Nike's Air Max 1 ‘Malachite is like the original Air Max 1 but… better

After months and months of nothing but shady leaks, the Nike Air Max 1 ‘Malachite’ has been officially revealed. Apparently inspired by the ‘Infrared' (those leaks again) which was the first Air Max 1 ever released, this colourway gives it a refresh that feels slightly cleaner and more muted. And yes, in this age of dialled down menswear, sneakerheads will likely want in on that sort of thing.

Just like the original Air Max 1, this reworked version works on top of a ‘White’ mesh base and is overlaid by ‘Neutral Grey’ suede panels throughout. It's a formula that has been tried and tested for over three decades, and one that just works. But unlike the OG from ‘87, the classic red accents have been replaced with ‘Malachite’ instead. This green extends from the Nike Swoosh to the tongue tag, and it wraps itself all around the mudguard for a heavily-contrasted aesthetic.

Look below, and the clean midsole is infused with Air tech for extra comfort and cushioning. You'll also find a bubble around the heel, nodding to the fact that the AM1 was the first trainer ever to feature an exposed Air unit.

In case you didn't already know, the AM1 just had one of its best years yet. From the ‘Multi-Material’ to the ‘Keep Rippin Stop Slippin 2.0,’ the sneaker game has been blessed with some pretty sick colourways over the past 12 months. And judging by upcoming releases like the ‘Malachite,’ it's clear that this winning streak isn't about to end anytime soon (RIP to your bank account).
