According to a popular mythological story, the name Mount Abu was derived from the name of Arbhuda. It is believed that it used to be known as “Arbudaranya” or “the forest of Arbhuda” in the Puranic age. The legendary story states that a serpent named Arbhuda had saved the life of Nandi, the sacred bull of Lord Shiva. Since then it came to be known as Mount Abu which is a diminutive of Arbudaranya, the original name. Many people come to the Arbhuda Mountains or Mount Abu during Buddha Poornima to celebrate the summer festival and the vibrancy of Rajasthani culture for over three days. It starts with the soulful sounds of a ballad followed by folk dance styles of Gair, Ghoomar and Daph. The evening ends with the Sham-e-Qawwali featuring the best folk singers in the country.

3. Trek to Guru Shikhar

One of the favourite things to do for hitchhikers in Mount Abu is to go on a trek on the highest peak of the Aravalli range, Guru Shikhar. You can go to this place for a memorable experience walking through the rich vegetation-covered paths, surrounded by breathtaking views with a cool breeze. There you can also visit the unique Guru Dattatreya temple. Many Hindu devotees believe that Guru Dattatreya was an incarnation of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, the divine trinity. This peak is called Guru Shikhar after him. It is believed that Guru Dattatreya dignified this peak, his footprints are sanctified in a rock in one of the caves on the Guru Shikhar. After that, you can go on a short hike of almost 300 steps to reach the topmost point.

The Toad Rock, one of the best things to see in Mount Abu, looks like a toad ready to jump into Nakki Lake. This huge rock is made out of many colossal and irregular rocks. One of the best things to do in Mount Abu is to visit these temples and be mesmerised by their beauty. They showcase the phenomenal work of human craftsmanship, built in the 11th-13th century AD. Its elaborate elements of marble stone carvings are truly remarkable. Many people believe that huge pieces of marble stones used to be transported on elephant backs from the Arasoori Hills at Ambaji to Mount Abu to construct these temples. Dilwara Temples are additionally a mainstream Jain journey fascination.
