After being pushed back months on end, production seems well and truly underway on George Miller‘s “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which is shooting in Namibia after abnormal weather conditions pushed Miller and co. away from Australia. While it’s been confirmed for quite some time that Tom Hardy would be taking over the iconic, titular role from Mel Gibson, with Charlize Theron co-starring as the mysterious Furiosa, a press release (via Collider) has unveiled the first synopsis for the film while confirming the entire cast (which includes a few more names), as well their kinda bonkers character names. Read on:

According to Miller, “Mad Max is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa. This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.”

“Mad Max: Fury Road” also stars Nicholas Hoult (“X-Men: First Class”) as Nux; Hugh Keays-Byrne (“Mad Max,” “Sleeping Beauty”) as Immortan Joe; and Nathan Jones (“Conan the Barbarian”) as Rictus Erectus. Collectively known as The Wives, Zoe Kravitz (“X-Men: First Class”) plays Toast, Riley Keough (“Magic Mike”) is Capable, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (“Transformers: Dark of the Moon”) is Splendid. They are joined by supermodel Abbey Lee Kershaw as The Dag and Courtney Eaton as Fragile, both of whom are making their big screen debuts. Also featured in the movie are Josh Helman as Slit, Jennifer Hagan as Miss Giddy, and singer/songwriter/performer iOTA as Coma-Doof Warrior.

Among the new additions is supermodel Megan Gale who was cast as Miller’s Wonder Woman in the aborted “Justice League” film in 2007. No word on what role she’ll precisely take but if it’s anything like any of the other characters in the press release, you’re bound to cringe at her name. Oddly, there’s no mention of Adelaide Clemens though she was photographed with the fellow wives a few weeks back.

It still remains to be seen if rumors of a back-to-back shoot that includes a sequel with Theron’s Furiosa character as the protagonist will come to fruition, but our guess is that the studio will wait to see how this one performs first. But Miller will be ready, already noting that he hopes the film will kick start a new trilogy with a script for the second already completed. No release date has been set for the ‘Fury Road’ just yet, but in this post-‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Dark Knight’ world, Warner Bros. would surely love a potential franchise starting blockbuster ASAP.
