So here I am listening to the battle themes from the Princess Maker series, because that's what my life has turned into I guess, when YouTube decides that I seem like I'd be a big fan of FM Towns soundtracks and starts throwing them at me. And at a certain point, I have to step back and think about the name "FM Towns". Because if I wasn't enough of a weirdo to know what an FM Towns was and you walked up to me and told me that name is not helping me. It's even worse when you start looking at its successors, like the FM Towns Marty or, god help us, the FM Towns Car Marty.
Let's break this down. My friend comes up to me and says that they're bought an FM Towns Marty. FM presumably refers to radio waves. That's simple enough to guess even if it's completely wrong. Towns is where it gets tricky. I don't know why I'd purchase Towns. I guess it could be a citybuilding simulator like SimTown, but I feel the grammar would be different for that. I think it sounds more like something that's supposed to be practical for urban life, like a Honda Civic. Then you've got Marty. Marty's not a thing you buy, that's a person. If I'm buying Marty something has gone horribly wrong. Maybe it's an expression. "I just bought a marty" means something like "I need to go see a man about a horse".
For anyone who might be wondering what the hell I'm talking about, this is the FM Towns:
This is the FM Towns Marty, which is backwards compatible with FM Towns games:
Then here's the FM Towns Car Marty, which is an FM Towns Marty but you can put it in your car:
I have no follow up to this early morning observation, but thank you for your time nonetheless.
