are missing. This is everything I could wanted for this type of scent, some much needed punch and staying power. Solid 9/10 for me. You need to let this stuff grow on you, and I promise the compliments will start rolling in. It’s winter over here and I’m wearing this even in the winter, and I’m doing just fine with it.

alspe

I don't get very much wibe of ADP Colonia which much more fresh and citrus yellow with rosemary note. SF Colonia is more green and herbal, maybe more towards blue frags like Dylan Blue. Not bad at all but this can't directly be compared to ADP Colonia. Green sage note dominant, not very citrus fresh scent, more herbal.

Celeria

Simple and easy to wear fragrance, simple cologne in the beginning with the citrus and the florals , a bit like Lalique White ( less peppery ) or 4711 ( more modern ).

I really love the drydown which gets just a tad bit sweeter ( maybe the ambroxan tonka combo, which is very soft ) and more aquatic also.

This stuffs shines in high heats, and it smells really different in the air than on skin, lovely sillage, doesn't smell like a fragrance but more like a clean skin ( not in a dull way though).

Definitely in the realm of great summer cheapies.

Mr. nose it all

So, it’s flowers clearly come from the structure of Salvador Ferragamo Pour Homme, AND UOMO. which I loved But was a little too feminine(personally), and UOMO was too spicy. This also smells like a mix between GIT Himalaya VIW and TOMMY Hilfiger (or UOMO). Somehow the juicyness is like acqua di parma or D&G ph. Along with the lingering floral wet sweet juicyness there’s a separation that is also dry transparent aromatic and spicy. The balance of the two fragrant categories fluctuate and at times overlap.
This is my new favorite for summer, today.
Simultaneously, this pulled off mocking so many other fragrances in one, for ex. Prada l’hommes slight soapy powder or Tom Ford grey vetiver without jeopardizing it’s own identity in full! Interesting.

markfromark

Someone on here said it smells like bathroom air freshener and that is 100% spot on. It smells exactly like the air freshener my grandma had in the 90s. It is floral but in an old lady sort of way.

Vostok308

I'm not getting much in the way of citrus notes and it certainly does not remind me of AdP Colonia.
What it does remind me of is David Beckham The Essence.
The Essence is a quarter of the price.
Poor performance on me too.
Sorry if you like this one but it is not for me, thanks.

BigThirteen

Extremely unique, not like anything else I own.
It takes some time to get use to.
At first it comes off very pungent and almost smells like an “old lady”, but the more I get my nose on it, the more I’m starting to appreciate it.
Projection and longevity are beast mode when you get out in the sun.
I would definitely suggest smelling before buying cause it’s not for everyone.

Edit - this is growing on me so much. I constantly wanna smell it and always wanna wear it. Something about it is so addicting. Still might not be fore everyone, but you might fall in love with it. Give this one a good chance and try it more then once.

AMajeedQT

Starts fresh, citrusy, green, with a fir-like green bitterness. Smells like a forest with a citrus zest.

Then the clean, soapy lavender appears at the drydown & the smell now is like a bathroom afte a hot, soapy shower. Still fresh but a little sharp.

Of all my 15 decants that I've just bought, I find myself reaching for AE Colonia the most because of how simple & comfortable scent it is.

I immediately thought of an Acqua di Parma release. Acqua di Parma Colonia in particular.

Overall, a decent release in the fresh genre that can be worn in the summer, spring, & autumn. Even winter if you want. Go ahead, I won't hold you back.

Like.

VMartone91

Is it the best thing out there, no.. But it is damn good. Longevity isn't very good, but it wasn't designed to be. It is a colonia, or cologne. We all may call our male fragrances cologne, but this is what the word truly means. Wear this in the blistering hot weather or if you know you will be outside. It will scream bliss off of your skin.

The scent itself is so fresh. Its like a clean set of linens. When you are fresh out of the shower, this is among kings.

It won't wow anyone, but it is guaranteed to never offend too. Great scent if you are looking for something in the style of Neroli Portofino and don't want to drop that type of cash. Not a comparison to that, just similar in style.

tariqelsadik

This fragrance is an absolute stunner. Another masterful creation from Alberto Morillas.

I've been testing it for the past few days and I find it to be an enjoyable, mood lifting fougere fragrance. Based on my personal experience, it is best when it's applied right after that morning shower. The soapiness vibe in this fragrance, keeps you feeling refreshed for many hours even when its really hot.

Like many others on here, I picked up Acqua Essenziale Colonia for a really good price. However, this is one of those rare cases where price and quality are not directly correlated. I am a huge fan of traditional "colonia" type fragrances. Acqua Essenziale Colonia is like a traditional Italian colonia made a bit more modern with the addition of aquatic notes. It works really well and I am quite happy to have this one in my collection.

Criglett Clussnum

This is a very fresh spicy, alcoholic barbershop style scent. This is a sharp and citrusy cologne with a nice bite. Think Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger for men with less sweetness and more spice instead. I give this a 8.6/10

Vapor Trail

It's fresh and clean, but also quite masculine. The freshness is more of a soapy vibe rather than an overload of citrus and musk; you have a lot of sage and orange blossom with a woody base.

It reminds me somewhat of an '80s fragrance, but I can't put my finger on which one...

Definitely office-safe, and probably blind-buy worthy. You'll smell good and feel confident.

A Fresh Aquatic Citrus Scent

SOTD (Scent of the Day): Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia EDT

An awesome aquatic/citrus fragrance, from the opening to my nose scent already the aquatic and citrus notes, like the bergamot, orange blossom and as well I detect the sage and lavender which gives that spicy vibe in my opinion, it will be my staple to my summer rotation, notes are well blended. A freshie office scent as well and is a must buy. Probably in my top ten of fragrances for spring/summer.

Damn this is an Awesome scent, that I didn't appreciate upon first smelling, once it settle in 5 mins, I was blown away of how fresh, sophisticated and so masculine it was. I bought me 3 sets and one for my dad. It’s also a head turner and compliment magnet. Go get it. If you dont like this, you’re probably a picky fragrance head. I like both designer and niche scents, but picky on designer. This is one of those pickys. I wonder why this can only be found in ferragamo stores as far as retail goes. This is way better than the heavily praised Acqua di gio and Acqua Di Parma Colonia. Only ADG Essenza is better. This is a classic, underrated and under marketed.

Smellwise

Italian soap smell.. not my cup of tea.. but not bad for a fresh fragrance.. above average performance.. 2 sprays after shower is all i need for the whole day.. i like my fragrances to smell subtle but present..

gregk

I am at a loss to understand how so many people find this similar to AdP Colonia..Really? This is pretty much an aquatic, with a light touch of citrus and a strong herbal element (particularly sage)..also a bit metallic, and more modern than AdP.

AdP opens with a zesty lemon, with some notable rosemary, vetiver and spices that follow. They have only one note in common (lavender), and AdP has neither the aquatic aspect nor the very dominant sage note that is present in Acqua Essenziale.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy both (and bonus points to Acqua Essenziale for the value you get at that price), but I don't find them to be similar in the slightest

FreshTones

If you were thinking about buying a full bottle of ADP "Colonia", I highly suggest you rethink your decision. More on that later. Pretty basic bottle, good sprayer. This is definitely a "less is more" kind of deal.

ADP "Colonia", a clone. A damn fine one, at that, with better performance. I love ADP, most of their fragrances, "Colonia" being one of them. I just can't justify the price tag on some when there is such a great alternative in Ferragamo "Colonia". It may not smell quite as realistic as the ADP but it's a damn fine clone. Citruses, a tad aquatic, herbal, a tad flowery but masculine. Soapy finish. This is a classic "cologne" done extremely well without the exorbitant price tag.

Performance is killer, especially compared to the ADP. I get a consistent 7-8 hours out of it. Sillage is moderate. I could see this being a go-to work frag for all ages. Can work in all situations, really. Excellent stuff.

PedramFrag

This fragrance is like a threesome between zegna Uomo, Nautica voyage and Davidoff coolwater and at the same time is better than any of them individually. It starts off like Uomo but fresher in the direction of Voyage ( minus the apple note). It is rounded a lot better than both of the fragrances. Similrity with cool water shows off in middle notes and base notes which are pretty same. However, it does not smell as much dated. Overall, it is a respectable release from a legendary perfumer. It smells classic and a bit mature, so if you are a person who finds the current freshies which are heavy on the ambroxan you might not like it. It works pretty well as an office wear on warmer days of the year.

broadnax757

A must buy if your a fan of the designer, this smells like prada lhommd except it's 2x better

broadnax757

Wow!!! I have colonial on my left arm and la nuit del home and colonial blows it out of the park.

c.davis

Man this is a Lady s Man Scent, guaranteed to turn heads and get compliments instantly from the young, middle aged and the elderly. This is a classic aromatic designer almost niche scent. Smells sophisticated and so fresh so clean with out being harsh. This is for all occasions. I will be buying a couple of bottles. Go get it for $30

"OH my what is that you wearing"

Philosophy.and.Fragrance

It has great performance, but there is a flowery vibe that after an hour it turns to bad smell, like old cheap female colognes that I can remember from 30 years ago, so I love to wear this fragrance but it bothers me after an hour.
Projection 9.5/10
Longevity 9.5/10

LeotheLion

This peaked my interest when mentioned in barber shop fragrance discussions. To me, it doesn't quite fit the barber shop bill, but it doesn't venture too far off though. It's extremely clean, fresh and soapy in the same vein as Mugler cologne. Performance is average when sprayed 6-8 times, which is something I rarely do but this is really not offensive and won't fill a room. You get a soft sillage that helps you smell clean and sophisticated. Perfect for warm summer mornings. This is my best pick of the aqua essenziale line. Great value.
Grade: B+

Zuma_Moon

This could be a flanker of the Acqua di Parma range. If your a fan of their range I recommend you try this one. Its a fraction of the price and is very much in the realm of a classic Italian style scent.

Starts out with a nice citrus and aquatic opening then a sweetness develops in the drydown from the tonka bean and amber base. I get 6 hours and moderate sillage from 4 sprays.

A great value Italian Summer scent, much respected addition to my wardrobe.

Highly recommended 8/10

trayton

Vintage cologne from the 80s. If you like classic Italian colognes, try it. Otherwise, this is not for you.

Blueslippers

Very good indeed. Very similar to Original ADP Colonia in the opening, but more modern and less powdery in the drydown.

ADPs Essenza, Assoluta and Intensa are 3 of my favorites and marginally better than this, but they are also 4-5 times the price, making this a no brainier as an everyday summer freshie. It's also a much, much more successful take on a modern Colonia than ADP's disappointing Pura.

One of the best value scents in my collection!

HighCountryEsq

This juice makes me happy. Clean, fresh and just the right amount of soapiness. I definitely pick up on the AdP vibe, but this is a fantastic fragrance on it's own with great longevity for a freshie. I was fortunate enough to get this in a swap with a fellow Fragrantica member (Thanks Shugenja!!), but the price and quality are such that this juice is almost a no brainer for your Spring/Summer rotation. I recommend checking it out.

msajoy

Fantastic composition,i wish i could get the USA prices like in marshals or tj max,its about 35USD here, but you know what, ill get it...its so amazing, beautiful bottle, heavy glass and nice metal plate in front.i get beautiful citruses with herbaceous qualities which is reminiscent of adp colonia, ferrari radiant bergamot, neroli portofino or 4711, all in same cologne style,Mediterranean sea side feel...fresh invigorating stuff, many people dont get very good performance, i got 4/5 hours in summer, im very happy with that, i definitely think its beautiful and much better than many expensive designer summer freshies...

Art Vandalaay

Neroli, vetiver, aquatic masculine freshness, with a musky undertone that I find quite intoxicating. You can really notice the scent develop on a hot summer day. From a delightfully bright opening to an ambroxin, vetiver dry-down. It’s an enjoyable journey. Perfect for sitting in a beer garden on a hot day, watching the world go by as a gentle breeze reminds you that the scent is still there for up to 5hrs. I live by the sea so it’s aquatic nature really suits my environment. Great summer scent.

2nd Review:

After owning aqcua di parma colonia, colonia intensa, colonia pura, colonia essenza, colonia club, creed himalaya, creed GIT, creed original vetivier. I can tell you that this one is probably better and more sophisticated than many of them with less than 20$. Impressive fragrance by all means.

TonyAKAMrClean

Just picked up a bottle of this for $14 at Marshals! So far, this is the epitome of a barbershop scent in my opinion. Fresh, but not too much citrus, manly, deep, lots of interesting notes pulling your nose in multiple directions. This is great!

It shares a lot of similarities with Replica At The Barber's, and the sage note reminds me of At The Barber's basil note. I originally sold Dior Sauvage in favor of At The Barber's, but this is so similar to ATB, that I might sell At The Barber's in favor of this! (That's not to say that this is similar to Sauvage, because it isn't.) We'll see which I keep after some wearing, but this is a great manly fresh scent so far! How anybody could label this as unisex, I have NO idea! (And that's coming from a man who will openly wear women's perfumes without an ounce of shame).

Update: Two hours in, and the water note is finally taking precedence, while it was heavily shrouded by the sage note, originally. Now I'm noticing a VERY SLIGHT similarity to John Varvatos Artisan, which is not a bad thing. The other notes are still present and keeping this scent mature and manly.

Final update: Four hours in, and the projection is gone and the scent is now just an unrecognizable skin scent of fresh water notes. Still there, but not enough to be noticed. Unfortunately the performance is a bit abysmal on my skin, but at its price, it's one that you can respray on your lunch break without any guilt.

Final Update: Decided to keep this one and part with At The Barber's. This is a no brainer scent, and while not my favorite genre, or favorite scent in the genre for that matter, this scent will scratch the itch just fine for whenever I'm in the mood for a clean barbershop type scent. (And it's cheaper than the others too!)

Also - I don't like AdP Colonia, but I do like this, obviously.

Ray Achnioach

Not bad but not really anything special at all either. I find this fragrance to be a very generic, watery-fresh type of fragrance and a bit too unisex for my manly preferences in what I'll wear. This would be fine as a fabric softener perhaps. This one will find its way to ebay.

360Logic

Do yourself a favor and sample this before buying anything in the ADP Colonia line. This particularly reminds me of ADP Colonia Club, but with an added water note, which I prefer. It smooths out the somewhat harsh sage which borders on a urinal puck smell sometimes. Might be the best value in perfumery, at least that I've found so far. Not saying it's better than any ADP, but it's worth doingsome due diligence on this one before dropping $$$ on a niche brand.

tayyabforyouth

Salvatore Farragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia EDT

To my nose: This opens with a very soapy mix of clary sage and neroli (orange blossom), with clary sage being dominant. As it dries down I get hints of soapy vetiver and lavender mixed with clary sage and neroli, making the whole thing smell like Italian soap (though clary sage is still the most dominant note). It's a very pleasant smell. I also detect watery notes throughout the whole thing, which I'm not sure were necessary for this type of fragrance. It has a very Italian 'colonia' type feel to it. On drydown I can also detect ambroxan. Ambroxan to my knowledge is a synthetic version of a very old perfume ingredient known as ambregris ('grey amber' in French), or whale vomit, which when aged smells very pleasant with an oceanic and mineralic undertone to it. Ambroxan has been used in a number of famous modern colognes, chief among them being Dior's Sauvage and Versace's Dylan Blue. The ambrox in this is there but it's muted (which I find particularly pleasant as too much ambrox as in Dylan Blue and Sauvage ends up oddly smelling like generic shower gel to me). Sillage is moderate while longevity is moderate leaning strong. The whole concoction in this fragrance ends up smelling like a fine Italian soap, and I actually enjoy it. Alberto Morillas (my favourite perfumer) was behind this fragrance, of famous names like Armani's Acqua di Gio, CK One, Carolina Harrera 212 Men, and Givenchy Pi. And he doesn't disappoint with this fragrance either, which is in the style of Acqua di Parma's Colonia but different. It has an old-school sort of feel to it that I really enjoy.

5/5

Shugenja

VERY Soapy top notes!
The soap is strong with this one. The orange blossom in the middle smells great with enough zest to keep the herbs from darkening the bright effect.
I agree with @Tazahr that the aquatic notes diminish the scent. It would be better to simply remove those notes. It is a good fragrance, but almost great.
Long lasting and good sillage to the base notes.

Tazahr

There is a reason Albero Morillas is the legend of fresh fragrances.

This is a very cheap fragrance but it smells gentlemenly sophisticated and classic with dominant bergamot "colonia type" citrus freshness. Very beautiful and well done. Excellent and very smooth utilization of ambroxan that gives the fragrance good longevity and performance without any harshness .

One the same league of Aqcua di Parma colonia's and surprisingly similar quality.

Thumb up.

Moneymanscent

This is it, a classic. Elegant. A awesome versatile clean and fresh scent that turns heads and turns the ladys on. Im serious. Its dangerous. Manly freshness done right. I will be buying another

aet

What a great product! Totally agree with the C 4711 comparisons, but lasts much longer. Good longevity - was still smelling it hours later. Sillage was so so. Clean, fresh, masculine. a great spring or summer scent. perfect for office year round.

sjunaidalishah

Fragrances are not bonded with the price tag. You can find good fragrance in very reasonable price. And Acqua Essenziale Colonia is one of the examples. It is very good perfume. Has a common wipe in start. As you can smell bergamot and lemongrass and lemongrass notes stays till heart notes. Later you can smell lavender and it dry down to tonka and ambroxan. Very decent notes and good masculine fragrance.

No need to get confused with the name. First it's not very typical aqua as it has more character in it. Secondly, it is not a Cologne as it silage and longevity is very remarkable.

I would suggest you that you can wear this fragrance not just in summer/spring. But easily wear in fall as well.

Lastly do not wear this in close encounters as your partner might feel it bit strong and synthetic. If it linger around in the air this a compliment getter.

hendra777

Reminds me of Dunhill Icon with that sort of sour neroli thing going on. I detect a sweet musk in the drydown, typical of almost all Alberto Morillas creations.

It's a decent scent no doubt, but mostly forgettable and similar to many other neroli scents.

sauceheadz

Ok not as good as the blue version definitely not as good as the original version. Smells like Windex on the opening.but when it dries down it becomes pleasant enough.

dsyben

I have seen some reviews of this by some reviewers I trust and they all said this smells nothing like Acqua Di Parma Colonia. So, I was very surprised when I sprayed it and was very much reminded of AdP Colonia (Which I was wearing on my other hand). Unfortunately this is only from the top notes and after a few minutes this becomes a very generic fresh scent with poor performance.

angelo..zucchinni

RESEMBLES THE 4711 TO MY NOSE...NOW LETS HOPE IT LASTS MORE THAN A HALF HOUR...SMELLS EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD AND HARD TO MATCH UP ITS TWIN...BUT AGAIN IT DOES RESEMBLE THE MAUER N WERTZ 4711 TO MY NOSE...NOT IDENTICAL AS THE COLONIA HERE HAS OBVIOUSLY MORE COMPLEXITY..I ALSO SENSE A SLIGHT MINTYNESS AS WELL...ANYWAY I GIVE IT 8.8/1O....IMHO

Robwiz

I bought this because I was looking for a scent similar to Acqua di Parma Colonia with better longevity (and a lower price if I'm being honest). The 'reminds me of' for ADPC pointed me to this fragrance and I bought it blind in a sale.

I'm not disappointed. It doesn't have the fierce orange opening of ADPC and it drys down to something altogether more modern and contemporary. It's trendily aquatic and citrussy and very close in personality to Versace Pour Homme (no bad thing in my book). Therefore, it's probably a better option than ADPC! I will be wearing this in rotation for work but it's a sophisticated fragrance that's also perfect for evening wear. A definite recommendation from me.

ma_ma

I was looking for a classy clean, soapy, fresh, masculine and sexy scent... this is it. Perfect for office.

If you only have around $10 to spend and need a freshie i would reccomend this. Clean citrus. Lasts a decent amount of time.

T_ironhide46

I agree with the poster below me, about this being soapy and citrusy. Safe for work and day time. Could be someone's signature if they really liked it. I'll probably use it in the spring or early fall where I live. Not bad though, especially for $12 at TJ Maxx.

Just got it and just put it on. Someone said it smelled very "soapy citrus" and I see what they mean but I would say "soapy lime zest". Quite fresh. Quite bright. Quite heavy at first. I will edit this when I get a chance and describe the drydown. I cannot imagine there will be an amber/tonka drydown, but I am looking forward to it if there is.

I am not familiar with any of the other Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale fragrances but a family member now owns a bottle of this Acqua Essenziale Colonia so this is my first impression of this new fragrance.. Acqua Essenziale Colonia opens up very bright, fresh, & invigorating! Lots of citrusy bergamot, & some aquatic notes make the opening.. In the heart some lavender becomes detectable along with some sage, & a hint of orange blossom.. Ambroxan in the base along with a touch of tonka add a slight sweetness to the dry down while vetiver adds masculinity.. Acqua Essenziale Colonia is a very nice spring/summer fragrance especially for the price.. This fragrance definitely does not smell like something that can be had for so cheap, matter of fact it reminds me of something from the niche house of Acqua di Parma.. Acqua Essenziale Colonia smells very Italian, the way a real "Colonia" should smell, I definitely recommend this fragrance, great quality for a very affordable price..

Im not normally a fan of aquatics but this seems like its a different take on it. Its got class and it really seems like something you would wear to the beach. Id say its more of a herbal citrus based scent. I get a lot of sage in the beginning and it gets more watery the longer it sits. This is a hell of a deal at 10 dollars for a 3.4 oz at Marshalls. It smells way more expensive than it is and its the first cheapy ive owned where i honestly cant tell that i bought it on the discount shelves

iwhiffwaft

This stuff is the real deal. I've been wearing it pretty much every day now, so I can give more detail about its actual scent. The real interesting thing is that I'm wearing this over Acqua Di Parma, and my other summer staple's. It's that good. So, theres's some similarities here between this and ADP. I have Capucci and Eau Sauvage as well and have compared. There's something in Capucci that is kind of grassy and it stays.

There's a hint of that grassy citrus that is reminiscent of Capucci in the very beginning of Acqua Essenziale. It's only in the top notes here though and is gone almost as soon as you smell it. I think that's the intent. It's not trying to be as dated smelling as something like Capucci that has that grassy citrus the entire length of the fragrance. AE just wants you to harken back to that style, so that note doesn't particularly last. Also, its very citrusy at the top.

It's not as orange heavy as ADP, so it doesn't really smell like ADP. It just has its own citrus thing going. It's light and fresh, just doesn't smell like orange. I can't really pick out the citrus notes as they are blended exquisitely with the soapy dryer sheet type smell.

ADP citrus blends into a soft soapy flowery base. This one's citrus blends into a different more modern soapy smell.

So you can really tell this one has the same floor plans as say ADP, and other great colonia's. A touch of italian grass in the front, (reminiscent of cappuci and other great colonia's of yester year), but then that note fades quickly into the more present citrus and soap.

More modern soap and citrus I'd say. It still has class and is every bit as awesome as its colonia predecessor's. If you want a modern colonia, this is your best bet.

I'm not intimately familiar with the Acqua Essenziale line by Salvatore Ferragamo, but bought Colonia on a whim as a cheap blind buy, at $13 for 100ml at Marshalls, since it seemed to have a favorable reception in the community.

I'm somewhat disappointed with this take on the "eau de cologne" scent. It has the cologne smell but involves some very sour, rotten, musky undertones that take away from freshness and add a lot of bitterness.

Not a noteworthy performer, and try at your own (limited) risk, this one is a pass for me.

Very nice. Especially for the price ($9.99 at Marshalls). Nice and fresh with some citrus...

Shoota#1

The initial spay was strong but over time this cologne developed to be very nice! Clean and fresh with a hint of spice. Great buy at Marshall.

ChrisSmellsGood

So i blind bought a 3.4 oz bottle of this at Marshalls tonight for $12.99 like everyone else is doing. I guess they must have over produced it or something and theres overstock?

Anyway....i went to my car, sprayed it on my arm. Smelled for a few min. Walked back in and bought another bottle.
This. Is. So. Good!!!! Omg, just buy it.

And the bottle is great quality. I love the strong clicking metal cap.

This is my first, and certainly not the last, fragrance from this house. So impressed!!

Ralphangel

Just recently bought this for the summer as I already have Ferragamo Tuscan Soul which I happen to love and was so pleasently surprised as this is even better. The aromatic and aquatic notes are such that soften the citrus notes while the tonka and abroxan notes adds depth and character leaving you with a well balanced really classy perfume for the summer. Truly love this perfume and it will for sure be my number one for the summer!

C@nn@r

I get a melting pot of Himalaya, ADP essenza, and Sauvage. It definitely has the the classic "colonia" DNA to it. It's fresh, clean, and watery with only a hint of woods at the base. Not complex, not earth breaking, not revolutionary, and not all that good of performance...but I got a 100ml bottle for $10 at Marshall's so why not right! The bottle is cool i guess

rnejad

All I get from this is the water notes, clary sage, and bergamot. It's a nice scent that reminds you of a blend between Creed Himalaya and Acqua di Parma Colonia Assouluta, although it's definitely not the same quality as those two. It's not a bad scent but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it. Some may liken the drydown to a urinal cake. It's actually not that bad. If one is in search of a cheap barbershop scent that smells fresh and invigorating, this is it. Just be warned, you'll want to keep an atomizer of this on you as it evaporates quickly.

Its a gem! I blind bought despite not having a real love for Ferragamo fragrances in the past... And im not a bit disappointed. This is a very decent performing citrus/aquatic. Nice fresh scent. Very pleasing. A no brainer at the price I got it for at Marshalls. 1.7 oz for $10 .... A steal.

groover

Nice fragrance, reminds me a lot of
Acqua di parma Essenza di colonia, this
one is a bit lighter and doesnt contain
as many notes as di parma, but it is a lot
cheaper too so a good alternative for a great
summer scent.

Gentlemen, this is one of the reasons why I consider Alberto Morillas a magnificent perfumer.

It is not my first experience with him, I already have his Lanvin L'Homme, and now I smelled this along with the Blu version, and both are just exquisite for their price!

For this bottle, it opens with refreshing citrusy water notes, then Ambroxan with a hint of Tonka stays with you.

It says "colonia" on the label but I really doubt that it is a "colonia", I sprayed it almost five hours ago and it is still going strong.

This is just great for a hot spring or summer morning.

Danceswithscent

Sprayed from a 100ml priced at $28.50 from the interwebz. Agree with buysblind's review below, pretty bang on. I will add a few things about some notes. The bergamot is not sparkling or really fresh in the Dior sense. It is more true to how a traditional bergamot note smells, citric in a non descript way, which might be the orange blossom mixing to make it so. The vetiver note is more earth and root in a slightly dirty way, very slightly in the middle notes. It's not smokiness or bitterness, just a smooth earthy vetiver. The lavender is mild, blended very well into the composition and leads a clean soapy flavor with the clary sage (which is strong in the initial blast). Tonka is barely perceptible, only giving the impression of slight creaminess. The odd thing is I am getting ambroxan in the base, it says amber so I can only assume they mean ambroxan. It is there, but not blaring loudly or begging to be noticed. It makes the balance slightly sweet and a little woody. I have and enjoy the original Ferragamo pour Homme and have tried most of the other scents from Altimo, the F series, some of the Tuscan collection and all the Essenziale collection. This could be placed in the Tuscan series, it is really great juice. The best I've tried from the regular Ferragamo lines by far and for the price a spectacular fragrance. As far as the comparision to ADP Colonia it is similar but more modern to my nose and it also reminds me of Eau Sauvage and leans more toward the citrus aromatic classification. I would go so far as to say, this is one of the better citrus aromatics I have sampled. It is well blended and has decent staying power and longevity. A fantastic deal for a summer scent. It's a buy!

Buysblind

This is a very good scent that's managed to more or less fly under the radar.

Colonia starts out with a sharp kick of fresh bergamot over a clean, soapy heart of clary sage. Think of citrus notes and lavender, but with an added dimension of sweetness. Everything is encompassed in an aquatic sheen, radiating a translucent, aqueous aura, taking this beyond your standard herbal-aromatic. In fact, Colonia is a great marriage of the two concepts--aquatic and aromatic--and should satisfy fans of both styles. What results is a sophisticated Italian-style citrus fragrance for men; sharp in the beginning, though smooth and comfortable thereon; traditional yet completely modern. The foundation of tonka, vetiver, and ambroxan makes for a solid and somewhat sweet woody base. While this particular style of base has become rather ubiquitous, it's very well done here and makes for a seamless conclusion. The Acqua Essenziale family is surprisingly good. With its well-crafted structure and above average performance, Colonia is perhaps the best of all, providing a crisp and elegant option to the lineup. Recommended as a blind buy for fans of aquatics and Italian citrus colognes, and those searching for a versatile warm weather fragrance. Thumbs up!

Gordoso55

Nice clean fresh scent. Opening is a bit strong but dries down to a pleasing bergamot

simon.edwards

This stuff is delicious. I wasn't a fan of the original, but this is a fresh blast, with an intriguing dry-down that keeps interest. Longevity and projection are both acceptable (moderate), and this is going on my list for a Spring purchase. Not usually a fan of acquatic scents, so it MUST be good. :)

Have a great day!

wongkar

received my decant today,

and wow !

pretty potent juice from Mr.Morillas !
it is not linear at all.

opened up with slightly soapy vibe (it reminds me of some soap) but only for the first 3-5 mins.

and after 10 mins or so, here comes the magic !
it changes into something fresh, refreshing, calming, and it projects !

i like the original acqua essenziale, but i like this even more.

great stuff !

Scent : 8 out of 10 (lovely drydown)
Longevity : 8 out of 10 (5-6 hours on skin)
Silage : nice scent trail in the first hour.

Definitely a Buy !

I love this as a cheaper alternative to ADP Colonia, to me is smells so similar. Great job by Salvatore Ferragamo on this one. I find his stuff to be some of the better designer frags.

alabangcute

Oh so that's why I like it. Alberto Morillas formulated it just like his signature scents that have become classics like BVLGARI BLV pour homme. I sampled this on my wrist and liked it a lot more than the original Essenziale. Go for it perfume collectors (like me)! It's unique.

Smells like a refined, chic Italian barbershop!

This is easily one of my best finds in the last 12 months or so. Italian fragrances in general are a favorite of mine and this is one of the very best I've found. Dry yet smooth, slightly crisp and metallic but not sharp or cold. It definitely has a barbershop vibe and I love that about it! Antonpan's review is bang-on.

What I get out of this is some citruses, lavender, a very smooth vetiver background and maybe a tiny aquatic vibe (but you'd never in a million years mistake this for an aquatic), florals and ambroxan. Tonka adds a slight sweetness. The result is very masculine.

Performance is good and this does not smell cheap. I can see why some might find a slight resemblance with Himalaya, but this is far superior IMO. Also similar to ADP Colonia but I prefer this one, and it lasts longer.

Ferragamo has several impressive fragrances but this one may have impressed me the most. Definite try if you like this genre.

edge42

How strong is the vetiver in this one? It's on my radar to buy but I'm not a big vetiver fan, only as a slight background note.

49424

OK, my verdict is that this was not a good blind buy. Have tried mixing it with other fragrances to justify spending $43, but no, this is not a keeper.

49424

First impression: Clean, floral notes remind me of a bathroom air freshener. Lovely bottle, but so cloyingly sweet that my initial sensation is one of repulsion.

Will give it time as I just got it. May mix well with something else?

Jassar

Smells like a floral women's perfume. Makes me sneeze. Infusion d'Iris is correct as it is very similar. Scrubber. It is a persistent bastard though as it took 3 scrubbings to get it off.

Morticah

Not a big fan of Acqua colognes, BUT I came across a sample of Acqua Essenziale Colonia and gave it a try.

My first thought was hey this is not bad, I may have found the 1st Acqua cologne I have ever liked. Tried again a few more times and hey this stuff is good, worth keeping.

It is not like the zillions of other acqua colognes I have tried and trashed. Starts out a light acqua scent that quickly fades into a high quality masterpiece. Has a long longevity but stays close to the skin. Pretty unique and I find myself wanting to try it again and again. So if you are not a big fan of acqua colognes this might an exception!

Elmagnifico

The opening is very fresh to the extent that a guest at my house thought that the smell coming from the shower, which is true (soapy clean top).
but the dry down is something different in a complementing way.
Very suitable for hot and warm weather.
The longevity on this one is good (about 6 hours or more) and the sillage is noticeable but not "in your face" kind, maybe 7 out of 10.

Comparing this to the BLU version it is lighter and less woody.

Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia is SHEER SOPHISTICATION. So I went to House of Fraser, London this week to buy certain cologne, and was looking for my next buy from Ferragamo house having Acqua Essenziale Blu in my mind, sales assistant asked to try Acqua Essenziale line's newest "Colonia" and I was like there you go, another flanker. And it smelled somewhat like Acqua di Parma's colonia and ADG Profumo, did not smell anything special to me, so I was like meh.. so we quickly moved on trying AE and AE Blu, my girlfriend liked blu. I also asked sales assistant who normally helps me for opinion, and she said Blu is her absolute favourite of in Ferragamo house. So I should pick ladies choice right?

Magic happened when I came home, dry down of Acqua Essenziale Colonia smelled the best aquatic smell ever, without any twist, very classic, but quality of the juice is just beyond amazing, it was so elegant from beginning till end, it just proves again "simplicity is sophistication" very stylish juice, I must say both AE and AE Blu is nice too, AE Blu I find kinda strong and has cool water vibe that I dont like, but I like how sweetness is added to aquatic, AE is much fresher, definitely worth its name. BUT ONLY ACQUA ESSENZIALE IS TRUE MASTERPIECE, A FLAWLESS SCENT FOR A CLASSY GENTLEMAN. Bravo Segnor Morillas, you did it once again.

antonpan

The version Colonia has nothing common with the regular Acqua Essenziale. Moreover, it is done in the absolutely another direction. While Acqua Essenziale is a modern herbal aquatic in the style of Bleu de Chanel, Acqua Essenziale Colonia is a pure classic. A classical italian cologne with bergamot, clary sage, vetiver. Masculine, fresh, conventional. Soapy in the dry down, with a good longevity.

nonsisa

Incredibly fresh and of course aquatic.

Acqua Essenziale Colonia finds the right balance between the flowery and watery notes. The tonka and ambroxan notes are there but rather functioning in the background.

Well done Morillas, chapeau!

You will most likely be praised wearing this scent as it flatters a lot.

Only downside for me is that it is not addictive enough.

Recommendation worthy for sure.

lovetribe

incredible soapy fresh scent. scent 9/10 but low performance . a scent that not disturb. a mix between mugler cologne and prada infusion d'homme not more citrus.sillage 5/10
