Ewan McGregor’s daughters broke the big news that the actor and his girlfriend Mary Elizabeth Winstead secretly welcomed their first child this week.

McGregor’s oldest child, Clara McGregor, was the first to confirm the birth of the couple’s baby boy, Laurie, on social media on Sunday. The 25-year-old actress shared two photos of herself cradling the newborn on Instagram, writing in the caption, “Welcome to the world little brother congratulations to my Dad & Mary - this is the greatest gift.” Clara’s younger sister, Esther, quickly followed suit, sharing her own photos of the baby in her arms on Instagram, writing, “Met my little brother looking like a pirate. I recommend! Welcome to the family little Laurie.” Before the actor’s daughters shared these photos, Winstead had not publicly revealed her pregnancy or even been photographed while she was expecting.

While this is the actress’s first child, it’s McGregor's fifth. In addition to Clara and Esther, the Halston star also has two other children—20-year-old Jamyan and 10-year-old Anouk—all from his previous relationship with Eve Mavrakis, whom he officially divorced in August 2020 after 22 years of marriage. McGregor and Winstead first met as costars in late 2016 while filming the third season of the TV show Fargo, but both stars were married at the time. However, in May 2017, Winstead and her husband, Riley Stearns, filed for divorce after seven years of marriage. And by that fall, she and McGregor were spotted kissing while walking their dogs in NYC. McGregor filed for his own divorce in January 2018 citing irreconcilable differences, and in November 2019 asked a judge to formally declare him and Mavrakis legally single before the pair finalized their divorce last summer.

In January 2020, Winstead said in an interview with Glamour UK that she was trepidatious to start her life all over again after the end of her first marriage. “I got divorced a couple of years ago, which was a scary, crazy thing for me because I had been with the same person since I was 18 years old, and that was what I knew,” she explained. “I was really starting new as an adult for the first time in my life. For me that was a big turning point, being OK with changing, accepting that change is a good thing and that it’s OK not to know where that change is going to take you.”
