Antonio Rubino was one of Italy's most principal comic artists and illustrators. After earning a degree in law, Antonio Rubino turned towards a career in journalism and illustrating. His first job was illustrating the book 'L'Albatros' by Alberto Colantuoni, the grandfather of Tiberio Colantuoni. In the following years, he drew for magazines like Il Secolo XIX, Risorgimento Grafico, Il Giornalino della Domenica and La Lettura. From 1908, he worked for the magazine Corriere dei Piccoli, where he created numerous comics up until 1927.
Among his creations for the magazine are 'Quadratino e Nonna Geometria', 'Pino e Pina', 'Viperetta', 'Nicoletta', 'Italino e Kartoffel Otto', 'Rosaspino e Spinarosa' and 'Lionello e Nerone'. After a short employment with magazine Il Balilla, Rubino became chief-editor of the children's publications of the publisher Mondadori, such as the Disney magazines Topolino and Paperino. He left Mondadori in 1940 and went to work in the animation field. In 1949, he launched the magazine Il Gazzettone. In 1955, he returned to Corriere del Piccolo, where his last creations were published.
