Danny Ings started for West Ham United against Burnley at Turf Moor this afternoon, much to the bemusement of the fans.

West Ham striker Danny Ings has been absolutely dreadful since moving to the London Stadium from Aston Villa in January, and it seemed like an utterly bizarre decision from David Moyes to start him against Burnley in the Premier League today.

The 31-year-old has scored a measly three goals for the Hammers since moving to East London 10 months ago (Transfermarkt), and we are apparently keen to sell him in January.

Ings has shown absolutely no passion, desire or work-rate since moving to West Ham, so it’s not just his lack of goals that has been a huge problem.

The striker does not suit our system or playing style one little bit, so it really was baffling when Moyes started him against the Clarets.

He has no business being anywhere near the first-team squad in my opinion, let alone the starting XI.

The experienced forward is just not the right fit for us. However, Ings is obviously a good finisher, and has proved that throughout his entire career – something that Dowie noticed prior to the match…

Danny Ings poor again for West Ham against Burnley

Ings was truly terrible today – just like we all predicted when we saw his name on the team-sheet before the game.

However, Dowie – who was on the co-comms today – spotted something impressive about the 31-year-old. Unfortunately for us though, it was BEFORE the game had started:

“I was watching him before the game in the warmup and he was finishing exceptionally well.”

Sums it up for us really doesn’t it. It’s all well and good finishing well during the warmup, but the game is about so much more than that. Ings is completely redundant in modern day football. When he’s in the team, it feels like we’re playing with 10 men.

It’s utterly ridiculous that Moyes started him today, if we can all see that he’s painfully ill-suited to the Scot’s system, then why can’t he?

Ings was substituted off and replaced by teenager Divin Mubama after 62 minutes. I can honestly say, I don’t want to see him in a West Ham shirt ever again after his performance today.
