Trudy W The four 90 minute films that comprise Vera Season 12 were of the same high quality as the prior eleven. Vera is quite a bit more than a "detective show," though it is that. The cinematography plays its own starring role in the series as do interactions of people from all walks of life. It's quite different from Colombo in that sense. I love that it avoids saccharine moments by leaving outcomes to the viewers imagination. I just watched an episode where a mother was reunited with her daughter she'd given up for adoption. All you saw was the mother say hello to the daughter. And then the camera cut away, avoiding the Lifetime movie hug and tears. Vera is quite revealing of the depth of human emotion without being a tearjerker. And a small area like that is probably one of the only places where police could actually spend the time solving murders. But of course whether they do or not is something else entirely. What we get to see is what it would be like if they actually did. I read several reviews by men saying it was "totally unrealistic" haha to have a woman Vera's age, and driving her car, running the department. Then I could make comparisons with Colombo or Harrison Ford (or a police dept rehiring Monk) but it's completely unnecessary. Why? Because THIS IS NOT REAL LIFE. It's fiction. And I can't really imagine that someone who thinks that would even be watching Vera. So why are you reviewing it. I would add, Vera is an incredible series, but one geared toward those with high levels of Emotional Intelligence. It's a thinking show but also a Feelins' show. And if that sounds like your thing, you'll love it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review Super Fan F Vera is funny, clever and has a big heart. The cases are riveting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/29/23 Full Review Linda A Cut the flannel....... Vera is awesome! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/18/23 Full Review Jan M I've watched all 11 seasons before this and it is now unwatchable. Very disappointed in Brenda Blethyn. And disappointed in the ridiculous gymnastics they go thru with the plots & characters. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/21/23 Full Review Charli M Fantastic can't wait for the next season just wish there were more episodes. Deems like each series has leaa episodes. I've watched Vera from series 1 and love everything about it. I want more. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/04/23 Full Review David Z Given that the show is aired from 9:30-11:00 p.m. in Milwaukee, my wife never gets past 10:30. However, the thing I love about Vera is that you never find out who the murderer is until the last 5 minutes of the show during which Vera quietly says, "I think you understand why I'm going to have to take you in"! No wrestling to the ground. No shooting. No ridiculous car chases. Just the inevitable charge and resignation. And my wife misses it all! But I love it. Comic as it may be, it's such a refreshing alternative to American detective shows that I celebrate the opportunity to experience something more "real" than American "real". Anita Singh Daily Telegraph (UK) Save for a couple of red herrings, it was all efficiently done. The plot wasn’t wildly thrilling but we watch for the characters. Vera herself is pleasingly old-school and no-nonsense, but she has a heart... Rated: 4/5 Dec 28, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
