CU, whose name is an acronym for Cancellato Uniform, is a new knitwear clothing line created by the designer Diletta Cancellato.

The new brand debuted within Milan Design Week’s Fuorisalone (off-show event) in April 2022 as an essential, contemporary aesthetic gender-free knitwear collection offering comfortable and versatile pieces to be worn as an everyday uniform by as many people as possible.

After her studies at Politecnico di Milano, a two-year master at Parsons School of Design in New York and the development of the Cancellato’s couture knitwear line, from 2017 on the designer succeeded to create clothes in one size, developed to adapt perfectly to several physicalities, age, gender and physical abilities.

The goal of this new project was to reverse the tendency that the body needs to adapt to standardized sizes by creating clothes that will adapt themselves to the various human body shapes.

Every CU item of clothing is designed to fit different bodies comfortably, those that normally would fit standard sizes from XS to XL. The brand proposes three different sizes that uniquely refer to height, so that every item can fit as many people as possible, from 1.30 m to 1.90 m.

All items are realized with 3D knitting machines. For this, they have no seams and their production reduces waste to the minimum. Production follows the on-demand model, so to optimize and simplify production and distribution processes and to eliminate the problem of what happens to unsold items. The versatility of the clothes facilitates the act of sharing from one person to the other, from one size to another and from one generation to the other, extending their life. Accessories like magnet buttons complete the collection adding special details that can be managed easily by anyone, people with disabilities included.

On the occasion of Fuorisalone 2022, CU also presented its first pop-up store designed according to similar criteria as the collection, like, for instance, non-stop research on accessibility and on the usability of the spaces in daily life.

The CU collection is made with two materials only - a cellulose fiber extracted from wood from sustainable sources, using environmentally friendly processes, and Merino wool.

The collection is available in basic colors only, like brown, blue, grey and raspberry red, according to the season. It is sold via online only at prices ranging between about €100 and €320.
