Inscription.
The Violata Pax (Wounded Peace) Dove was created in 2006 by artist Fred NALL Hollis, a native son of Alabama.
The Dove was sculpted in white bronze and came to life in a foundry in Pietrasanta, Italy. It was generously gifted to Troy University by the artist.
The Dove was commissioned by Pope Benedict XVI as part of an exhibit entitled the Sins of Humanity. This show accompanied the reopening and renovation of Saint Francis of Assisi Cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Dove represents the sin of war and is one of the fifty-three sins showcased at the opening.
The artist Nall requested his beloved Dove be placed in the shadow of the Rosa Parks Museum to remind us of Mrs. Parks' courageous act on December 1, 1955, and how she defied the sin of racism.
Our hope is that everyone who looks upon this Dove will be reminded of what it represents and feel inspired.

Erected 2022 by Troy University.
