Dean Alderucci has a background in technology, law, and policy. He is the director of research at the Center for AI & Patent Analysis at Carnegie Mellon University. There he leads research into new AI techniques and develops AI systems that facilitate legal and regulatory tasks. He has published papers and organized conferences in the AI field, and has taught various AI courses to MBA and engineering students.

He is also a technology lawyer who has practiced in corporations and as outside counsel. He was Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Innovation Division of a global financial services firm, where he was head of technology innovation and intellectual property matters.

He holds a dual PhD in AI and in Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University, masters degrees in computer science, operations research, and mathematics from Columbia University, an LLM in Innovation and Information Law from New York University School of Law, and a JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
