Municipality of Molochio

We publish the speech by Marco Caruso, mayor of Molochio, in Calabria, where the free hotspots have been activated and in addition to the Municipalities that have joined the WiFi Italia Project.

“The toponym Molochio derives from the Greek word“ molòkion ”which refers to mallows, flowers that accompany fruit trees typical of the Mediterranean scrub, especially olive trees, figs and chestnuts. Its origins date back to the Magna Graecia period. An important moment in the history of the country was the arrival of the Basilian monks from Sicily: in their monastery, in fact, between the tenth and eleventh centuries, several families of Tauriana found refuge from the raids of Islamic pirates. The refugees decided to settle in this center of which they wanted to pass on forever the image of a mallow garden that still accompanies it today. In 1901 the Sanctuary of the Madonna of Lourdes was erected, the first ever in Italy and still the only one in Calabria. To preserve our history and enhance the country that enjoys the beauties of the Aspromonte Natural Park, it is important that our administration guarantees citizens increasingly efficient services; this is why we joined the Wifi Italia project, created by Infratel ”.
