My mom rented a DREAMCAST back when that was a thing you could do. Came with Aerowings, Virtua Fighter 3TB, and Sonic Adventure. I was OBSESSED with Sonic Adventure, but we didn't have a memory card. I was 12 years old on summer break, so I'd keep replaying the game again and again and again until eventually, I could get to Super Sonic in a single sitting. The only reason I ever got on the Internet and engaged in message board culture was so I could actually talk about Sonic Adventure with someone, and I haven't stopped since.
Eventually, we'd own the console and a memory card. I'd eat up the phone line playing Worms World Party. I'd pour over magazines and replay demo discs. I sadly fucked up and locked myself out of PSO's online functionality, so I solo'd the entire thing (don't worry, I'd eventually skip college classes to play blue burst on a laptop). Jet Set Radio opened my eyes to how games could look and sound and act and feel.
I love that console. It's a formative part of my life and cringe as it may be, I consider it a core part of my identity. I have three consoles in my house and the entire library on my Steam Deck. If there ever is a Dreamcast Mini, I'm there day one.
And yeah, you better believe I have the Christmas ornament. Hell, my desktop wallpaper is the animated bios screen background.
