Canali is rewriting its blueprint for sustainable fashion

The fashion industry has a sizeable impact on the environment. Creating clothes isn't the most sustainable business. One: because it takes a lot of water to produce. And two: the Columbia Climate School reported that the industry is responsible for 10 per cent of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions. Multiple new brands are trying to be better, but there's still a lot of creation and consumption out there. That's why Canali is one of the labels setting a new blueprint making better.

Founded in 1934 Canali has long been one of the world's most respected tailoring houses. And for Canali, respect and responsibility for the environment have been a key commitment for almost 90 years. The company has made sure that it creates clothes that are made from locally sourced materials, uses less water during production than other brands and pushes to only make what's absolutely necessary.

Now it's pushing its sustainability initiative further, with the launch of caRE. “This word has a special significance for us because it unites the first two letters of our name – Canali – with RE, a simple but tenacious syllable that recurs in our values and in our present and future commitments”, said Stefano Canali, President and CEO of Canali Group. The project will encompass every sustainable action made by the brand. Going forward most of Canali's clothing will be made using only raw materials (organic and clean), which will extend the longevity of the garment, in turn decreasing its total impact on the planet. Everything will be made in Italy.

Meanwhile, the Autumn/Winter 2023 collection was heavy on clothing made using recycled materials, which is something the brand will continue to do. Stefano Canali is a founding member of Retex.Green, a business launched by Sistema Moda Italia and Fondazione del Tessile Italiano for the management, recovery and recycling of post-consumer waste from the textile, clothing, footwear and leather goods sector.

What's more, Canali is launching a REpair and REstore service in every store. This will enable customers to take in their clothes, restore them and expand their life cycle – and it also means you save on spending.
