Pedro Pascal took a moment at the 2023 Emmy Awards to jokingly explain how he injured his arm.
Since the awards season kicked off earlier this month, The Last of Us actor has noticeably been walking the red carpets in an arm sling that matches his looks, leading to fans on social media wondering what happened.
Before announcing the nominees for supporting actor in a drama series at the awards show Monday night, Pascal quipped that he would “like to take just a second and make this about me.”

“A lot of people have been asking about my arm,” The Mandalorian star explained. “It’s actually my shoulder, and I think tonight is a perfect time to tell everyone that Kieran Culkin beat the shit out of me.”
The camera quickly cut to the Succession star, who reacted with a deadpan expression before finally laughing along with Pascal and the audience.
The joke circles back around to a talked-about moment from the 2024 Golden Globes. When the Succession star won the award for best actor in a TV drama at the Jan. 7 awards show — beating others in the category like Pascal — Culkin told his fellow actor that he can “suck it.”
“This is a nice moment for me,” Culkin said when he took the stage. “Thanks to Succession, I have been [in this room] a couple of times. It’s nice but I accepted I was never going to be on the stage. So this is a nice moment. Suck it, Pedro! Sorry. Mine!”
Pascal previously told concerned reporters at the Globes that he hurt his shoulder after he simply “fell,” but didn’t give any additional details about the incident.
The Game of Thrones alum was also nominated for best actor in a drama series at the 2023 Emmys for The Last of Us, alongside Jeff Bridges (The Old Man), Brian Cox (Succession), Culkin (Succession), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) and Jeremy Strong (Succession). Culkin ultimately took home the award.
The 75th annual Emmy Awards, hosted by Anthony Anderson, were held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, Jan. 15. The full winners list can be found here.
