Amanda Beard, the Gold Medal-winning Olympian swimmer, will publish her memoir in the next several years, according to Simon & Schuster.

The memoir will be called “In the Water They Can’t See You Cry” and will be published in April 2012, before the athlete leaves for the Olympics in London.

The memoir will focus on her life outside of the swimming pool, including her difficulties with eating disorders, drugs, and alcohol, the publisher said.

“I hope that by writing about what I went through,” she said in a release, “my story will help others, especially high school and college-aged women, who may be dealing with some of the same issues.”

Beard took the world by storm in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where as a 14-year-old, she won the Gold medal and two Silver medals. She ranked among the top of all 200 meter breaststrokers in 2003.

In the 2004 Athens Olympics, she also won a Gold medal in the 200-meter breaststroke as well as a silver medal in the 200-meter individual medley.

Beard married photographer Sacha Brown. They welcomed their first child in September 2005, People magazine reported.
