Castle of Pozzolengo - Pozzolengo

 

Imposing fortified medieval village ( "Pozzolengo Castle ") built around IX - X century, rebuilt in the thirteenth century and renovated in the sixteenth century. The Castle, containing some homes (castrum) rises on Mount Fluno.
It has Keystone plant, with the east and west sides longer and the northern and southern shorter. In the curtain walls, are included several cylindrical towers, especially in west and south sides while in the north side there is a square tower (Mastio), which houses the entrance to the castle. One of cylindrical towers was used from XV century as bell tower. Inside the castle you can admire the remains of the Church of San Lorenzo martyr, protector of the plague, presenting fragments of a medieval fresco of 1300 which covered the apse, depicting Christ with the evangelists Mark and John.
