Dating back to 1415, when the city was part of the Marquis of Monferrato , the church of Santa Maria Assunta, is the main place of Catholic worship of Chivasso . The facade, with its friezes and figures in earthenware, made from 1450 to 1460 to the craftsmen of Piedmont, has a great artistic interest . The construction of the brick bell tower, which rises to the right of the facade , started in 1457 sacrificing the first of the side chapels. Originally it culminated with a high octagonal spire made of a wooden frame, covered with metal plates, but was destroyed by the French in the siege cannon fire of 1705. At her place, in the second decade of the eighteenth century, was erected the present belfry. Inside, the church is divided into three naves and during the 800 underwent a long renovation of neoclassical on draft of Andrea Cattaneo. in particular interested the apse and the ambulatory, built ex novo, with impressive structures made by columns Palladian style .Some of the original Gothic brick structures, are visible today in the right nave; they have been brought to light in the 30 and 40 of 900, and then re-decorated with frescoes in Neo-Gothic style.
