Los Angeles Metro Rail

The Los Angeles Metro Rail is made up of 6 lines and 93 stations. Although it doesn't cover the entire city, its tracks are 169 kilometres long and run from north to south and from east to west.

While the metro isn't always a good option to visit the main tourist attractions, it is a useful and quick way to make long-distance journeys. 

Lines

The Los Angeles metro is made up of 6 lines, although it's expected to be extended in the next few years.

  • Blue line: 7th Street/Metro Center to Downtown Long Beach (North to South).
  • Expo Line: 7th Street/Metro Center to Santa Monica (East to West).
  • Gold line: APU/Citrus College to Atlantic (North to South).
  • Green line: Redondo Beach to Norwalk (West to East).
  • Purple line: Wilshire/Western to Union Station (West to East).
  • Red line: North Hollywood - Union Station (North to South).

Operating Times

The Los Angeles Metro Rail runs approximately from 4:30 am to 1:30 am, although the schedule varies depending on the line and day of the week. The frequency of trains is approximately between 5 and 10 minutes depending on the time.

Prices

To use the metro you need to buy a TAP card, which costs around 1 to 2 dollars (depending on where you buy it), and which can be topped up as many times as you want. You can only buy one card per person.
