I have a ton of nostalgia for Dreamcast, it was the last video game console I received as a Christmas present. Still play it every so often and the graphics have aged like fine wine.

The VMU is still one of my favourite gaming peripherals ever. The Chao garden was pretty mind blowing back when it came out.

The Dreamcast was a truly magical experience at the time. I bought so many games for that thing, and a bunch of Japanese imports too.

PSO was the peak though definitely. Still have that entire soundtrack stuck in my head.

My first console that I ever bought with my own money, and grabbed at launch. It will always hold a special place in my heart.

Such a great console. Really did not deserve to die; unbelievable line-up of games in such a short time. People were using PS2 more as a DVD player at that time and it was still destroying the DC.

My favorite console of all time.

I actually bought the ROG Ally primarily so I could turn it into a handheld Dreamcast emulator. I want to get all of my old Dreamcast Magazine demo discs and games running on it, but so far I've been too lazy to figure out how to set it all up and research what the best DC emulator actually is.

Loved my DC. One of the greatest launch games in history with SC and NFL/NBA 2K were instrumental in pushing the sports genre forward in a positive direction.

I look at the modern day lineup of system exclusives and I'm shocked at just how many classics the DC had in such a short timeframe

25 years... nearly half my lifetime. 😭

Still have my Japanese launch unit. Also kept the weird businessman box too (not pictured because it's in storage).

Okay, to get the cost down... Dreamcast Mini, but all it has is Illbleed. I think this is a good compromise.

Still have my Dreamcast and didn't sell it like PS3, PS4, Xbox Original and X360.
Sometimes play Virtua Tennis and really love it. Don't know what magic did they use to develop this game, but it looks and sound amazing even after more than 2 decades and has a unique feeling that I didn't find in any other sports game, even next Virtua Tennis games.

Thanks to everyone sharing their Dreamcast memories.

It's been a very wholesome thread! Such love for the console.

I think I was in 7th grade when the Dreamcast came out. I somehow convinced my parents to get me one at launch, and I loved the console so much. I have very fond memories of SoulCalibur, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Crazy Taxi, Powerstone, PSO, NFL2k1... just hit after hit after hit.

As so many others have said, it's truly a shame the console flopped. It was ahead of its time with the VMU and online play.

My mom rented a DREAMCAST back when that was a thing you could do. Came with Aerowings, Virtua Fighter 3TB, and Sonic Adventure. I was OBSESSED with Sonic Adventure, but we didn't have a memory card. I was 12 years old on summer break, so I'd keep replaying the game again and again and again until eventually, I could get to Super Sonic in a single sitting. The only reason I ever got on the Internet and engaged in message board culture was so I could actually talk about Sonic Adventure with someone, and I haven't stopped since.

Eventually, we'd own the console and a memory card. I'd eat up the phone line playing Worms World Party. I'd pour over magazines and replay demo discs. I sadly fucked up and locked myself out of PSO's online functionality, so I solo'd the entire thing (don't worry, I'd eventually skip college classes to play blue burst on a laptop). Jet Set Radio opened my eyes to how games could look and sound and act and feel.

I love that console. It's a formative part of my life and cringe as it may be, I consider it a core part of my identity. I have three consoles in my house and the entire library on my Steam Deck. If there ever is a Dreamcast Mini, I'm there day one.

And yeah, you better believe I have the Christmas ornament. Hell, my desktop wallpaper is the animated bios screen background.

The first car accident I was in happened on 9/9/99 on the way to pick up my Dreamcast and FFVIII.

Just the universe getting a couple knocks in before handing me some of my favorite things ever.

Still my favorite console of all time. Would love it if they made a Dreamcast mini with Powerstone 1 &2, ChuChu Rocket, Crazy Taxi, Seaman, Jet Set Radio, Rez, Virtua Tennis, hydro thunder and I can keep going lol. I need to hook up my old Dreamcast…

One day I'm really going to have to pick up those Eldorado Gate games. Gawd it's gonna be expensive, I'm sure.

I remembered when I first played the DC at my cousins house. I was so blown away how good DOA2 looked. Such an awesome little console that truly was ahead of its time.

at the time we got an import Japanese model for our office. I think we had Blue Stinger, Sonic Adventure and Pen Pen Triicelon (sp?) - maybe some others, can't remember.

I do remember being most impressed by Pen Pen though. It was a pretty basic game, but the image quality blew me away. The textures were so high res and even when you went really close past a banner it didn't get blurry or pixellated. It was like magic to me at the time.

Love the console- though I got it on the EU launch in October the following year. I have a thread im updating semi regularly with my new purchases, and impressions of games as im going through the library here: https://www.resetera.com/threads/join-my-dreamcast-experience.674002/ if anyone wants to read more memories from folks about the console or about any of the games im going through.

There's soooo many good titles in there that I missed when I first owned the console, and soooo many that were reviewed super poorly, but remembered now with fondness. Stuff like Dynamite Cop getting 4 or 5/10's back in the day - but looking at it today, yes its short but its brilliant. At the time everything needed to be super long and story based I think. That was just the age it was released in.

Yet another reason the DC was so far ahead of its time :(

This thread inspired me to hook up my DC last night for the first time in a few months, and I got sucked into playing Tech Romancer for a few hours.

Thanks everyone! 😂

One of my favorite consoles of all time. Incredible lineup of games. Shame it died so soon. Mine is actually hooked up to my TV even now and I still pop in Crazy Taxi pretty frequently.

Love Ryuichi Sakamoto's legendary opening music.

I have very fond memories of playing Crazy Taxi & House of the Dead when I was younger.

I saw where they announced the wireless controller but I have not picked one up yet. How has it been for you? Do you feel like it has any lag?

Haven't felt anything noticable. Triggers could have used a little bit more resistance and overall it could have been a tad heavier, but I really like the feel of it. Retro fighters certainly has improved their stuff since the GC wireless one. Even worked from another room after connecting the Dreamcast to my PC and streaming my PC to Xbox via Moonlight.

I loved the variety of that generation of consoles. Each brought something interesting to the table.
