Erika de Casier began making music right after her high school years. A decade on, the Copenhagen-based musician has fashioned a path from sweet, self-produced R&B to remixing Dua Lipa, releasing her 2019 album Essentials and signing with renowned independent record label 4AD.  Along the way, she’s learned to produce songs from scratch, with the help of an occasional YouTube tutorial. “I can make music anywhere, so long as I have my computer and a pair of headphones,” says de Casier. She creates music that trills with different emotions—those of the heart, and those that come with the nerve-racking transition from making bedroom beats to performing to large crowds. As she sings in one 2020 release, her first with 4AD: “No butterflies, no nothing.”
