You've been sleeping on Dove Cameron and Damiano David, menswear's most unsung pairing

In the age of couples' dressing, it's time to give the high pop couple their flowers

Damiano David is no stranger to a fashion moment. Ever since winning the Eurovision song contest in 2021 (when he was falsely accused of doing a bump on live TV while wearing Etro, naturally) the Måneskin lead singer has been something of a Catherine wheel on the menswear circuit. Dressed by Alessandro Michele during the creative director’s tenure at Gucci and named as a ‘best dressed man’ by GQ and Mr Porter in 2022 and 2023, respectively – and even honoured with ‘style icon status’ by British Vogue – he’s been given his flowers.

And, following his hard launch with Descendants actor Dove Cameron at the Pre-Grammys gala, it seems the couple are on track to becoming the next unsung menswear duo. Though Cameron is best known for her career as a cookie-cutter Disney star turned dark pop witch, a recent outing at an LA Lakers game saw a softer fit of elevated smart-casual.

And the same can be said for David. When performing, he checks all the rock frontman boxes: leather, tailoring, feathers, sequins, pearls, all the usual Kiss camp kit. Off stage, though, it’s a bit more refined – and surprisingly classic. At the game, he was wearing a simple white tank top (also a favourite of Shawn Mendes, Manu Ríos, Jacob Elordi et al), paired with straight-leg taupe trousers and loafers. It’s ‘50s rock; cleaner than glam, but not so understated as to be considered mid.

“How I dress reflects the kind of person I am because there are more things I don’t like than things I like,” David said in a 2023 interview with The New York Times. “And that’s why my wardrobe is just four colours. That’s exactly how I live my life. I like four to 10 people and four colours: black, white, brown and military green. Nothing else.”

And Cameron’s leaning into a Y2K ‘fit with a motocross jacket. Taking notes from Rosalía, Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian, she paired the hyped outerwear with bootcut jeans and a 2000s-inspired Dior bag.

Even before they went public, they were spotted strolling along Bondi Beach in coordinating looks – David in a TwoJeys black hoodie while Cameron went for a cropped oversized leather jacket, and both of them in matching light-wash jeans.

Now all that’s left to do is sit back and await the pair’s next outing. Keep your eye on them. This sort of match-up doesn’t happen very often.
