FORMER Premier League football manager Iain Dowie has been banned from driving for six months after what magistrates deemed to be 'repeat offending'.

Dowie, of Withnell Fold, Lancashire, was caught doing 58mph in a temporary 50mph zone on April 24 last year - while in Sunderland - and was dealt with at Preston Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (February 9).

The three points added to his licence led to an 'obligatory' enforcement of a ban due to 'repeat offending'.

The 57-year-old former international striker, who played for Southampton, West Ham and Crystal Palace before managing Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic, joined Alexander Grace Law in Hapton, near Burnley, as the firm's new business director in December 2020.

His first job in football management came at Oldham Athletic between 2002 and 2003.
He was driving a grey Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 AMG Line SUV at the time of his last offence, but won't be able to get back behind the wheel of his £42,000 hybrid until August.

He has also been fined £491 and a collection order has been made. Dowie's guilty plea was taken into account when sentencing.

The Lancashire Telegraph made several attempts to speak to Dowie but he was unavailable for comment.
