Microsoft will shut down the servers for original Xbox games on April 15.

That makes tonight your last chance to play Halo 2 on Xbox Live. According to Bungie's live tracking system, there are a little over a thousand gamers enjoying a final deathmatch as of this writing. When the game was first released in 2004, nearly 100,000 players took the game online at the same time.

In February, Microsoft said it would stop support for older online games in order to "evolve" the current Xbox Live service. We're still awaiting the details of said evolution.

When we first posted about the impending server shutdown, readers were quick to point out that there are several third-party solutions for taking your old Xbox online. Services like XBConnect and XLink Kai act like a kind of global LAN network for your Xbox.
